WIW: another hard week

This week was full of challenges and surprises. It is a madhouse at work when we have a delivery to a client and issues are piling up. One of my kitties disappeared for 3 days and I thought she was hit by a car or something and I will never see her again. (she appeared this morning like nothing happened, naughty girl!) And if this is not enough our 11 year old car needs replacement ASAP now (so here I can say good bye to my NAS and new furniture for the deck this year ). In addition it was gloomy and rainy for the second week in a row- and quite cool until today. How to keep one's spirits up in such conditions? Playing dress up of course! :-)

pic 1 I wanted to wear these red booties and these wide leg trousers so the rest had to play along. I felt like almost neutral outfit except for shoes. The only thing I would change here is the belt: I tried a wide black belt in the evening and liked it much better

Danier leather blazer
Suzy Shier striped blouse
Express Editors trousers
Munro booties

pic 2 This outfit was a debut of this Zara blazer. I decided to return the pink one and keep the blue as it is more fun and a different style for me. I wish it was a bit longer but I hope it was not a complete disaster. I also became a bit adventurous to wear a tomato red bag with this sky blue blazer :-)

Zara gathered shoulder blazer
Paige straight leg jeans (my BF)
JCrew cream oxfords (I am totally in love with those - and my feet too!)
Gap relaxed white shirt
Chromia satchel

pic 3 I usually pick one item I want to wear and build the outfit around it. This time the slouchy and tapered trousers. I decided to tuck in the cross-over shirt for a more streamlined look with the jacket.

Pleione crossover blouse from NAS
Log Tall Sally trousers
Sam Eldeman Petty booties
Danier silver tote
Danier white leather jacket

pic 4 This is my interpretation of blush and tomato red trend for spring: blushing peach and true red for my  version. I could not decide which footwear to wear and in the end decided on those low tweed wedge pumps in grey. I bought these pumps so I have a pair of neutral shoes which go with everything thinking that grey color and this style are quite versatile and will go with almost everything. I was wrong - I hardly reach for those "safe" shoes  and wear my stand out leopard flats, python booties and silver pumps much more often. I guess playing it safe does not play well with my style!

Blush blouse - Ann Taylor
Halogen red skirt
Trotters pumps
Danier satchel

pic 5 Today was a first day of almost normal weather for May day and I decided to celebrate with wearing my white BF jeans for the first time this season. This "orange peel" marled Gap sweater felt like a perfect top for today. I wore it with semi-tuck but here is the un-tucked version as well - which one do you prefer?

KUT BF jeans
Gap marled sweater
Mee Too red patent pumps

Wish me luck tomorrow in car hunting - and happy Mother's day to all!

Oh these are fantastic outfits Sveta. Good news about your kitty too :)

The blue blazer & the bag look so fresh & uplifting - just the thing to be wearing when the week is hard. I love the white  jeans & prefer the semi-tuck but both look great :)

  • Golden replied 9 years ago

    You look amazing in all!

  • LAR101 replied 9 years ago

Lovely as always.  :)  Personal fav is #5.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 9 years ago

Well, playing dress up, sure worked out well for you!  Great week of looks.

So glad kitty returned!  Good luck and hope car hunting offers some fun!

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

Oh Sveta, I wish I were you! I love #5 and prefer semi-tuck. Coincidentally I'm going to wear a version of this tomorrow for an early Mother's day brunch!

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

Gap marled sweater looks great with white BF's. This is how we deal with difficult weeks on YLF!!! Playing dress up! The blue Zara blazer is so fun. I missed buying it. it is no longer available.

  • replied 9 years ago

Swoon! The blue blazer and red bag together, so lovely! And the blush sweater and white jeans! Playing dress-up is a great ways to offset the stuff that life throws at us.

  • Neelie replied 9 years ago

You look great!  #2 and #5 are my favourites.  Good luck with the car replacement!

  • dianne replied 9 years ago

You look good in all these outfits Sveta - as always!!!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Your outfit posts always delight me. I can't pick a favorite. The neutrals with the red booties look sleek and sophisticated in 1. You glow in light blue jacket and the silhouette is fun. In 3, I love the crossover blouse tucked and want to try that with mine.
The blush/red in 4 looks delicious. I like the grey shoes and the way they go with your pewter bag but are a very different texture. And 5 is simple elegance. I like the sweater best semi-tucked for the nonchalance.
Thank goodness kitty is ok and back home. You must have sick at heart with worry on top of everything at work.

  • dustt replied 9 years ago

I feel for you on the crummy weather and car issues Sveta - the weather was bad here - except Thursday!! Playing dress up was your go to game instead - way to go!!

red booties in the first outfit are brilliant!!

red bag with the blue blazer - I never would have thought of it but it works really well. and I'm so sorry they were sold out of those oxfords in my size - I keep checking back!!

I like the grey wedges with the red and peach - it allows those 2 pieces to take center stage and doesn't read safe at all!!

white BF's - with the gap sweater. I much prefer the untucked because I like the detail of the hem slit. It looks lovely with your skin tone!!

good luck with the car search!!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I'm so glad kitty has returned safe and sound! My Jasper was gone once for 1 1/2 days and it was awful, I had half the neighborhood out looking for him!

Sveta, I know I've said this before but it's so true - you wear pants like no other. The fit and drape of your trousers is perfection. And I hear you about the gray shoes - I have a pair and it seems like I am always reaching for something with a fun/funkier edge.

It's so hard for me to pick a favorite because I love them all - but I think my fav here is #4. I have yet to wear my KUT BF's this season - I wish the weather would cooperate for more than a few hours. I love how you've paired yours with the Gap sweater and red pumps. I like both untucked and semi tucked versions, but have a slight preference for it untucked.

It may have been a hard week at work but it was a gorgeous week of outfits! Good luck car shopping!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Wow - love them all. I especially love how you have something unexpected and edgy in every outfit you wear. From the colour of the shoes, to the clutch, or the gathered shoulder of the blazer. Every outfit is special - and I need to study each one closely. You are one super stylish person :)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Sveta, what a week -- in more ways than one! I am so glad kitty came back. But sorry to hear about your car and all the additional expenses. Not to mention the work woes. What a shame.

You look great in all your outfits. The blue jacket is super fun with the tomato bag. Love that the new oxfords came out to play.

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

What a rough week! Sending you hugs. Bright spot #1 (Kitty, the only irreplaceable thing you mentioned, is safe!) Bright spot #2 you have fabulous taste in jackets. I am drooling over the Danier blazer in #1. So maybe missing out on the NAS isn't such a bad thing when you have wonderful pieces to work with already.
In all honesty I am just a Sveta fan I think you can do no wrong. I think of your general look as cool and no-nonsense. However I LOVE #2. (OK Blue is my favorite color but I have real reasons why #2 is my favorite) I like the fact that it's casual and playful yet very much you. It captures spring and yet has a perfect punch of color in the orange/red bag which I think is the PERFECT accessory for this look. Soon I will copy this look but in the mean time I will mark it as a favorite.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Oh, Sveta. What a week. (((HUGS))). SOOO relieved that your kitty found her way back home. Best Mother's Day gift of all. Sorry about the rotten luck with the car.

Despite the adversity, you look beautiful each day. My hat off to you. THRILLED you got the light blue jacket. Wooohoooo. #2 is killer - and #5 is my next best. Hang in there, gorgeous lady. xo

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

Lovely outfits, Sveta! Didn't you try on the baby blue Zara blazer on the meetup? I remember us commenting how nice it looks on you!

  • Marmee replied 9 years ago

Fabulous outfits. You look amazing in all, but #4 and 5 are my favorites! Eta I prefer semi tucked.

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

So glad kitty made it home safe and sound.
#1-fun bit of color with the shoes peeking out from a wide leg trouser.
#2-mixing tomato red and light blue, lovely together.  I also think this blue jacket will work quite well with silver.
#3-the shoes and trousers pair so well together, it's one long line of color, nice!
#4-Another great mix of colors here.
#5-My favorite of the week, because of that peachy color.  I like the top styled both ways.

  • Ledonna N. replied 9 years ago

1&2 are my favorites so glad kitty came back.

  • doubleh replied 9 years ago

Love these looks!  And I think you might be my body-type twin!  Please keep up the WIW posting; if only for me. :) #5 is fave.

    Glad your kitty has returned!

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

Wowza... tall, dark and handsome the new BF is!

Sveta, whatever is going on at work, you look smashing! It must give you a little boost at least when you look at yourself in the mirror ;-)

Munro booties are amazing. I sometime think the fact you have it a bit harder than average woman to find the shoes had made you an excellent curator - you don't give in to temptation of buying anything just because it's the right size. You with for THE shoes.

Outfit 5 is faint-alicious. In a good way.

So were the news about the kitty, in a bad way - but all's well that ends well.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Bummer! But hey, you look good :) Very strong outfits, esp. the odd # pics.

I *am* thinking with the blue Zara - the jacket provides mucho drama. So maybe I'd take away something - the red bag or stand up collar or fancy belt buckle...

What kind of car are you thinking?

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

Despite a week of adversity, you look fabulous. Especially enamored with #1 and #5.

    Sooo glad kitty came home!!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

So fab! My Pleione blouse twin. I have not tried tucking it in--now am inspired to do so!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Sorry to hear last week was a rough one! I'm sooo glad kitty came home, I don't know what I'd do if that happened to me (my cat is an indoor cat and has terrible instincts!). Hopefully with the car you can get something that you like beyond just what's purely functional; I don't know about you, but we spend a lot of time in the car so may as well have it look and feel good just like with clothes :)

How interesting that you liked the black belt with #1! Perhaps because it echoes the top's stripes and lends a longer torso look? I quite like the light belt, it definitely shortens the torso and highlights the jacket hem. I really like #2, the pastel blue with the white and dark denim (hello, new BF!) is superb. Plus I do dig a good shoulder puff ^^ #3 goes from being moody to being graphic with the addition of the jacket, very nice. LOVE #4 and #5, everything about both outfits. Both tucked and untucked works in #5, they just have slightly different vibes; semi-tuck for a little whimsy, untucked for clean elegance. Those white BFs look so good on you!

  • annagybe replied 9 years ago

    I adore #2.

  • JenA replied 9 years ago

Wow what a week. My heart starting racing when I read about your kitty. So glad that she came back. I'm sorry to hear about your car and work. I hope things get better next week.

Your outfits are FAB. I love those maroon shoes peaking out of the grey pants. You look so strong and sophisticated in grey. My personal favs are #2 - I love that blue jacket on you (did you try it on in Boston or was it the yellow one?)  and I love the red color with it and #5 - which is a beautiful, soft color on you.

  • replied 9 years ago

I'm so glad your kitty came home, Sveta!  Naughty girl to worry you.

I like the confident Katherine Hepburn vibe I get from these outfits.  Out of this batch, #1 and #5 are my favorites.

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

So glad Kitty is home safe and sound! Once again, I'm finding inspiration in your outfits. You wear the Danier jacket fabulously and your blue blazer is gorgeous on you. I just got the same Gap marled sweater, in soft yellow. I love how you've styled yours. White ieans are high on my spring/summer shopping list. Good luck with the car hunt!

  • Asingh replied 9 years ago

Great outfits, Sveta! The first one is my fav!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

I am so sorry I was away from my computer for several days and did not get to respond before - this car hunt was pretty exhausting!

We found a car. After driving big American cars for 16 years we decided to try Toyota Corolla for a change. I have signed the papers today and we are taking possession on Saturday (hopefully our old car will last that long). This is an expensive purchase and I am a bit nervous right now - hopefully we did not make a mistake <knock on wood>

As for the kitty - I tried to keep her indoors the first summer but it is almost impossible. She came to us when she was about 6 months old so she was already familiar with the outdoors and the joy of freedom. She is the one who is going out in any weather and sometimes does not come home until morning ( one time during a blizzard! ) However she was never away for 3 days in a row so I was worried. I would like to know where she has been all this time (but I definitely do not want to know what she ate then :-) )

Thank you all so much for your comments, they were so lovely to read after a busy day!
Windchime, white jeans are waiting for you somewhere for sure!
Mona, I have also seen that Zara blazer is not available anymore: I am glad I pounced in time! BTW the yellow one would look striking on you.
Karie, he-he, actually my pants do not fit that well right now as I am still losing weight. The ones in #3 are fine because my mom altered them for me but #1 and #5 are clearly on the bigger side now...
Angie, I almost sent the blue jacket back but in the last minute decided to treat myself to one fun peace this season BTW my first version on outfit #2  (with striped white/silver tee and mini-check trousers) was vetoed by my hubby so I had to change into jeans and white shirt. I think this blazer does requires a simpler background...
Katie, yes - this blue blazer is the one I tried in Toronto! The style and length got Angie's approval in Boston so I went for it :-)
Ornella, you are so right about mirror boost at work :-) and about the shoes
    :-(
Aida, I think black belt looked more streamlined and this appealed to me.
JenA, I did try the yellow jacket in Boston as they did not have blue in my size - just to show Angie the fit.

I am so sorry to hear that you have had such a tough week! I am glad that your kitty is okay, but sad that your car isn't doing too well. Replacing the car though, will give you piece of mind for many years (vs. deck furniture or NAS, as wonderful as NAS is!) - I need to do this for my car soon too!

You make blush pink look so easy to wear, I am super jealous. It always looks weird on me.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

The light blue blazer looks great on you. I also love the last one with the pink sweater. You look terrific in all of them!

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

I hate having to get a new car...what a chore. I'm glad it's over! And I'm so glad your cat returned. What a relief!

All your outfits are fab, Sveta. You are always so polished and attentive to detail. I love the tomato red! I need to add more to my closet. In general, I like all your color combos here. As for the blush top, I prefer it semitucked, I think because the outfit is on the simpler side. The semituck exposes the belt and gives the viewer a focal point for the outfit.
