WIW: modern midi and others

I am going back to posting weekly WIW starting with the remainder of this week.

pic 1-2. Modern Midi?
Another attempt on "modern midi", this time using a midi dress instead of the skirt. I was really happy with this outfit all day...until i took pictures at home - and now I am not sure. It looks kind of shapeless in the pictures. I don't know, maybe in movement it looks better than in the static picture because I really liked it in the mirror? I liked the ink and cranberry red together but I also not sure that this nude clutch looks right here.  I wore the scarf part of the day and then removed it - which do you think better?

That day I worked from home in the morning and then had an endoscopy at the hospital so I needed warmth and comfort in a casual outfit.

Orchid t-neck - Banana Republic
Paige straight leg jeans - my new BF
Naya burgundy booties

pic 4-5. Inspired by Boden's post
I know, it does not really look like beautiful Angie's outfits from that post but I was inspired by it to wear stripes and navy jacket and BF jeans. I tried to semi-tuck the top but found that I don't like that high contrast below the jacket on the back. I usually did not like to tuck in my tops as I felt  that this is not the best proportion for my hips but now when I lost a bit of weight I don't mind the tuck as much as before. I am including the view from the back as well even though I don't think it is too flattering one :-).
This is my navy Gap moto jacket. I had a chance to try Tall as well and decided to go with Regular. I like the body lengthof the Tall one but sleeves were too long and also it was cut wider on the sleeves and underarms. Somehow it did not speak to me at all...

Navy moto jacket - Gap
Striped sweater - Banana Republic
Paige straight leg (BF) jeans
Naya burgundy booties
Danier silver tote

I just realized that the bottom part is exactly the same as on the previous day - something I don't do often :-)

That was it for this week. Sorry to disappoint you with less than stellar outfits here but I though I post them anyway :-)

As usual all comments and suggestions are highly appreciated! Have a great weekend!

Sveta, I purchased that Gap moto after seeing you model yours!  I love the outfit, and stripes work so well with this jacket.  I also have a very similar red dress, and you've inspired me to layer it!  Now, my has a slight dolman sleeve, so I might be a bit more limited, but I love your version.  I suspect it did indeed have more of a sense of movement and shape in real life!

The best mark of great style is beautiful consistency, not an abundance of unique and trendy features!  You're amazing!

Sveta! What are you talking about when you say, "less than stellar"? You look amazing in all of them!

First, I haven't seen anyone pull off a midi as you can! Your combinations are creative, and I especially like how you wear boots with them. You have a height advantage here, and you're using it well!

Secondly: radiant orchid: love the colour and I love it on you! This outfit is lovely. The leopard belt adds an interesting touch.

The Angie Boden copy: my favourite outfit of the bunch! No, you're not Angie but you bring in your own flavour and personality to this look, and you look amazing in it!

So yeah - these awe awesome outfits, girl! Work it! :)

These ARE stellar outfits! I love #4, the Gap moto looks fabulous on you!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Are you kidding these are great outfits!! I LOVE #3 with the purple turtleneck! Everything looks great! I couldn't get that Gap moto to work for me, but it looks so amazing on you :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

First, the new BFs are amazing! Then I need to try the a Gap navy moto. I love it on you...the whole outfit. All these look fab on you. I like the cranberry midi with leopard.

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

You look great, Sveta, as usual! I do enjoy your WIWs.

Regarding outfit 1, I think I like it without the scarf a tad bit better, but I don't know why. I like the outfit, but imo, it doesn't have the sparkle or verve that the other outfits do that you posted. I wonder if the proportions could use tweaking...the top and the skirt are both about the same length rather than in a 2:3 proportion. Do you think that would add a bit of extra punch?

I will say that I am completely enamored and awestruck at your two jeans outfits. Those look absolutely stunning! You look like a supermodel, and I'm not exaggerating!

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

I really like the first outfit, especially in #2! If you're going with the scarf as in #1 I think I'd like to see something equally moody, or perhaps a taupe to echo your skin and the nude clutch. Yes it is a bit voluminous but it all looks good to me. The sweater in #3's color is amazing on you! I really like the look of the rolled jeans over the boots. Totally love #4/5, it looks fab tucked in! You've got great textural interest there too. Looks like a fab week, to me :)

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

I think you need new glasses :) :) These all look fab to me #3 is amazing - that colour is made for you. I like the first outfit without the scarf & I like Aida's suggestion of wearing a moodier one too.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Ahem ... Less than stellar?! You look brilliant in each one of them! Your shoe choices are the best!

And the midi skirt outfit is gorgeously elegant. Doesn't look shapeless to me. Great week Sveta ... And I hope the endoscopy went well.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Each time I look at your WIW photos, I see a women who is beautiful on the inside and out. You have it going on, Special Svetlana. Always a joy to see you  and your killer style - with the heart and humour that goes along with it. xo

You are able to perfectly execute very simple styles, which is inspiration to me - subtle bookending, great proportions - you have an eye for these things that is quite instructive. You are looking quite "svelta" these days, as well...how did you manage that with our cold, cold winter?!

  • Catnip replied 9 years ago

I love all these outfits.  The sweater looks great layered over the dress in #1 and #2, and not in any way shapeless.  I have a slight preference for the outfit without the scarf, although I cannot explain why.

My favorite outfit is #3, a great example of classic simplicity.  You look chic and so slim.  I just bought some Paige straight leg jeans that are much too long on me.  I'm off to the tailor today.  Are yours the "Hidden Hills" model?

Sveta, your outfits are always an inspiration to me.  Thanks for sharing.

  • L'Abeille replied 9 years ago

Sveta,as usual these are all outstanding. But I especially love the midi oufit (even more in the scarf-free version). What you have going on with those proportions, drape and fullness, is what I am aiming for in my mind's eye when I wear a relaxed top over a full skirt...if that is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

It's between 3 & 4 I can't seem to pick a favorite. With #1 I actually prefer it without the scarf. This is interesting because I am usually a more the merrier kind of girl.

  • replied 9 years ago

Hush! 3 and 4 are superb.

  • dustt replied 9 years ago

beautiful as always!! - I too prefer the first outfit without the scarf (so we can at least pretend it's spring in the north!!) - the flow of the skirt with the pleats must be beautiful in motion!!

the orchid t-neck with the leopard belt and burgundy boots is a great work from home and comfy combo!!

and the stripes - oh the stripes!!! - with the moto - so glad you didn't get the tall I think the proportions are so much better on you than a longer jacket would have been.  I am so smitten with you in a moto. On me they look ridiculous.  As an IT with an above average bust there is just too much going on in a moto to be flattering and it seems so incongruous with the rest of my style - just isn't me but I love them on you and the rest of the crew!!

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

They all look great to me! With the midi skirt one, I like it both with the scarf and without, although the scarf and clutch compete a little to me in #1. And the skirt looks so fun and swingy.

  • BethL replied 9 years ago

Sveta, first off, I'm sorry to hear you had to go for an endoscopy. I know what that's like, and it's not much fun. Hope all's well.

Now to the outfits - I'm going to join the choir and echo everyone else: you look great! I'm definitely an admirer of your style. I really like how you changed up the look of your midi dress by topping it with the sweater. I don't think it looks shapeless at all. I like it both with and without the scarf, but I'm not sure about the nude clutch. Radiant orchid is a wonderful color on you, and you wear it well. Such a simple, attractive outfit that plays up your natural grace and elegance. Your moto outfit is probably my favorite - love all the blues along with the stripes. Your metallic tote hits the exact right note with it.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

You are gorgeous every day - even for an endoscopy! I like the skirt without the scarf and love your Boden inspired outfit!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Love the new jeans and the burgundy booties!  Off to look them up.  Not as sure of the midi - it looks really good to me but is not my forte...

  • Kiwichik replied 9 years ago

I like the midi but 3&4 are total knockouts.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you all for your comments!Sorry I did not reply to them before - yesterday was a very busy day.
Beth Ann, from what I have seen you rock this Gap moto! Actually this red dress also has a slight dolman sleeve so here you go :-)
I think I also prefer the dress outfit without  the scarf. I wore scarf with the trench outdoors that day and left it on for a bit indoors but then removed it as it did not feel right.
Gigi, I also was not sure about this sweater length with this dress but then I looked at this Angie's outfit and thought it has pretty much the same proportions wit the longer welted sweater. I guess these proportions are what she calls "very 2014" :-) ? I do think it looked better IRL than in the static picture...
Aida, thanks for the suggestions. I agree that this nude clutch does not really work here. I was rushed in the morning and though it should tie together with the booties but it did not :-) Oh well, I will do better next time!
Angie, thank you for very gracious and very special comment! xo
These "BF" jeans are not new. I have bought them 2 years ago as skinnies and wore them that way. Now when I lost a bit of weight they do not fit like skinnies anymore so I "promoted" them to the BF status :-)
    Catnip, these are "Skyline straight".
dustt, I also have quite broad shoulders but I think having small bust has its advantages :-) but maybe there is a moto for you too? I think some of out IT forum members rock moto jackets with the best of them.
For those who asked: endoscopy went well and results were good so it was worth it. Anyway they knock you out for it these days so you don't really feel a thing so it was not too bad at all. I had my first one in 1996 without any anesthetic  and it was brutal - I still shudder at the memory almost 20 years later :-(
Again, thank you for your comments, I really appreciate your kind words!
