WIW and W(here) I('ve) B(een) on my mini-vacation

I took a couple of days of from my craziness at work and hubby and I spent 4 wonderful days in Prince Edward County. We have never been there before - and what a beautiful and peaceful place it is! The weather was gloomy and rainy for the first two days but even then we had some glorious sunny moments - and the last 2 days were gorgeous!
My orchid trench and red jeans really helped to lift the gloomy weather on the first day - eve sun came out in the end :-) I also found that combat boots are very handy for walking in the high sandy dunes - no sand gets inside. BF jeans are very practical for charging around parks and little villages and nothing can beat the comfort of a relaxed sheath dress with leggings and tall boots while still looking pulled together!
We also were lucky to be there during a 3 day art tour when you can visit local artists' studios, so much fun - especially when it is raining outside!
#4 was taken in Sandbanks provincial park where sand dunes tower to 30 meters above you and go for miles!
#5 was a view from our cottage - isn't it beautiful?
#6 was made in a winery with a stunning view of the lake - amazing place and they make an ice cider - yum!
Oh and ice cream! The best ever ice cream in Bloomfield - home made in small batches from local fruit. This was black raspberry flavor - and note how it matches my trench and the chair I sat in! :) Another cool ice cream flavor was rhubarb ginger - with real ginger inside, fresh and caramelized. But the coolest one was apple pie flavor ice cream - when they take home made vanilla ice cream and dump several real apple pies into it - oh my goodness, it is to die for... Can you tell that ice cream was a highlight of this trip and we drove 20 min to this village for it EVERY DAY!

Thank you for sharing my wonderful mini-vacation with me - it is much more fun if you can share it, right? :-)

Thank you so much for sharing! Now I have a hankering for ice cream;-)
You look incredibly fab, a real testament to a functional wardrobe. The scenery is gorgeous, I would love to visit that part of Canada some day. Glad to hear you got some time away with your husband.

So fun to see you in off work clothes!

These are the most beautiful pictures. I can imagine the dunes are as peaceful as morning on the lake...unending and rippling. But I love that water shot.

I love the color block of outfit 1, so bright cheery and practical too! and that trench looks just as fab with the jeans and ice cream!

looks like you had a great trip...thanks for sharing. I am trying to keep that water shot in mind as I head off to a hectic day at work.

I am on vacation too, first time away since joining YLF and didn't even pack the walking shoes- just more stylish shoes that I can also walk in.

Sveta, you make travel dressing look so easy. Thanks for reminding me that it doesn't have to be all about travel "gear." Hope you had a lovely rest - it was well-deserved, I'm sure! :)

Thanks for sharing your mini-vacation with us. Those are some fabulous photos! Seriously, you need to frame the one of the view from your cottage.
It looks like the jeans, boots, trench and scarf formula worked perfectly for you. I love your orchid trench and your red jeans.

Looking good and stylish in PEI! I love the outfit you are wearing in pic 3, its harmony with the background.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous pictures, and you look so fashionable lounging and eating your ice cream and tromping on the dunes! But next time you get so close to me, you really need to let me know!! And take an extra day just for a visit.

(In all seriousness, I know how important it is for a private vacation sometimes with one's life partner. So glad you got that in the midst of your stress.)

I have never been to Prince Edward County either, and we totally should go. My friend rents a beach house down there and he raves about how awesome it is.

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

Looks beautiful! And I would drive 20min for fab ice cream everyday too. On our last holiday, hubby and I would wak to a specific store for homemade gelato every night after dinner.

Your outfits are perfect for fall days. I adore the colors you are using here.

OH Sveta - thank you so, so much for sharing these pics from your wonderful holiday! You look fabulous in all of your casual ensembles and I especially love how your ice cream, trench and chair all match in pic #7. The scenery is just breathtaking - hubby and I have always wanted to go to PEI and this just makes me crave it all the more. Apple pie icecream? I swoon....

Thank you all for lovely comments. I have almost relived my vacation reading them :-)
LynD - enjoy your vacation! I did wear hiking boots in pic 1 because rocky lake shore was wet and slippery that day. However what I learned here on YLF: if you need to wear gear sometime on your travel it does not mean it should be gear all the way. My lightweight waterproof orchid trench served as well as gearish rain jacket would but looked much nicer. My combat boots were too slippery to wear on the wet rocks so i had to wear hiking boots there but they were just fine for climbing dunes the next day. :-)
Ceit, you should go, it is a beautiful place!
Krish / Shannon, it was not Prince Edward Island (I have not been there yet) but Prince Edward County, a small pinensula in the lake Ontario 2 hours east from Toronto.
Suz, I had a thought to PM you but we were not going to Kingston at all and we also were meeting some friends from Toronto there for the weekend so my time was pretty booked. Next time though we can plan something for sure because I may be coming back there - I loved the place very much. I guess it can be crowded in summer but it was perfect in September!
