WIW: nothing special but need a decision help with new booties!

Grey and white seems to be a theme for me this week.

pic #1 While it was still dry I tried to get in one more wear from my trousers: they will go to the storage until the spring when the snow comes...hopefully not for another month? I got complimented on this shirt color that day. Purple seems to be a good color for me and I like it so it is a real mystery why I have so little of it in my closet .

pic #2 I thought to use Angie's ensemble formula for a leather jacket and a pencil skirt. At first I thought to wear a "column of grey" with this white moto but then decided to break the grey up with this striped top. Somehow these red booties jumped into the picture and did not want to go away even though it was raining this day. Oh well, I sprayed them so they were OK.:-)

pic #3 I ordered these Vaneli booties from Nordstrom and went to pick them up on the border last weekend. They fit really well  - I may need to stretch them a bit more on the sides but they are not uncomfortable at all for such narrow toe box. I  really wanted black or dark blue booties but the only color I could find in my size and width were these Nut Brown ones - really nice shade of brown like a dark cognac.  So now if they pass all comfort tests  I need to decide if I want to keep them in this color or should I risk and dye them black or dark blue? I wore them with my winter white trousers and also include pictures with a dress to  see them better (##4-5). What do you think - keep the brown or consider to dye? And no, it is not easy to find black booties in my size and width and in the style I want and heel height I can manage which are comfortable.

I really like them with the white trousers. I would not dye them. Why not see how much wear you get out of them this winter/spring because they are comfortable and if you think you want to dye them, do it.

ETA - I like them with the dress also.

The booties look wonderful. They remind me a bit of my Stuart Weitzmans. Soft leather and a nice refined almond toe, almost but not quite a point.

They look great with the pants and you can wear them with dresses, too, because  of the refinement. I like this colour a lot. True, it's not the black you want...but what about keeping them like this for now to see how they work? You might find a great black pair (stranger miracles have occurred) and in the meantime might find more use for these than you think. But if not, you can go ahead and dye them.

Love outfit #2! The Munros look wonderful with the white and grey. I have been wearing mine a lot with my white jeans, believe it or not. It is just as you say -- they find their way onto my feet and there it is!

So happy I am not the only one who compliments you on the lilac shirt -- it is a great colour for you, for certain.

All of the looks are stunning Sveta! My personal fave is picture number 2, with the Red Munro booties! Two thumbs up!!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

ETA: somebody told me that the Munros are actually already weather treated and water resistant!! Amazing, but I dug around on the Munro site and a couple of other spots and I did find confirmation of this. I was caught in a shower in mine -- not a downpour -- but they were totally fine.

YLF Sveta, can't pick a favourite but the lilac with the grey is just beautiful on you.

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

I think the booties are an absolutely gorgeous shade of brown, and I would not dye them. But if your wardrobe is such that you won't be able to wear the brown booties much at all (black is always so versatile), that would need to be considered. But the first thing I thought when I saw the pic of the booties was, "What a beautiful color!"

I really like the brown booties as is; I think it's because they bookend your hair better than black does.  True, you hair is darker now, but the brown harkens back to your natural coloring.  If you are meant to have black booties, surely a pair of natural black ones will come along.  A nice brown is a bit harder to find IMHO.

You look so beautiful in all of these Sveta - but #2 just takes my breath away!  I am in love with this outfit! - and want to copy it, but I don't have anything close to that beautiful white leather jacket!  Boo!  Also, the trench is such a great fit on you in #3 - and I love the winter white trousers.  As far as the booties go, I would probably dye them if I were you.  I just think that you'd get a lot more wear out of them if they were actually in a color that you had already identified as a wardrobe hole/need - know what I mean?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ack, I just want to be you in your leather jackets! I think that may be my problem when I buy them... I want to be Sveta, yet I live in this roasting hot climate, lol.

The shoes look great with both skirts and pants. Do you already have this color shoe? If not I think give them a spin and you can always dye later if necessary.

I love these, but I need to see how well this color goes with your wardrobe - it is not black or blue, obviously, so does it work for you?

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Love the soft colors you're sporting in these pics.  Gorgeous lavender, sleek blush.  Yeah!

Glad to see the Munro's and and about (I've started wearing mine), and I like the brown booties!

  • replied 10 years ago

The Munro outfit is superb. I like the new booties too! I would keep them brown for now, and keep an eye out for black ones, and then if the brown isn't working, dye them!

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

You are so statuesque and all of your outfits are gorgeous. I think the boots are a beautiful color and I love how they look with the white trousers and leopard belt. With your amazing long legs, they look great with skirts and dresses as well, but once it gets cold out, I struggle with figuring out what tights to wear with brown boots. I vote with those who say keep them and wear them as is for now and dye them later if you're not getting enough use out of them.

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

It is a lovely shade of lavender on you, count this as another compliment for it.

#2 is fabulous, I hope to copy it some day. The stripes, the hose, the booties. Check, check, check.

I prefer the colour of the new booties as it appears on photo 3 - more merlot than brown.

  • Von replied 10 years ago

I'm no help with the booties, but the lavender on you looks stunning. It really compliments your natural coloring. Also love the booties you have on with that outfit. Very chic!

As for your new booties, I often find cognac hard to work with. I have knee highs in the color, and as much as I want to wear them, they are particular about what they choose to play well with. I love them with the white, not so much with the navy dress, but I think it's the tights, not the dress, because I love the look of cognac and navy together. Are the tights charcoal or black?

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

#1-Lilac is lovely on you.  I am also sporting bootcut jeans more right now until the bad weather starts, then it will be skinnies everyday.

#2-The striped top is lovely texture here and the red booties are a fun addition of some color to this neutral look.

#3-I prefer the brown bootie against the white trouser here vs if it were a black one.  I think you have enough softer colors in your wardrobe to keep a pair of brown booties and continue searching for a black pair.

  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago

I don't have a lot of experience dyeing leather, is there a chance that it will alter the fit?  I hate to say it but I think if you need black booties, you need BLACK booties.  Keep looking.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

You look stunning and chic in all your outfits, Sveta. Such poise and verve. I love it.

I adore the shape of the new booties. Just perfect for you. Great with skirts and dresses too.

I am in the dye the brown boots black or ink team - although I have no experience with dying shoes and do caution you.

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

Sveta, you look great!  The lilac is lovely on you and plays really well with all your neutral textures.  #2 is my favourite look - I really like the striped top and textured hose.

I think I would leave the boots for now and see how you wear them.  They look great with your navy dress and white trousers as shown.  Why not give them a month or so and then re-assess?

Sorry it took me so long to reply: I know you are all sick to hear about my craziness at work but this is my reality :-( I have NO downtime at work to do any commenting and I get home after 7PM...
Deb, I also like how they work with white trousers.
Suz, you know what is interesting: I really have hard time to style these red booties. So many times I put them on and then switch to others...but this time they did jump out at me :-) And it is good to know that they are waterproof: I guess we will put them through their paces this winter and see!
    IMJ, Ceit - thanks!
Caro, thanks for liking lilac with me. I also really love it with this particular grey.
Gigi and Donna, I agree that this brown is really nice shade. It is ironic but I almost wish they were an unattractive dull brown because then dyeing them would be no brainer.
Marley, thanks for loving #2. I had such a hard time styling this grey pencil skirt for the last 2 years so I did not wear it much. I think that those new wardrobe additions can revive this wardrobe staple.
Rae, believe me that if you had to exchange the beautiful SoCal weather for our long Canadian winters you would not think leather jackets are worth it :-) Actually if I decide to dye the booties I hope to get some DIY advice from you, our pro!
Una, I think a photo shoot is in order!:-)
Beth Ann, waving to my red booties twin!
carambola, thank you for the compliment. I don't really wear opaque tights very often but I have a pair of purple ones which should work with these brown booties. Also the patterned semi-opaque tights you can see in the last 2 pictures are dark brown so they also work.
Ornella, if we are talking alcohol here the booties are more cognac than merlot :-)
Von, the tights are dark brown.
Lisa, I also like this brown with the white.
Nicole, I don't think dyeing can affect the fit at all.
Angie, I was wondering what you would say: remember 2 years ago you told me that I need brown  boots and booties? :-) I don't have much experience either with dyeing and this is a part of my hesitation. If this color was hideous it would have made the decision so much easier, right?
Emily, this is what I am leaning to for now...
I think I am going to wear these brown booties with EVERYTHING in my wardrobe over the next couple of weeks and see how I feel before I go for drastic measures. Thank you all so much for chiming in!
