WIW: almost ink out and others...

It feels like ages since I posted the last WIW post! Life is definitely getting in the way of my YLF quality time :-( I need to get on track with taking regular pictures and posting so here we go...

pic #1 Almost "ink out"
I wore this a day before Angie's blog post. It is not technically speaking a complete "ink out" as my skirt and tights are grey and booties are black but is it close enough? This outfit was inspired by this pin from Banana Republic - https://www.pinterest.com/pin/.....
I LOVE this coated utility vest more than I ever imagined. It was definitely a wild card for me which is becoming a work horse pretty fast.
My initial thought was to wear it with dark wash skinnies (which would be more "ink out" but then I tried it with a skirt on a whim and liked it a lot.
It is a pretty busy outfit my style - a lot is going on with all the layering on top - but I think that keeping it tonal helps to lower the "business" factor. What do you think?

Twice a week I have a challenge of dressing for work and then transitioning for a dance practice or lesson. Which means I need to be warm for work but be able to remove the top layer and stay in a lightweight top for a dance. I thought this striped lurex tee should work with BF jeans but they are not high waisted enough for this length of the top. It bothered me that it kept riding up during the day. Oh well - lesson learned.

pic #3

Another work-to-dance outfit and another outing of my new workhorse vest in the same week. :-) It was a serendipity indeed that I was able to find winter worthy dressy tall boots in the same season when I went for another wildcart - culottes. I would not be able to wear and enjoy my 2 pairs of culottes as much if not for these boots - and yet I was searching for the boots BEFORE I even considering to branch into the culottes.  Now I wish I can add a second pair of winter-worthy dressy boots which are non-black - it will really increase the number of outfits I can wear in winter.

Another outfit inspired by BR pin:

These are my NYDJ ponte skinny  pants from 2013 NAS which are my version of winter leggings. The wool cobalt moto is from last year Gap.

pic #5
Culottes and dressy boots again! This time simple and tonal with ink and grey culottes fashioned from old wide leg trousers. Cozy for a cold winter day!

That was my week. Thanks for looking and have a wonderful weekend and happy Valentine day!

Such a wonderful week. My favorites are 1 and 5.

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

If forced at gun point to decide which I liked best I'd choose #4 (it's that blue thing). As always Sveta you never disappoint. I love how you wear a jacket and a vest (and frankly I am not a fan of vests or sporty chic for the most part) I am completely sold and #3 convinced me that if I found a similar vest I would at least try it on. I have a pair of BF jeans that I have wanted to spiff up a bit and #2 is the perfect inspiration. I get stuck in chunky tomboy looks when I wear my BF jeans but #2 is a lot more grown up refined and pretty -- the proportions work really well. What more can I say I love them all! I am so glad I did not miss this post. THANK YOU!

Sveta, your outfits never fail to inspire me, and these are no exception. I love your ink out outfit, and share your love of the utility vest; it looks to be a very stylish and versatile piece. I also love that beautiful cobalt moto - so stunning on you. My favourites are 1,2 and 4, but all are gorgeous.

    Thank you Joy.
DV, utility vests and jackets were never my thing too but I was very intrigued by this one because if the color (ink) and texture (leather-like coating). BR has  very similar in style vests in a traditional tan and olive colors and twill fabrication (see pictures) and they leave me completely cold...but this one is so different  it somehow fits my so-not-sporty  style!
Summer - thanks. I still love that cobalt wool moto from the last year, the color makes me happy.

i must say, you have really made that vest work! love it layered over a sweater--inspired. and with the culottes - i can see this outfit transferring so well into spring with a quick change of shoes! but is pressed, i'd have to say, #2 is my fav, you wear those BF's as if they were made for you.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Oh my word I absolutely LOVE #1 with all the layers and the vest! The proportions are spot-on and I love every detail. Wow - so well done! That vest is such a surprise workhorse! I'm not usually a fan of utility vests, but you are showing yours in stunning ways. Then I love the cobalt moto outfit. Nice tonal layers there. Oh i actually love all of your outfits. Wish I had somewhere to wear culottes, you make them look so good.

Happy Valentines Day to you! Are you going to go out to practice your dancing? :)

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

All your outfits are fab, but #1 and #4 just sing to me. I love to see shirts peeking out from underneath tops.
#1- the layering is perfection. You have given me inspiration to try this with what is in my closet.
#2 - great outfit, that's too bad that it didn't work out the way you'd hoped.
#3 - the color of that wool moto is extremely flattering on you.
#4 - culottes and boots are a winning combination for you!

I've missed you and am glad to see you posting again! Happy Valentine's Day!

Sveta, you have a great wardrobe - I really envy your ability to wear lots of pieces together, and in so many different ways!  There isn't an outfit here that's not perfect for you proportion-wise, and colour-wise.

  • Joyce B replied 9 years ago

I always enjoy looking at your beautiful outfits, you have great taste.

  • merwoman replied 9 years ago

Knock out in everyone! I'm just blown away at the perfect proportions!

  • frannieb replied 9 years ago

Have missed your outfits. As always you knocked them all out of the park and as mentioned. Enforce your silhouettes are perfection for you.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

    Looking stylish :)

  • MsMaven replied 9 years ago

All great looks but #1 really makes my heart beat faster and want to go look to see if I could copy it.

  • AM replied 9 years ago

    Absolutely wonderful!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Sveta, you look absolutely stunning. I am awed by your clever styling and your beauty.

My favourites here (and it's tough to choose) are #1 and #4. I love when a wild card becomes a workhorse.

I am smiling at your metallic tote; I saw another woman carrying one the other day and felt like waving. :)

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

These are all super! I love the last culotte outfit, the blue moto always looks wonderful and your wildcard vest is inspired! Wonderful week!

  • replied 9 years ago

Oh, there you are! So nice to be treated to some Sveta outfits again :) Looks like you had a fabulously stylish week! Love all iterations. I think favourites for me are 1,4,5.

  • Ruth M replied 9 years ago

All of your outfits are fab, and culottes were made for you. I am amazed at #5 - you cut up an old pair of trousers and wear a (deceptively) simple sweater with it, and look like a model in a photoshoot.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

I love vests, sometimes they provide just the right amount of structure for an outfit. Yours is a statement piece, I love it for the great length, and dressier utility style! Nr 1 has plenty of subtle interests and is K2K in my book, but all are fab of course. A gorgeous week! Thanx for posting again, Sveta, keep up a good job, pls:-).

  • Isabel replied 9 years ago

I LOVE them !!!  This year, I incorporated ink and black as a combo into my winter wardrobe.   And I have loved it.

It looks spectacular on you Sveta...and I am just loving the culottes.  They can be so hard to pull off  and you did an amazing job.   : )

  • anne replied 9 years ago

Sveta, you are so chic. I think number 4 is my favourite - but it is hard to choose!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Yeah!  Sveta outfits!  You are keeping your style in the depth of winter, which is no small feat.  I Love the elegant simplicity of #5, the updated way of doing short over long in #4 an the earthy/light combo in #2.

I wear a slippery cami under slightly short sweaters --- perhaps that would help?

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

Those culottes are fantastic on you - great looks :)

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you ladies for you sweet comments, you are too kind! :-)
Jackie, we did go out for a Valentine Day party on Saturday where some dancing was involved. It is  quite fun to apply the dance steps learned in ballroom dance lessons in what is clearly not a ballroom dance setting. Challenging but fun!
Suz, like you I find totes the most practical bags for work as I can fit everything into one bag( including lunch and yoga clothes :-) ) This silver one proved to be very versatile indeed working equally well in winter and in summer. I cannot believe I was hesitating if I should keep it or not as it was so shiny!
Beth Ann, I did wear a cami under a top in #2 which helped - but still was not ideal. I guess it was more how I felt than how it looked...
I will try to organize myself and take pictures every day now. Promise! :-)

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

#4 and #5.  You look like straight out of a photo shoot!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

You are the culottle queen Sveta!   I just love how you wear them and how good they look on you.  You have such a brilliantly cohesive wardrobe.

  • Zibbets replied 9 years ago

I just love your style, Sveta. These are all fantastic! I think my favorites are #1 and #4, but I even love the culottes outfits and I usually don't have a friendly eye for them. Well done.

  • celia replied 9 years ago

All your outfits are fabulous but my favorite is #5. You rock the culottes.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Once again, a week of great outfits with the infamous Sveta perfect proportions.  Really hard to pick a favourite here, so I won't :)

I'm glad to hear that you find your silver tote so useful.  I got a silver one before Christmas, and I have to confess I'm sort of waiting for summer as it seems so bright and shiny for winter wear.  Maybe I should be more adventurous.  I was actually surprised you said it was silver, it's showing quite bronzy on my screen.

Oh, and we are vest twins :).  I was waiting and waiting for one of the BR discounts to apply to a "BR pick" and finally one did, so I bit the bullet and it arrived late last week.  Like you, the beige and olive ones do nothing for me, so I've been hoping to find one in navy or black for some time now.   Perfect timing to see a couple of styling options so soon after receiving it!  I think you said you did something to yours to soften the packing crinkles?  Was it as simple as ironing?  Any tips? I'm nervous... with the waxing and all...

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

These are great!  I love the culottes and boots outfits.  They're a different silhouette but still seem very practical for the winter.  The vest is a fun third piece.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Elizabeth, I ironed mine on lower setting. It says on the label to iron from inside but it did not make much difference. I risked to steam it on the outside through the cloth so no iron contact directly with the coating. It worked really well, softening the fabric and getting rid of wrinkles.
I am exited to be a twin with you!

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

Wow a great collection of looks here.  And what variety, especially for cold weather months.  There's skirts, jeans, culottes, you have a nice variety in your cold weather wardrobe.
