WIW - one for Angie and one for Shannon!

I guess I am really recovering from my flu because I took WIW pictures every day - first time for the last 4 weeks! It feels great to be back to normal.

This is my new yellow Gap sweater I asked about last week. I decided to wear it on Monday because the day promised to be quite gloomy and I hoped this bright sweater will cheer me up - and it did. As you see I decided to keep it even if yellow is not my best color. If it makes me happy it is a reason good enough, no?
In pic 1 the sweater is its full length (on the right) and tucked in a bit in front to make it shorter - on the left. I wore it like on the left - which length do you prefer with this skirt?

This outfit is my least favorite of the week. It turned out not exactly like I envisioned it :-(

Another experiment with stripes - I felt better about it than the day before. I wanted to wear my white shirt but it was in the wash so I went with this blue one with white collar and cuffs

I got this famous Gap sweater on Tuesday night, mulled over the weird neck fit on Wednesday and wore it on Thursday because I am on Team Wear! Shannon, do you recognize your trousers from Sears?:-) I sized up 2 sizes and wear them as low on my hips as they go to get that extra inch in length. No scrunch here for sure but really dropped and slouchy :-) I wish they were 2" longer - I let the hem out and gained about 1.5" in length but if they were 2" longer it would be perfect.
As this sweater is very warm and the weather was pretty mild I decided to go wild and wore my red cape with this outfit. A bit of cheating here - I did not use this clutch as it is not roomy enough to fit in all essentials I need for work but I thought it would look nice with this outfit.

This one is for Angie - midi skirt. Well, it is a midi dress with a sweater on top. I shortened this sweater by 2" and I like it better this way with skirts or layered over the shirts. I found myself reaching for black and white polka dot scarf very frequently this year. Both my scarves are summer weight chiffon so I think I really need to find a nice fine wool scarf in black and white pattern.

I find that I don't wear my necklaces as often as before. Earrings and ring is my only jewelery lately.

This was my week at a glance. It is nice to care about what I wear again!
Have a nice weekend!

You look both cozy and cheerful in all of these!

#5 is my absolute favourite... the cape and sweater work perfectly together and the jessica pants look great on, much better than on the sears website. The gloves, clutch and booties are perfect.

I am also loving the hose in #1-2... and your coloured outerwear!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Sveta, you are looking more like yourself, too!! So great to see you in better form.

No one would ever know that yellow isn't your colour. What a fun outfit! Love the burgundy booties with the tights. Where did you discover those beauties?

Curious about what bothered you in #2.

Love #3. I think the blue shift works, and I am admiring your coat collection.

LOVE #4 - so glad you got Shannon's pants! Such a great look with the cape. And #6 is great, too.

Hmmm - 2 skirts/dresses to 3 trousers. And this is the woman always lamenting about her lack of trousers.....

So glad you are feeling better! My favorite is the yellow sweater outfit!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Sveta, I'm so glad you are feeling better. Its great that you kept that yellow sweater. I really like the outfit in #1. What a great combination of colors! I'm also studying #4. I'd love to be able to look that chic into trousers. Number 5 is lovely too. Well done!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Emily, I was happy how #5 turned out too. I am so happy I decided to keep this sweater!
Tracey, thanks. I was afraid this yellow makes me look sick but it is such a happy color I could not resist.
Suz, are you asking about burgundy tights? I bought then at The Bay last year, they also had blue, grey and black.
As for #3 - it just was not as sleek as I envisioned it to be. I think I know what is the problem - I really need a couple of great quality and fit longer blazers. This can be my NAS goal for the next year...
    <wink about the trousers>

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Amy, #4 has what I suggested on your post - shorter sweater over untucked shirt, it gives the modern twist to classic wide legs :-)

  • Nanabear replied 11 years ago

I love every single one of your outfits, especially #1 and 4. The red cape in #5 looks so fab on you. These are all perfect combinations.

In slightly unrelated news, do you mind if I ask how tall you are?

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

First of all, loving the layered scarves in the last set!

Second, you have the most sophisticated looks with outerwear --- the way you carry your coats and scarves reminds me black-and-white oldies where the heroine always has a stunning silhouette and then when her face comes into focus, you can't look away. It must be because you choose such great classic shapes and flattering colours. For so many people, the outerwear eclipses the outfit; in your case, they are just the perfect last layer of several.

I'm also curious what bothered you about #3. I rather like it!

#5 is FAB, but I do love the colour blocks of #3 (I like the shorter length, I think) and the clever skirt-dress and high-low combination of sweater and 'skirt' in that last one. Not to mention the very contemporary pattern mixing with a slightly retro skirt style.

  • Ginkgo replied 11 years ago

My favorite is the gray and black scarf with the yellow sweater -- looks so chic!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

You had a very stylish week! I love looking at your weekly outfit summaries.

My favorite is #5. I love the cream sweater on you. You look like a model here, and the red cape plus clutch -- just fantastic. The colors combined are great, the proportions are perfect. You have to repeat this outfit because it is one of your best.

My second favorite is #1. I'm so glad you kept the yellow sweater. I don't understand that this wouldn't be a good color on you. I like it on you; I like yellow on most fair people (including myself).

My third favorite is #6 -- I love the pattern mixing between the sweater and scarf, and the skirt is so romantic.

Next I like #4, it's a great go-to outfit, more conservative than your other looks and sometimes having that perfect neutral business casual look is exactly what's needed.

I agree #3 is a little off. I think you just need to make one change: wear white jeans instead of black, then I think this will look fantastic (or cream pants if that works, I can't exactly make out the shade of white in the blouse).

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

Well lady, wow... seriously, WOW!!! There is no stopping you, is there??? I was like "oh, ah, wow, mygowd, gettoutahere".

I just love how you added outerwear and since they feel so different (but always coherent) it looks like you have double the fun with one outfit only. C-l-e-v-e-r!

Quite expectedly, #4 has me melting, but red-white-black loving me has to say I swoon over #1 - that scarf and the color of the top are divine.

You have such grace, oh lord.
Amazing week, I adore our winter looks.

  • replied 11 years ago

These all look great, Sveta! I love how you put an outfit together.

  • cobaltblue replied 11 years ago

I love all of these! I think the black and white scarf at your neck stopped any color issues in their tracks. I too admire the way your outerwear works with your outfits.

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

Glad to hear you are feeling better! I like all your looks, and I think the yellow sweater is good in both lengths. I love the booties in photo #3! Where did you get them? You list it as NAS - sorry to be a dummy, but what does NAS mean?

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

So glad you're feeling better! The flu really knocks it out of you.

I am mesmerized by #5. WOW!!! KILLER to the power of KILLER. Graphic modern simplicity at its best. I am fainting, but need to get the rest of my comment out.

And what can I say - I love you in skirts too, so thank you for #6 :)

    *faints*

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Well Sveta - you've done it again! Talk about a STELLAR week! I agree that your outerwear collection is fantastic.

I do indeed recognize the trousers and they look fab on you. Love them with the cream sweater - I need to try that with mine (not the Gap sweater but at least it's cream). Adore the graphic and bold clutch and red jacket with this.

I absolutely love the rich and somewhat unexpected colour combination of the first outfit - so beautiful.

These truly are all fabulous outfits - you have amazing style Sveta!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

I would give you a big wolf whistle except I can't whistle at all. So gorgeous! I love the yellow sweater with grey scarf, the blue jacket, both trousers, stripes, and the red skirt outfit! Really outstanding bunch of outfits!

  • Asingh replied 11 years ago

Super-stylish outfits, Sveta! Glad to know you've recovered from flu!

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Sveta, you are such an inspiration.

Pics 1-2: To answer your question, I like it better on the right, for proportion. This is a great cheer-me-up ensemble!
Pic 4: the blue turned out well with the sweater. I think I even like it better than white.
It has a very preppy vibe.
Pic 5: to die for. My favourite. The clutch adds the touch! You look ravishing in this.
Pic 6: Good for you to layer, Sally style! (http://www.alreadypretty.com/2.....tials.html) Especially with the weather now.
I really like the polka dots scarf paired with stripes, especially that the top part of the sweater is a block, showcasing the scarf's print. Genius!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Thank you all for your kind comments! Sorry I was busy yesterday and could not reply earlier...
Nanabear, my height is 178cm so I am a very tall girl :-)
Manidipa, it was Angie who helped me to realize that outerwear is a part of outfit too, not just an extra layer to keep you warm. I never before in my life had such a collection of coats, jackets and trenches I have now and I really enjoy it.
Denise, it is interesting what you think is wrong with #3. White trousers? My thought was maybe I need a black blazer here instead of grey?:-)
Karie, these booties are Sam Edelman 'Petty" in python. NAS stands for Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (big thing here on YLF):

Angie, K2K - wow! I don't get a lot of those, thank you! I thought you my like this one :-)
Thank you for introducing me to the world of slouchy trousers - they are my favorite style now.
Shannon, the credit for #5 goes partially to you for posting those Jessica trousers. I would have never thought to try them on without your post!
Krish, mixing polka dots and stripes is my favorite pattern mix now!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I'm THRILLED that you became a trouser gal, Sveta. Fancy that! It leaves me chuckling *every time*. :) :) :)

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Angie, the thing is I always liked trousers on others, I just did not think I can wear them too. You showed me the way!

  • moira replied 11 years ago

I would bet that all traffic stopped when people saw you in that red cape.
I really liked that yellow sweater as well.
Dang, girl! You can wear some clothes.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I hereby crown you Queen Trousers :)

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

Your WIW's are always so inspiring. I am also trying to be on team wear it now and on team wear everything I own and team small closet. And you excel and inspire at all of these. And your outfits are always so fun. So glad you kep the gap sweater with the wider neckline, it's a fun sweater. And I like how you toned down the bright sweater in #1 (which is lovely on you) with the neutral scarf. Great job!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Lisa, it was a very lovely comment, thank you!

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

Sveta, #5 is my favorite, BUT I love the way you look in that blue coat. What a wonderful way to brighten a dreary winter day. Stunning!
