A birthday present...almost

I ordered this dress almost a month ago and honestly gave up on ever getting it - and it appeared on my doorstep today, almost in time for my birthday which was yesterday.
Do you think it is a sign I should keep it? :-) I did not really like the print online that much but decided to try it anyway. However I like it IRL much better. The overall effect is pretty fresh and soft. It is a stretchy cotton summer dress and look - long enough to cover my knees!
It fits well in the hips but a bit too big on top. I am taking it to my mom and unless she says she cannot alter it I am keeping it.

    Ha-ha Shannon, Yes I do - and we did not have a first real snow of the season yet! I am planning a trip to Florida in January so maybe this dress can tag along... actually it reminded me a bit of your floral dress.

    Gosh, this is unexpected - a breath of summer in the midst of our 12"+ of new snow!

    I think it's lovely. It's a bit retro and I love the print.

    Shevia, it is really big on top, it is just not visible in the pictures. This is my usual problem :-)
    Kristin, it is more than nice, it is simply fantastic - I am so lucky!
    Sarah, no! 12" of snow already? We did not have it at all yet...

    Oooo! A lovely late birthday gift. I love the dramatic romantic floral and the suave midi length! It will be perfect after your mother takes in the bust and waist. What a terrific dress for you; now you'll have to take a tropical vacation this winter!

    Where do you find dresses this long? I'm only 5'7" but the dresses in the mainstream shops like the Bay are way too short. It annoys me no end.
    This one's a keeper for sure - so fresh and summery.

    So spring-like and fresh, Sveta. I have to admit that I had to adjust my winter clothing eye to the floral print (I'm just not used to seeing prints like this in December!) but this dress is just lovely. Hope your mom can make it work.

    It has to be a sign! I hope it can be altered to perfection. It's begging for a place in your closet as well as your suitcase in January. Maybe it can even be winterized as a skirt with your yellow sweater worn over the top, black tights and boots?

    Well, actually it was 16", and it all came yesterday! It's lovely outside.

    Nancy, I agree, it is hard to adjust the eye now but for summer it is perfect, no?
    Joy, this is an interesting thought. I am not sure I will do it for winter (cotton skirt feels like the wrong weight for the season) but definitely for the next spring...Thanks for the inspiration!

    Sarah, that's a lot of snow in one day! Ours got lost somewhere in the midwest it seems...:-)...
    ..but 2 years ago we had over 50" of snow in one day (not to boast or anything...:-)

    Sveta, this is a lovely dress. The floral is lovely, and the cut is nicely structured. I do hope your mum can do the necessary alteration for you.

    Oh, wow, this is the best birthday gift! BTW, many happy returns opf the Day, Sveta!
    I like the forals of this dress, even not really a fan of forals in general, but this is so curent, with the bold colours, and black background, cut is fabulous and the fit perfect (don't see anything wrong on top, but know your mom will solve it for sure). Great dress, and my vote would have been Keep, from the beginning...even if not asked for:-)

    Absolutely stunning. This is a great dress for so many reasons, starting with florals, which are so big now. These are just perfect for your size, the cut is impeccable, length is flattering yet modest, the result is classic, all in all, fabulous.

    Thank you all for loving this dress together with me! I was trying to branch into floral patterns for a year without success - nothing felt right but I like this one. As some of you said the scale is right for me, the back background makes it modern and soft colors play well with my colors. In addition as Angie said - trendy and classic in the same time - how one can beat this?:-)
    Now I just have to wait until summer....or go to a tropical vacation! :-)
