WIW with a casual weekend look (special order:-))

I will do a couple of WIW posts this week so they do not get overcrowded.
pic #1
Running errands on Sunday - my casual look. I am on a self-imposed SYC until NAS and it started last week. However I have spent a TON of money this Sunday wardrobe related but not breaking SYC. Anyone want to guess what I spent the money on? OK, I confess: I BOUGHT A NEW WASHER!!!!!!!!! My old 15+ year activator washer was so bad I washed half of my clothes by hand and used delicate cycle in the washer for everything in a hope it will not damage laundry as much this way. It took me more than a year to geta new washer because I was daunted with the abundance of choices but it is all behind me now. I HAVE A NEW WASHER!!!! well, I will have it when they deliver it in 2 weeks :-)
Back to the outfit - ON white denim jacket, old bootcut cutoffs (pre-YLF not-PPL ones), studded black tank from Winners -and the debut of my new Hush Puppies white and yellow oxfords!

I have decided to wear this outfit a night before Angie posted her lace skirt post. My mom tapered this skirt a bit and said it cannot e tapered more without taking sides in higher on the hip so we left it at it. It is also pretty narrow to walk in as is so more tapering may make it uncomfortable.
I have paired it with Anthro denim shirt belted to imitate peplum (kind of :0) and teal Born flats. My mom said that she does not like this shirt and skirt together but she does not like denim with anything dressy as a rule. Do you think it worked?

I was able to take one picture only before my battery died so not the best shot. Paige Hidden Hills bootcuts and Trouve flat oxfords from Nordstrom, animal print Bellatrix blouse from Rack, black Costa Blanca sleeveless jacket (thrifted)

Another wavelength with Angie's posts from this week: decided to wear this skirt and denim jacket in the evening - an found Angie's post with the same formula in the morning. I had a choice of a dark wash and white denim jackets and faded medium blue denim blazer - and Angie's post made me select the medium blue one. It was also my son's birthday so we went to a dinner and movie after work. He selected to see Avengers and I was surprised that I quite enjoyed this movie: I am usually not a fan of action superhero movies but this one was quite good.
polka dot skirt and TH denim blazer via consignment; Trotters metallic patterned grey low wedges, black AT sleeveless top, red Chromia bag.

This was the first part of my week - and thanks for looking! As usually any comments and suggestions are very welcome.

You look stunning Sveta! All the outfits are amazing. I want to steal your polka dot skirt :) And congrats on the new washer!

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

Great outfits! I almost bought a similar black studded shirt last week. After seeing your outfit I'm tempted to go back and look for it now.

I love the vest with printed shirt in #3 and the polka dot skirt in #4.

I am excited for you to get a new washer - it will be such a timesaver for you it sounds like.

Love your polka dot skirt and denim jacket : just fantastic pairing. I also think your new bermuda shorts look so great on you and the long top/crop jacket is perfect.

A new washer is exciting! I'm looking for a new one myself...which one did you get?

I'm not sure if it's the denim shirt or the flats seem off to me in #2. The rest of the outfits are FAB. Hey wait a minute...you stole my polka dot skirt that I found laying around awhile back!!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Wow I love the denim blazer and skirt combo! Fabulous :-)

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

All these looks are winners but I am particularly taken with 1 & 4. Love the new oxfords and the polka dot skirt.

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

OMG, never a mistake on you, all are gorgeous!!! Great inspiration, landed to my faves!

  • Lantana replied 11 years ago

I find all outfits except # 2 Very appealing. They tick all the boxes in my book. I would like the skirt in #2 to be quite a bit shorter. This has something to do with the visual impact of the fabric. To my eye it is throwing the outfit out of balance. Then again, the skirt at its current length would be perfect with a sleeveless top. So I think your Mum's reservations about this outfit have more to do with line or form than with denim.

My favorite look here is #4 by far!

Congrats on the washer, I got a new dryer last year and it's heaven (well after the long ordeal to get it installed properly but that's another story).

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

I don't have a favorite. I love them all Sveta. You have gone from casual to ladylike sophistication in one week. Beautifully done.

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Something about #1 is so unexpected yet it works! Love it. Next favorite is #4. You look wonderful as always.

I understand about the washer! We finally pulled the trigger on our old (20-year-old? Came with the house) washer and dryer, and we are so glad we did. One day I just marched into Best Buy with my Consumer Reports notes, pointed to the set that came highly recommended, and found out it was on sale, so it was meant to be!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Yay for a new washer!!

You look fab as always, of course! I love #4 the most; that skirt is so much fun! Perfect for a movie night.

I am eyeing your white denim jacket enviously, too. I think I am going to have to find one of those before the summer ends.

As to your question, I think the denim potentially works with the skirt but I agree that something in the proportions is less than perfect. It might be the shoe, or Lantana might be right—maybe the eye craves more skin up top with a sleeveless look. I would experiment with some of your other footwear first and see. It is definitely worth trying some more.

I loooove everything here, especially #3 and 4. Gorgeous!!!

Hi Sveta! Some very fun outfits this week. The popped collar on the jean jacket in outfit 1 frames your face so well. I think the problem with outfit 2 may be the 1:1 proportion created by the untucked shirt and the skirt. The long sleeves on the shirt also give the outfit an overall stiff feel. Do you know what I mean? Different shoes may change the look too. By the way, how do you like that Anthro shirt? I've had it in my online cart for weeks, but have yet to pull the trigger.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I can totally relate to your "new washer excitement"! I just got a new one in January (my 20 year old one finally died) and it has made my life so much easier.

I'm having trouble looking at all the outfits because I keep going back to #4. I swear you look like you should be in Paris meeting your incredibly wealthy (and younger) boyfriend for a late breakfast before a day of fabulous shopping! I think this would also look fab with your white denim jacket, but I love it as is.

I love the fit of your white ON denim jacket - I might have to check that one out.

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

Well, you've had a great style week so far :-)

I think the denim with the lace work beautifully! I love that silhouette and length skirt on you. But then I also love the silhouette of the polka dot skirt on you, and think it's brilliant with the black top and denim jacket.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of your week!!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I think we are telepathic :)

LOVE #1 and #4 especially, Sveta, Those are 11s!

    ENJOY YOUR NEW WASHER.

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

Those shoes in #1 are so fun! And I also like #3, the layering here is really nice. The light shoes perfectly tie into the springtime season. Nice job! And congrats on the washer, very exciting!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

All of these outfits are just beautifully styled! I love the vest in #3 with the animal print and that skirt in #4 is so cute with the denim jacket.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Congratulations on the new washer! How exciting! I know what you mean about being overwhelmed by choices: We needed a new vacuum cleaner for about 5 years before we finally "pulled the trigger" on a new one.

You had a fab week! 1 and 4 are my faves--so clean and both pack a lot of punch. I wonder about those particular shoes with 2? Maybe your nude Fidjis?

  • replied 11 years ago

Sveta, all of these are great, but I especially love #4. Your white denim jacket would look cute with it too, as an alternative! You look fab!

@Shannon, ROFL about Sveta's *wealthy, younger Parisian boyfriend*!

  • K. Period. replied 11 years ago

1 and 4!!! Wow! Is it warm in here? Noooo. That's just you--too hot! (sizzle)

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Outfits 1 and 4 are to die for! You are so stylish.

As for the lace skirt, I think I understand your dilemma of trying a way to wear it casually.

However, I must agree with your mother on this one. The fabrics, to me, clash too much. I understand that you are trying to create curves, I would try the same thing with it. Is it vintage? I have a very similar vintage lace dress passed on from my mother. I too struggle with it. Mine is very fifties in its cut, very Jackie O and won't accept anything else that I try to pair with it.

Have you tried showing off the top part of the skirt?
    Ex. With a bouffant short sleeves knit top or angora top (for winter);
    With a Jackie O style cardigan;
    3/4 sleeves boat neck tee, tucked;
    High cut sleeveless top.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Thanks you all for your kind comments. And thanks for sharing my excitement about a new washer! AJ, I got Maytag HE front loader.
Thanks for everybody who gave me suggestions for a lace skirt outfit. Krish, the skirt is not vintage. I liked the cool lacy - snake print teal fabric and wanted a high waist midi pencil skirt so my mom made this skirt for me. I have to work more with that midi lace skirt: it is a new concept for me and I am sure I will make more mistakes on the way so stay tuned :-) In addition this fabric does not photograph well in color and texture and it appears heavier in the pictures than IRL. I am not giving up yet!
DJ, I like this Anthro shirt for many reasons: the drape, the softness, high-low hem... There are 2 things in it which I struggle with: buttons don't go all way up to the collar and no cuffs on the sleeves. We have remedied the button issue by adding 2 more buttonholes and buttons but cuffs are still a problem. I cannot scrunch the sleeves or roll them up and this limits how I can wear this shirt. I am looking for the solutions my mom can make(she is a sewing wiz!) but I would not buy this shirt if I realized the cuff issue from the beginning.
Shannon, LOL on the *wealthy, younger Parisian boyfriend*! Actually I had a "younger" escort with me that day, Londoner rather than Parisian but unfortunately nor wealthy (see pic) :-)

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Sveta, your mom is so talented! Lucky you!

  • christy replied 11 years ago

These are great Sveta! I'm not quite as crazy about #2 as I am about the others though... But the others are fantastic! Yay for a new washer! :)

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

You look gorgeous! I can't decide which is my favorite...#1 or #3
