WIW, W(hat) I D(id) and W(hat) I B(ought) over this weekend!

I have posted 4 outfits in the Picture Perfect Challenge threads last week so here is the remainder of the week:
pic 1 - wore to work on Friday because I was feeling quite casual that day. I really like this charcoal relaxed sheath dress I thrifted 2 summers ago but there are 2 things which make it less perfect for me. It is too short to wear with tights to work so I always have to pair it with leggings or leans. Secondly the armholes are a bit too high which is not very comfortable when I wear this dress over a shirt. Also it begins to look a bit tired and past its prime so I think I am ready to retire it. I think I got a great CPW from $5 dress; however I like the style so much that I am thinking to ask my mom to recreate it with a longer length and lower armholes.

This weekend we made a trip to Niagara region and met there with our friends from Toronto for some wine tasting, night waterfall watching, a theater performance and a general catching up on things. We could not wish for a better weather for this weekend and had a great time. I also used this as an opportunity for some dressing up :-)
pic 2 - red jeans and pattern mix. This black tunic shirt is not very comfortable to layer under anything with sleeves as it has 3/4 sleeves. I used safety pins to keep them in place :-)
pic 3 - wore my polka dot dress to the theater. Isn't it funny how my hubby and I picked matching white and black polka dot outfits - completely unintentional I must say: I have not seen what he packed for himself. Even the color of our shoes matched - isn't it funny?
I also got a couple of things in a little shop there: this black and white striped clutch in pic 3. I didn't have a small bag for going out - my all bags are practical -and was not really looking for one but this bag caught my eye in the store. I liked the shape and the pattern and the fact that it is a glossy patent - in other words it spoke to me in the store which bags don't do too often. I bought it, moved my keys, lipstick and credit card into it from my practical cross body bag I was wearing at the moment, made a quick trip to my car to drop off my old bag and used this new one for the rest of the day - because I am on a Team Wear and also because it was so much fun against this dress! I also bought these earrings (pic 4) - again not practical at all because I won't wear them to work (too long!) and I don't have too many dressy occasions for them - but who cares? I guess I was not in a practical mood that day!:-) As you can see I wore them right away too because that was one of those rare occasions and I could not miss it :-)

It was interesting to see some trendy pattern mixing in the theater crowd. This older gentleman surely won a prize - look at the stripe and polka dot mix: fun!

You are just looking gorgeous Sveta! You and hubs make a smashing looking couple! I think duplicating the sheath dress with another one made is a fabulous idea. When something works it definitely bears repeating!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    So cool, Sveta!

I think you are very smart (and lucky) to get your mother to duplicate (with improvements) your grey dress. I would like to do this with one of mine, as well - same style. SO useful.

I love your outfit in #2, and you and your hubby are so sweet in #3! The new clutch is perfect. I am coming down to the view that the only bags to own are supremely practical (cross body or tote) or wildly impractical (sweet clutches).

Stripes and polka dots are such a fab combo. I love the photo of you and V, and thank you for sharing it with us!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Fun, fun, fun! My favorite is the picture of you and your husband. You two look so striking!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

I can see why you love the dress in pic #1. It looks like the perfect simple dress to add and layer with.

I love #2. Red jeans shouldn't be that versatile but they do seem to work with a lot don't they?

I also think the polka dot dress is very nice on you. Great bag too.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

THAT b/w BAG! So cool! You look stunning in that photo.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

You and DH are doing some great pattern mixing. Great outfits - all of them!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

You and your DH look like you're made for each other! Love the bag and, while all your looks are spot on, I adore #2, red jean twin!

What fun to have some more dressing up occasions, it sounds like you had a wonderful time. I love your new clutch and earrings! Mr. Sveta is quite dashing and handsome! How do you get him to dress so well? The two of you make such a smart couple. I love the picture of the pattern-mixing gentleman as well!

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

When I read "glossy", I knew I would like the new bag but actually I LOVE it. And with the little hand cutout part - so great for a clutch. You and DH both look perfect for the theater. Fun to dress up for sure (and it's nice to have a few impractical things like a bag and earrings!).

The rest of the week was great - your formula of tunic/dress over slim leg works so well for you.

Gotta ADORE a couple so obviously on the same page!

Love your fun finds, and especially like your first outfit with the sheath dress. That's a charming little dress, so I really hope you can get another, only better!

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

Great photo of you and hubby! I don't think mine would wear polka dots, but I've never asked him.

I like that grey shift dress in #1. I envy your own personal tailor! Sveta's mom, you are awesome!

Great accessory finds! Sometimes you just have to BBQ when it's love at first sight!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Love 2, 3 and those shades in #4. You and hubby look look like the beautiful people together in that photo!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Sveta you look fab in all these outfits. Your polka dot dress is just beautiful and you and your hubby are a gorgeous couple and I did notice how you complement one another fashion wise:) The clutch is stunning and i love it against the dots.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Shannon, Amy, Shevia, Beth Ann, Manidipa, Deborah - thanks!
Suz, I think you have something here on the bag classification...
Kyle, V says Hi to you!
Dianthus, red jeans are fun to play with. However this particular pair causing me a lot of styling issues because it requires tunic length tops because fabric is quite thin like in leans :(
Una, I am glad you approve of the bag!
Claire, I saw this polka dot shirt in a store when we shopped for him and it was in his size. It is made in Italy, the fit is slim and the quality is super. I pointed it to him and his first reaction was - no! Honestly I don't remember how it happened that he agreed to buy it after all and braved to wear it out - I guess it took some persuasive skills on my part:-) I guess he is a sucker for a good quality items and this one is a pleasure to wear. Anyway he wore it to a party in friends' house and nobody laughed at him. Anyhow this is one of his favorite shirts now and he wears it to work at least every other week!
Christieanne, I was surprised to find this bag quite comfortable to use that day, It does not fit much inside but the handle made it more practical and I could also tuck in under an arm when I needed both arms.
AJ, I would never though m hubby would wear polka dot shirt, I showed it to him on whim and he ended up buying it!
Denise, this was a new shape for me in sunglasses, I am glad you like them!

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Love them all, you are such a fashionable couple!:-)

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

You andyour hubby make one very stylish couple! Love the earrings you bought :-)

  • missvee replied 11 years ago

Sveta you look amazing in these outfits! It's easy to see how confident you are in your choices - you notice the striped bag, buy it and wear it - no humming and hawing - you just know that it's right for you. That's a great feeling!

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

#1-I adore the layered sheath dress look on you, you really rock this look.
#2-Fun pattern mix with the scarf here.
#3-The new bag is really fab! Just a fun bag. And you are hubby are a gorgeous looking couple!

  • marianna replied 11 years ago

You and hubby are soooo cute in your polka dots! LOVE. Where is his shirt from? My guy needs a polka dot shirt in his life ASAP.

You look absolutely gorgeous in everything you wear. Just perfect.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I can't take my eyes off picture #3 to look at the rest. SO KILLER! Both of you. The Polka Dot Brigade.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

    Thanks!
I guess my YLF training is rubbing off my hubby too. Let's see what happened for the last 2 years:
    - I got him into slim fitting jeans from Gap in dark and medium wash. He never wore jeans to work before but he wears those - because they look good on him.
    - I got him into slim fit shirts - over a lot of resistance. His objection was that he does not like his cloting tight and I had to prove to him how big a difference is between "tight" and "tailored" and that "tailored'gives you the same freedom of movement as "relaxed' but looks a million times better.
    - I got him into wearing his shirts untucked with jeans for a more modern look
    - at last I got him into polka dot shirtNext on the agenda is to wear scarves like guys in Paris...:-)
Marianna, we got this shirt at Winners, it is made by some Italian brand - I don't remember which one. I usually check Winners for men stuff, they have good trousers, shirts and sweaters from time to time - frequently made in Italy.
Angie, thanks for the K rating, we will try to keep up :-)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Sveta you are looking fabulous as usual! I agree that it's worth having your mom make a sheath (or two) based off the one in #1. Love the soft colors there with the black leggings, it's a bit unexpected for me and makes the outfit strong and dramatic. Great red jeans outfit in #2, I like the dark top with the light/white elements coming from the shoes and scarf. Clever! You and hubby look so fab in #3! Maybe I should start showing my husband interesting shirts on whims, see if he goes for any :D The new black and white striped patent clutch is just gorgeous, what a great find! Hooray for Team Wear, it works perfectly with that outfit.

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

Aww, you two are SO cute and stylish in #3 :-) Love that your DH had gotten onto polka dot bandwagon and that scale of dots is perfect for a guy! I'm going to have to get my DH to get out Gap jeans. . .he's stuck on some pretty relaxed jeans and I've only been firm on being dark wash. Time to add it the slimmer straight leg ;-)

Great purse and it should be a great accessory for all sotr of summer outfits!
