WIW: variations on the topic of white and grey

Grey and I are not a match made in heaven... or anywhere else for that matter. However I like how it looks with white and some other colors like yellow or pink. This was the reason why I got these Gap grey skinny jeans several months ago. So when Angie posted this ensemble this outfit was already swimming in my head...but alas! a week ago I was just 2 days recovering from a surgery and could not tolerate anything except PJ around my midsection... :-)
This week I went to work and used this opportunity to sport this outfit at last - pic #1. Unfortunately these jeans stretch like crazy

after several hours of wear

and fit like BF jeans rather than skinnies (and not even slim BFs )- not fab! I think I will be purging them quite soon - too bad because I love this grey color :-(
The shirt is new  - a lucky find on the clearance rack in Winners. It is by Adrianne Papell and cost me around $20. The quality is very nice, I like the hi-lo hem and look at the length on the back! I rest my case :-) One cannot have too many white shirts, right?

Pic #2  was what I wore to work the next day. Everything in this outfit is old. I am trying to wear my culottes while it is not too hot for them yet.
I have some inspirational pictures on my Pinterest board for culottes with flats - here, here and here so I tried to experiment a bit. The shoes are lower vamp and not complete flats - about 1.5" wedge.

I tucked the top in but  these culottes are not high-waisted.

Last time I tried to wear these culottes with flats  it was a disaster - how is it this time?

Thank you for looking and as usual all comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.
Have a great weekend!

First, it is great to see you and I hope you are recovering well. You look wonderful!

I really love the first outfit and I am bemused about the jeans. I have the same ones (I think) and they do not stretch out like that for me. A little bit, but not a huge amount. I wonder what is going on? Sometimes different batches have different fabrications. What a shame, though. I wonder if they would be okay as shorts or clams? Seems a waste to let them go entirely.

I love the new shirt and it is fun paired with the vest.

Also, the culottes outfit is lovely! I think it works with these shoes -- the lower vamp definitely helps, as does the low contrast.

He-he Suz - I do recover well: we went dancing last night because I could not stand it any longer! :-)
Did you get your size in jeans or sized down? I got my size and you see how much they bagged out. Actually I am not sure I could have sized down because even now the calves are quite snug. I guess I was no lucky but they were so inexpensive that it is not a big deal. I can wear them at home and in the garden now :-)
Glad you like the culotte outfit. I felt good in ti but when took the pictures in the evening I was not sure...

Sveta, I would have like #1 if those darned jeans weren't so baggy.

#2 looks wonderful and I love that top!

Glad you're on the mend !

    I can only echo dakotacheryl.
Great culottes and top in #2.
Glad you recovered so well. :)

    Hope you are recuperating .
I like #1, was this picture taken in the morning before the jeans stretched ?

I think the outfit with the cullotes is fab as it is. I don't remember the other outfit but I like this version.

You've done well with grey and white, even if they're not your easiest color combination. Baggy jeans aside, I love both stylings. I made a note of your first one to try with new Long Tall Sally grey skinny jeans which I just bought today!

Your red bag looks fantastic with the second outfit.

Glad the recovery is going well; I didn't know you were going to have surgery.

Gardening pants, it is. :D  Culottes outfit is plain wonderful.

  • Debbie replied 8 years ago

Love the culottes outfit! Hope you are feeling better.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Both outfits are stunning. The culottes absolutely work with these flats (and it helps that you are tall and the culottes aren't too wide, speaking from the other end of things so to speak). Glad you are recovering well and looking fab as ever!

    Both outfits are fantastic, Sveta.
I had the same issue with a pair of faded black Always Skinny Skimmers.  I only wore them a few times but they stretched out so badly I sent them to Value Village.

  • Cococat replied 8 years ago

Both outfits are great. To be honest, I'm not a fan of culottes, but they look great on you and I really like the way you have styled them.

I looked at your old post that you linked and I couldn't get past the fitted dress and boots outfit. Wow! Stunning!!!

Love the color and layering of #1 -- I do agree that skinnies would be best.  I think the combo might work with a pair of flowy widelegs, too, especially with your length.  I like #2 alot -- I like the movement in the culottes, particularly.

Hope you're feeling better each day!

The culotte outfit looks awesome!  I think flats would be fine with the culottes as long as they have a low vamp and a pointy toe:)

The grey jeans outfit is fab but I am wish you on the saggy baggy thing.  This would drive me crazy. I could see that outfit working with a cool pair of skinny leg grey 'coated' / 'waxed' jeans.

Sveta, hope you're completely healed by this date! Fab outfits both! The cullotte one here indeed is much more sassy(and a fave of yours this season) then the older one. It probably has to do with lower contrast shoes to  your skin and only one color block on your top part. And, esp love the whites with greys seasoned with a  pop of red!

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

I like both outfits, even the bagged out jeans.

Sveta, I hope you recover quickly from your surgery and that you get the result your doctors expected for you.

I love both outfits. I admired the vest when you first purchased it and think you did a wonderful job styling it here. Your second set of pics with the culottes is my favorite though. I love the colorful purse mixed in with the grey and white, and I love the geometric print top. It's lively and fun. It really gives the outfit some personality!

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

I like that grey with white too, Sveta. It's a lovely combination....especially for summer. You can probably make them home wear pants with a white tshirt/shirt!

I absolutely love the culottes outfit. The whole look is smart and put together and the shoes really do work.

I hope you recover completely soon. And Yay to dancing!!! PS: I suggest u don't overdo it until the doc thinks you can!

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

I like both outfits, and that's too bad about the jeans. I don't have the always skinny skimmers, I have the resolution slim straight skimmers, and those don't bag out much at all. I have them in blue and duplicated them in red, and for some weird reason the red ones bag out/fit looser than the blue ones. Go figure.

The second outfit is my favorite. No disaster in sight, the flats look good. The colorful purse takes everything to the next level of fabness.

Thank you all for good wishes and kind words. I am recovering very well - the surgery was very minor. Just cannot lift heavy weights (very useful limitation to have in bossing my men around :-) ) and have to avoid exercises which strain the abs (not a good limitation to have for my waistline :-( )
Celia, pic#1 was taken in the end of the day, after the jeans stretched beyond any limit.
Windchime, cannot wait to see you styling the grey LTS jeans  - and reporting on the bagging factor :-)
I am glad the culotte outfit was not a disaster as the previous one - phew! I was afraid that I am loosing the sense of style after spending a week in PJ! :-)
Marylin, you too? What is wrong with those jeans? They are 99% cotton so one would think they should not stretch that much...
CocoC, I appreciate you loving the culotte outfit even if you are not a fan of the trend - and thank you for the compliment on that dress outfit.
Deborah, I am not cool enough for the coated or leather skinnies yet - not as much as you are!
Maneera, I was careful with the first dancing after the surgery and we left after 2.5 hours when I began to feel tired. But it was fun!
Karie, my Resolution straight light blue jeans do not stretch at all - as you expect when they are recommended by Angie. I think they will be my grey substitute for the summer - and then faded blue for the colder season.

The culotte outfit is super fab on you, Sveta!  The proportions, the fit, the style, the colors, the level of contrast - and the accent color of the bag.  Absolutely a winner - I imagine you getting a lot of compliments when you wear these pieces together!
