WIW: the satchel battle continues...

OK, this is a little cheating: I did not use any of those new birthday bags today because in the morning I still was not sure which one I want to keep so did not dare to cut the tags. However when I came home to take pictures I realized that both of them should work with my outfit better than the nude clutch I used today.
Sooo - which one you like better? :-)
(my hubby preferred the dove here and still wants me to keep both, my very own enabler!)

Only mine polka dot sweater - NAS
Martin straight leg trousers - Banana Republic
Red Munro Robyn booties - NAS
Danier "Michelle" satchels - dove and black :-)
Very old studded belt - Winners

I'm still a bigger fan of the black, even with this outfit. But your DH is right; the true answer is to keep both.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

I like the dove better with this outfit. But, the black is still my favorite because of the gold hardware. I just love it.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I am leaning toward keeping both (bossy Angie has spoken :-) )
Deb, they both have gold hardware but it is more noticeable on the black one - and this is what attracted me to it in the first place.

I still prefer the dove bag. I would have barely noticed the black bag in the picture with your black trousers if I hadn't been looking for it. But the dove bag is a "can't miss" kind of bag. I don't see anything wrong with keeping both UNLESS you suspect that you'll get tired of the silhouette and one will become an orphan.

With this outfit I like the black, but ultimately I think you must listen to DH and Angie and keep both!

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

I'm with your hubby - I prefer the dove here. So that settles it - keep both :-)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I prefer dove here -- so you MUST keep both!! If Mr. S and Angie agree, what is the argument? It is your xmas gift to you.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I think they both work here but differently. Dove is bringing an unexpected and contrast note and black in understated and elegant and allows the sweater to take the central stage...or maybe I am kidding myself...
Suz, I consider both of them as birthday present so I still can count on something else for Christmas as well :-)

I'm sticking with my love for the dove. Keep both if you love both! I think the only argument for sending one back would be if you crave variety in the silhouette of your bags.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Your DH seems to be a very sweet enabler! I still love the dove for the pop! And you should never ever (ever!) disregard the opinion of your OH ;). I vote keep both!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 10 years ago

They are both beautiful bags and it really comes down to personal preference and you are the person whose preference counts.  Go with what you love Sveta.  you won't regret it.

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

I like the black with this outfit. I think when you have the dove purse, the purse is more in the spotlight, but when you have the black purse, I notice your sweater, booties, and belt more. I suppose you could say that the dove purse distracts the eye more from the outfit elements, while the black allows the outfit elements to stand out.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I prefer the dove with the outfit you are wearing (and I LOVE that dotty top). However, if DH says you should keep both you simply must listen to him! Wifey duty and all that, right?!

  • Angela K replied 10 years ago

My vote is for the dove with this outfit but by all means keep them both! The are great bags and I love the fact that they stand up when you put them down. That's always the clincher for me, once I find a style that I like.

  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago

I love them both. And i love your hubby for encouraging you to keep both!

    You look especially gorgeous today!

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

I agree with your hubs! Love the dove, and you should keep both.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

I like the dove grey satchel best.  But you can't go wrong, either way!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

… And I love DHs problem solving skills!

  • vipanchi replied 10 years ago

    I like the dove too!

  • LAR101 replied 10 years ago

I prefer the black for the same reasons as Gigi.
Sveta, I like your thinking of how each works.
Nice to solve the 'problem' by keeping both.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Sveta, I like both of your satchels, of course. But think I have kind of a clue for your dilemma. Have you thought about your outerwear, too? I usually love contrasting bags for casual and sunny and blending for more dressy or snowy, darker days in winter. I do both, but have to admit I mainly have  black or  brown outerwear.

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

I like the dove better here, but still prefer black overall....

  • Runcarla replied 10 years ago

    Love dove best...

  • cbayna replied 10 years ago

Both colors hold its own depending on your outfit. Of course in some outfits dove grey will show off more and in some outfits it is the black. Both are neutrals hence either one will fit in its own way.  In your photos above, the dove grey looks better (due to contrast, the 2nd photo shows too much black) and I am sure in other  outfits the black will look better.Since the head honchos your DH and Angie have spoken keep them both so you can stop agonizing which one to keep.

  • replied 10 years ago

I think you must keep both!

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

    Love the dove

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

I still prefer the dove one.  If you keep both, you may have a tough time deciding which bag to use everyday. :)

  • Catnip replied 10 years ago

I prefer the black bag with this outfit.  It's somehow sleeker and more elegant, and you already have one contrasting color with the booties.  The dove, however, would be great with other outfits.  Originally I thought having two bags in exactly the same style might not be good, but now I'm wavering.  The dove bag looks larger, probably because it's a light color.  If you truly love both of them and will use them, then I say keep both!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

I love hubby and Angie's choice - both!

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

Please, please keep both bags, Sveta. They are both stunning and completely fit your style!!

In this outfit I think both work equally well. The dove grey adds a lighter colour contrast, and the black with gold detailing subtle elegance.

    What fantastic finds!!-)

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Thank you all for your opinions. I am seriously leaning towards keeping both. My first thought was - why have 2 bags in the same style? Should I keep black and get dove in different style (Shannon's dome satchel is from the same series and comes in dove). Then I thought: "Wait a minute, you love the dove color IN this particular style, not just the color so another style would not be the same anyway"  As for the black - this was the first black bag I got attracted to EVER and mostly because of the style and gold hardware - why look for a different black bag JUST for the sake of differences if I love this one? I also feel that being the same style they look pretty different because of the dramatic difference in color and different level of contrast with the hardware...different enough to play very different roles.
So I think I "almost" convinced myself. I am taking one of them for road test tomorrow and if it passes the practicality test I am keeping both!

Sveta, I am late to the bag party but FWIW I really like the dove one. The black disappears against your black pants which makes me think a bigger black bag might be an idea. Just a thought:)
