WIW: relaxed pencil skirt and others

Woo-hoo! At last the ensemble post I can shop my closet for that very morning! This does not happen too often. So here it is:

pic 1 Swingy sweater with a pencil skirt

Even though this sweater is not cropped I think it works with the skirt here because it is fine knit which is swingy on the bottom and it makes 2:1 proportion to the skirt length (or so I tell myself). I felt a need to add something but did not like the necklace here so went for a grey silky scarf for a tonal look. Is it better with or without the scarf?
- purple trench: essential because I can wear it with 90% of my outfits but quite a statement in color;
- grey pencil skirt - essential in everything except that pencil skirts are not essential for my style :-); however it is not a statement for sure;
- blue fine knit tunic - actually this may be my essential "updated" sweater;
-  grey boots -  I think they are statement boots really even though they are quite easy to incorporate into most of my outfits;
- dove satchel - this is my essential bag when I want to lighten things up.

pic 2 Lilac and plaid
Another try for that lilac BR shirt here. I think I am ready to pass it on: it is too bunchy tucked in (looks like the fabric is not drapey enough) and too short to wear under a sweater like here. Too bad as I like the color!
Debut of my SSIF shadow plaid trousers from AT. This is regular length as long was not available. I had the hems tapered though so they work at this length for me - and easier to wear in bad weather. After wearing them that day I decided to let an extra 1" out for more scrunch so they are back to my mom now. You cannot see from this picture but booties match the red in the plaid.
Essentials: navy sweater, dove bag.
Statement: plaid trousers, red booties

pic 3 Cream and brown or Culottes are out to play!
A maiden voyage of my new cream culottes! I am in serious love with those babies. They are definitely not essentials and quite a statement BUT they work with so many things in my wardrobe  - amazing! I am afraid you are going to tire of seeing them before the winter ends! :-)
I had them shortened by 2" as I think they look better on this length.
Essentials: shirt, bag, booties, jacket
Statement: culottes (wildcard), belt

pic 4 Long and lean
Another debut - Trouve gillet from NAS. I had it altered in the upper half as it was gaping in the bust and under arms (and not in the fluid way). Another
wildcard which is going to come out quite often as it is another love. Bonus: it fits completely under my trenches and black coat - yay!
Question: I tried to roll BF jeans 2 different ways here -smaller roll with longer length and higher roll. Because of the bootie opening the roll has to be clear of it or otherwise it get caught in it. Which roll is better?
Essentials: BF jeans, black booties, bag
Statement: gillet, turtleneck

Do you think I got my essentials right here? As usual all comments and feedback are very much appreciated.
Have a great weekend!

I want to come back and say more later, but I just have to say you look A-MAZING in #3 and #4.  These outfits are totally perfect on you to my eye.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

*Fanning* 1, 3, 4 are just sensational looks!

I like 1 with the scarf. It adds some pattern interest to the outfit.

In outfit 4, I like the smaller roll with longer length. Mainly because the long gilet requires some leg length IMO.

I think you got your essentials and statements right too :).

ETA: 2 is good too! Although it doesn't feel good to you :(

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

    I'm a little speechless!

So fab Sveta. Special mention for the culottes, your styling is impeccable. And the gilet...wow.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Waving at my sweater and bootie twin!

As usual, every one of these outfits is a WOW, but I'm especially thrilled with those culottes. Just amazing, and your styling is perfection.

So glad you got the gilet; it looks great. And I love the new AT trousers, too! You have managed to get a few really nice items there this year.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

You make this all look so easy, getting dressed for work.  When I know it is not!  Your outfits blow me away like a 100 mph wind on an 8000 meter peak.

I think I prefer the boyfriend jeans with the small roll.

  • replied 9 years ago

Wow! Just wow! Each outfit is fabulous. Individual pieces that I love are the culottes, gilet and plaid pants, what great purchases. I don't think I'll get fed up of seeing the culottes.

I agree with Denise re-bf roll.

Sveta, these are all so stylish. It is so good to see you in a skirt now and then! You wear them so well too.

1 - You ask if the scarf should come off or not: to me, adding the scarf changes the vibe of the outfit, and both versions (with or without) are darling. I would wear with the scarf with a shorter jacket that adds more volume on top, or bring the eye upward it has a more casual, out and about feel. Without the scarf works best with the shown coat for a long line. It has a gorgeous, chic and simple vibe, very French IMO, and shows off the earrings beautifully.

3- The cream culottes are perfect! Perfect length too. With the jacket, the silhouette is totally you. AND you found the perfect footwear for them too.

4 - For this lovely long and lean look, my eye prefers the length of jeans cuffs in the middle pic.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Another gorgeous set of outfits! I like #1 both ways, with a slight preference for the scarf.

I like the lilac shirt, and it doesn't look too short with the top you have on. I hear you about shirts being too short under sweaters, though - I have that problem all the time.

I love culottes and will never tire of seeing yours in outfits. I like the length that they are now.

I like the longer cuff better on the BF jeans.

I'm still processing the whole statement vs. essentials thing - but I'm pretty sure you got it right!

  • jenanded replied 9 years ago

Fantastic! Especially love the coat in 1 and the berry/fuschia top in 4 just makes you glow!

  • Destri replied 9 years ago

Rock on, Sveta.  All look terrific on you.  I do like the scarf in #1 as well because I like the contrast up near your face (plus I like the scarf!).  Good Idea to taper the plaid pants.  I have to remember that since I, too, sometimes have trouble finding pants that are long enough.  I can't decide which cuff I like for the boyfriend jeans . . . Oh, and I like the way you balance "unmatchy" (unexpected) with "matchy" (pull-together) in general with your outfits.  I will continue to watch and learn!

  • anne replied 9 years ago

    Wow you look great Sveta!

  • marianna replied 9 years ago

Wow… I am looking at each outfit and am wondering if I could replicate… such beautiful combinations.

  • lynn replied 9 years ago

You are absolutely gorgeous in all outfits! I will be the different vote and say that I like #1 best sans scarf. To me, it looks so simply elegant without it. I like the smaller roll on the jeans too. Beautiful!

  • always trying replied 9 years ago

love all the looks in 1.  You wear the tall boots with the skirt sooo well.  the sweater is gorgeous.  all so well put together.

  • PalmFronds replied 9 years ago

Wow very fab, I love these outfits! Love the scarf, keep in combo
Those cream culottes look amazing on you!

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

Stunning outfits Sveta, I especially like the first and the last one.

I was also really enjoying your essentials/statements analysis, great job.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

You launched me into orbit with #3 and #4, and I'm a little dizzy. I need to recover first.

  • replied 9 years ago

Wow is all I can say!  You have the height and model figure  to rock trendy looks like the culottes and the gilet with such aplomb.  And I quite like look #1 with the scarf - unexpected and really adds a finishing touch.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Sveta, I love the sweater and pencil skirt.  I have that same tunic sweater but it is so much longer on me - Angie pronounced it too long for a pencil skirt when I wore it that way.  But on you it's entirely different!

    Beautiful all around.

Not sure if the purple trench is S or E, but it's stunning!  And I wonder if culottes were mainstream, would they transition from one category to the other?

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you so much ladies! I am so glad that my first try for the culottes and gilet was not a disaster. :-)
Thank you for your opinion on the BF jeans roll. I was never able to get the big roll working for me and maybe I should stop trying and stick with the small roll?
I am very happy with my SSIF and NAS loot this year. At NAS I just got 3 things (gilet, plaid skinnies and striped skirt) but I love all of them.
My SSIF loot was much bigger and so far so good :-) I have got quite a few wildcards this year (plaid skinnies, gilet, culottes) so hopefully my excitements with them will last until spring and I won't want to go shopping until then <or so she promises herself>
Una, I think you are right: it is the style of the culottes which makes them a statement: if they were mainstream they might have been more of essential. I will see how easy it is to pair them with other clothes, footwear and coats: that would make a difference too.
Again  -thank you so much for your kind comments. As usual they just made my day!:-)

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

I have been waiting for someone to show off those culottes - gorgeous! I love the long vest too. You look smashing all around Sveta!

  • Laura replied 9 years ago

What great finds you have shopping your closet!!!!!! #1 & #4 look really good on  you too!

  • christieanne replied 9 years ago

    Fabulous outfits!
I love the skirt/tunic formula and it looks so comfortable. Definitely something to keep coming back to for those "unfussy" days.
On the jean roll - I am a dissenter because I like the bigger roll at first glance but when I compare the roll just has two vibes - the bigger roll is more rock n roll/RATE and the smaller roll more refined. With the purple sweater, the smaller roll seems more cohesive. If you were to switch up the under layer and do the vest and jeans (say over a black and white screen print?) you could do the larger roll for fun. You can pull it off both ways :)

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Wow, 4 gorgeous K2K looks, here! I absolutely love each of these.

    1. for the layering and color scheme

    2. for the layering on the top part is extra well proportionated for a CURRENT look o m yes. So chic and stylish! Is my fave look of all!

    3. The winte wites in true action, OMG, plonk!

    4. That gillet is AMAZING! Love the bigger rolls, they look somehow dressier, or best proportionated, dunno.

Now off to read the comments:-)

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Chiming back in to say that #3 and #4 are Killer to the power of Killer. Extra fun to have shopped with you, and seen some of the items in person.

AND great to see you sport Friday's ensemble with sass and panache. #2 is beautiful too. Those handbags were a brilliant buy last year. xo

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

    Shevia, you need those culottes!
Christieann - wow, such a detailed analysis on the jeans roll. I am blown away!
    lyn67, you are a sweetie! :-)
Angie, I would not have either those culottes nor this gilet if it was not for your gentle nudging and guidance - thank you!

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

A great set of looks here.  #1 is a pencil skirt and looser top worn to perfection.  #2 is a fun nod to a preppy look and I have also been sporting a lot of knits with a button down shirt as a layer lately.   #3 left me speechless, the color, the fit, you rock those culottes  #4 is another superb look, that gilet is a stunning piece on you.  You have some great pieces in your wardrobe, statement pieces that you are really rocking!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

    *plonk*

Sveta - your style quotient is off the charts!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Another one fainting. Wow. I love #1. What is that blue sweater??? Fab. I really enjoy all of your colour combinations. I love the lilac shirt and burgundy booties. I can't believe the culottes. Outstanding. Oh and love the gilet. Love it all, Sveta. You are truly a style icon in my eyes. Wow.

  • AviaMariah replied 9 years ago

I don't have much time to comment but I just had to join the chorus about the fab-ness of #3 and #4.  Those culottes are amazing on you!!

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

Wow - all fab!  I love the skirt and sweater outfit the best, the skirt color, matching the boots and the proportions and fluitidy are amazing!

  • Elly Heppener-Tromp replied 9 years ago

pic 4 long gillet answers my forum post on availability of fashionable long bodywarmers. Jeans look good either way rolled. But then, everything looks good on you!

  • thimblelina replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous looks sveta! I love them all. I have a serious case of khaki culotte lust for spring '15

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

I'm speechless! Stunning and gorgeous each and every outfit!

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

SVETA!!! (yes, I am screaming here: with delight!!!) You are taking my breath away, wow, such fantastic outfits!!

    - I think the sweater over the skirt works wonderfully (am taking notes, as I can never seem to get it exactly right). I also love how the colour of your awesome boots works so well with the colour of the skirt. And I’ll never stop loving that trenchcoat, such a brilliant colour. Oh, and I like it with and without the scarf (without is more minimal, it’s fun to have options, isn’t it;-)

    - Outfit 2: waving to my trouser twin. I saw these irl on you, and know how gorgeous they are on you (I like the sound of the extra length, hurrah for your very talented Mama). They look great with the red booties (you just gave me an idea: I’m going to try my trousers with my burgundy Sam Edelman booties:-), and I really like the pairing with the lilac colour. We need to find you a new lilac button-down, my friend. Oh, and that handbag was such an excellent find.

    - The culottes outit is just WOW x 1000!!! SO perfect from head to toe. I am SO glad you bought them Sveta, and of course we will not tire of seeing you rock them:-)

    - I hope you don’t mind, but I want to copy outfit 4 asap. Love how casually elegant the gilet looks paired with the turtleneck (such a fab colour on you). I like both rolls. And are those your new black booties, Sveta? They are stunning too.
