WIW: pastel with (some) black and others

The spring has teased us with the sun, blue skies and bird singing and now it is back to winter: I woke up to a couple of inches of fresh snow yesterday morning, it almost gave me a heart attack! It is bitterly cold now (it was -10C this morning and -17C with the windchill) but I believe the spring is here anyway. Why? Look what I found today in my garden - the first crocuses! (pic 6) Honestly I prefer these humble and shy flowers to the most splendid roses and orchids because they are here when I desperately need them! :-)

I wanted to do Angie's light blue, white and black ensemble from yesterday's post yesterday morning but that snow broke my plans to wear the faded jeans because I could not wear the booties I wanted in the snow. In defiance I decided to to the pastel, black and white outfit anyway so here it goes! True to my color preferences there is a lot of white here and black is represented in small doses (boots, belt, tipping of the blouse and my hair LOL).

pic 2
I was in the mood for a plaid shirt and white (yet again) but rainy weather dictated the white jeans tucked into boots. I desperately want to replace these boots with a better pair of cognac but so far no luck...

pic 3
Skirt day! It was a day before the winter came back so nude hose was pretty warm and comfortable.

pic 4
Dry  days with snow mostly gone and this called for flared leg trousers! Another soft edge outfit here - yellow makes me happy!

pic 5
Almost ink out with some stripes and red thrown in.
OK, I feel very "word-deprived" today so keeping this sweet and brief! :-)
Thank you for looking and hope you have a glorious  and warm (I wish!) spring weekend!

Yay for croci!   Boo for returning snow.

I love your 'defiant' outfit #1, very sophisticated with the blush shirt with black detailing and white culottes.

#2 I really like plaid with white and cognac and the metallic bag is unexpected.

#3 really fun pattern mix with the booties and toile top.   I think the layered shirt works well too.

#4 my favorite because of the simplicity, perfect colors, and how great those pants look on you.

#5 Also works well, although for some reason I'm picturing a white or light bag with this -- something that ties into the under-layer shirt.

Thank you rabbit. For the bag: this silver tote is my most carried bag to work as it is big enough to fit my lunch and dinner and yoga clothes. Unfortunately practical beats fashion here!

You knock it out of the park with every post Sveta! #1  may be my fav- everytime I see you in that tipped blouse I think it is absolutely stunning!

Thank you for posting a pic (#6) to remind us of what spring could look like....

  • Runcarla replied 9 years ago

Great week, Sveta! Love, love, love #4. Can you share where you got the glorious grey trousers?

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Sveta, you look fantastic as always. I certainly commiserate about the return of winter; we have the same thing. Thank goodness today there was sun at least, although we had the bitter cold.

#2 is just brilliant. I am chuckling to think you used to be a "no pants" and "no plaid" kind of woman.  ;)

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

You are a like a spring tonic. My sympathies about the weather but you still look fantastic. I especially love #4!

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

I really love what you said about crocuses :-) They ARE pretty!

And beautiful wardrobe choices although the weather sucked. I would have been a complete mess! Pastels with white and black is beautiful on you. You wear pastels well :-)

And those culottes are such a workhorse for you! Fab all around!

  • abc replied 9 years ago

2 and 5 are my favorites. Sending warm weather your way!!

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

The pastel with black is striking me as really fresh. Also, I like the plaid and black.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Well I was about to say that #1 was my fav, then #2, then #3, so OK, they all are fantastic! And say what? You have crocuses coming up? Not here - the only ones I saw were at the flower show I went to yesterday (indoors, it was actually snowing outside)!

  • frannieb replied 9 years ago

hehe - I had to laugh at dressing in defiance of the winter. I think we all get there at some point.
#4 is my favorite - that shade of yellow is amazing on you.
Love that your colors are pastels and white with black as a accent. Very fresh.

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

You always look fantastic, and you wear culottes to perfection. I especially love #4 and 5...and the signs of emerging spring!

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

love #6, so lovely to see the flowers coming up…
and you had a great week too. like #3 for the unexpected mix of grays, (which seem, at least in the pictures, to have a slight lavender undertone).

  • Daria replied 9 years ago

Sveta - I really like both outfits with white pants (although snow wouldn\'t have prevented me from wearing booties :)). #4 with soft lines is gorgeous too.

  • fathenry replied 9 years ago

Really like #4, where did you find The pants and sweater?

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Those white, yellows and light blues really make your outfits killer springy, Sveta! All are so great jobs, but I think 2 would be  Angie's fave!

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

So enamored with 1, 2 and 5, Sveta, and I adore your attitude as you brace for the changes in weather in your parts.  Then, to see that lovely crocus and what a color!  When I first read your great post, I'm thinking yellow or white and then up pops this gorgeous purple.

Sending sunny, warm days your way!

  • Louise replied 9 years ago

Fab as always. I'd love to have a mooch through your closet you have such amazing clothes and accessories x

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Sue, this tipped blouse does remind me of our time together in Toronto! :-)
Carla and fathenry. the trousers from #2 are Editors from Express. I got them 3 years ago so exactly the same model is not available anymore but these may be similar. The yellow sweater is JCrew Tippi and it is in my finds above.
Suz, you can chuckle all you want and I am sure Angie will chuckle with you
     :-)
Shevia, frannieb, Janet, kkards, lyn67 - thank you!
Neel, culottes were not just workhorses but lifesavers (or rather style-sanity savers) through the winter.
abc, if we can get a bit of glorious Mexican weather it would be perfect!
rachy, actually the blazer in #2 is navy, not black :-)
Karie, I have been looking for the first crocuses every day for the last 2 weeks since it began to warm up. Even though it was above freezing for days and no new snow old snow was staying for a very long time. It is very weird this year: the snow does not melt at all but just evaporates. I guess we have such unusually  low humidity and very low night temperatures for snow to melt.
Daria, my light colored booties do not have a slip resistant soles and therefore I do not wear them in the slippery weather.
Louise, you are welcome to come and have a go at my closet :-)
Vicki, I have white and yellow crocuses too but they are not out yet. I decided to buy a huge bag of early spring bulbs this fall and plant them in mass near the house - I really NEED them at this time of the year!

  • celia replied 9 years ago

Yay for the first glimpses of spring in the garden!
All your outfits are great as usual. My favourite is #2, because it's crisp, half spring half winter.
#1 is such a pleasant outfit to look at , very beautiful.

  • Daria replied 9 years ago

Sveta -  back in Montreal it always amazed me how many women were sporting high-heel boots in winter - I could never do it! I however do pretty well in booties  and even carry my (not always cooperating and very heavy) 2 year old. :) I guess it all depends on specific footware and your commute. (Sorry for OT :)).

  • crutcher replied 9 years ago

The crocus always symbolize hope that the long and cold winter will be coming to an end...I love outfits 1, 2, 4...The citron and grey is TDF and you really rock the coulottes...Happy waiting for spring...

  • Hilary replied 9 years ago

I particularly like outfit #2- you look great

  • Laurie replied 9 years ago

Love #1 - built a travel capsule for this week around blush, black, white, blue and grey centered on the BR fold over clutch in blush with a black strap.  This solidifies my direction!

  • Deb replied 9 years ago

So immaculate as always Sveta. I especially like the style and colour combinations of #1,2,4 and 5 today. May the spring come to Ontario very soon!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Celia, crutcher, Hilary - thank you.
Daria, I cannot wear high heels even in the best weather conditions :-( I just do not feel confident in slippery booties on the icy walks.
Laurie, your travel capsule sounds great, I wish you have a post with it.
DEB, unfortunately your wish about Ontario spring did not materialized: I woke up to a real snowfall this morning, the kind when you need to shovel your driveway! :-(
