WIW: my dressy week...almost

Our first serious snow came over the last weekend and stayed through the week. I worked from home on Monday (unlike Suz I don't really want to share my work from home outfits :-( )
This was my mostly "dressy" week - because I wore mostly dresses. As you see I was on the team "not changing the bags" this week - used my silver Danier tote every single day...

I wore these tall boots for the first time in the snow and discovered that I did not change the worn heels in the spring - boo! Had to get them to the cobbler ASAP...
MK cobalt / black dress: it is so short I can wear it with skinnies only
NYDJ ponte pants from Angie's NAS picks: they are really great. I wore them 3-4 times already and there is no bagging!
Blondo tall boots.

Another cold and snowy day so sweater dress feels the right fit.

GAP sweater dress
Born combat boots - NAS

I have this black ponte sheath dress since 2010 and still love it. The only issue is that the neckline is pretty low for me so I have either layer something under the dress if I intend to take the topper off. However I love this origami neckline so much it makes up for this issue!

Tahari black ponte sheath - Winners
Danier white moto jacket
Orhid turtleneck - Banana Republic
Purple Naya booties and purple tights

-10C in the morning so I ditched the idea of wearing a dress I planned the night before and went with a chunky sweater and combat boots for the traction on the ice. Well, I was not really thrilled with the result. I think this outfit requires more refined booties. I will not wear it like this again! It was comfortable and warm but I cringed when I saw this picture...:-(

This was my short-er week - thanks for looking! Any comments and suggestions are very much appreciated as usual.

Well, even your cringe-worthy outfit looks pretty good, so I'd say you get an A for this week's outfits. My favorite is the first one because it is so strong and sleek, much like the Flavia-inspired outfits that Ornella has been showcasing this week.

  • celia replied 10 years ago

The 3 first outfits are fabulous .I find it interesting that #1 &2 are more streamlined than 3.Do you feel that your style has moved in that direction ?(Maybe you have talked about this before and I just missed it)

The last outfit is a great outfit, it just seems more casual to my eye than the other ones.

  • Kristin L replied 10 years ago

I don't see anything cringe-worthy in #5. It's much more casual than the others, but it still looks great on you. The first 3-4 look great!

  • minimalist replied 10 years ago

Comfortable, warm, and *safe on the ice* is smug-smile-worthy, plus it looks good in a casual way.

But I really do want to see your work-from-home pics. ;-) I'm working on homewear capsules atm, and taking pics (at least of outfits laid out) would help to identify a) what's really happening, and b) what's still missing.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Wow, I actually like #5. So I don't know what that makes me....but I hear you on the booties. It is probably more how it feels than how it looks, though, quite honestly...

LOVE #1. For all the reasons Gaylene said.

That GAP dress was a great purchase as well. You have already worn it quite a lot.

All of these are great, but #1 is my favorite... chic, sophisticated and very beautiful.  I also like #5.  Perhaps more refined booties might look... well, more refined... but sometimes we have to be practical.  I think the proportions in #5 are excellent.

#1 is perfect - that blue looks amazing on you. I don't think there are any fails here - you just have very high standards :)

I'm sighing in contentment over the blue striped dress. So pretty! I think the last outfit is AWESOME for a snowy day, boot included. And the white jacket is such a bright pop of white in your deep outfit. So fab! You look great Sveta.

  • Peri replied 10 years ago

That's funny, because I was picking 5 as a favorite and then read your discontent with it. I still think it looks good, and my other favorite is 4.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Well, I like all of these, even #5 - not cringe worthy at all! My favorite is #1.

  • dustt replied 10 years ago

Sveta - you look so great in color blocks!! - #1 reminds me a bit of the oh-so-fabulous cream & black dress with the ivory t-neck that I'm still trying to figure out how to do myself!! - and as for #5 - not cringe-worthy in the least - here's what I see - a fabulous neck on that sweater it shows off your beautiful neck - really well fitting jeans - and the cherry on top........ those RED LIPS!! - bravo

not to worry - I know you'll find your perfect refine black bootie soon

  • Debora replied 10 years ago

Sveta, I am swooning over outfit #1! You looking amazing in cobalt and I love the color blocking. The other three outfits are equally fab. Love the neckline on your sheath.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I only made it to the first outfit before I had to comment. What a spectacular simple and graphic look. Love you in cobalt and black. Glad the pants are behaving and earning their keep.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

Wow, Sveta!  Your outfit posts are always a treat and this is no exception!  I love the purple booties and tights in #3-4, but I must say my favorite is #5!  Cringe no more, my beautiful casual friend!  :)

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Thank you! It is interesting that you don't think #5 was a failure...maybe it is just does not feel like me to myself? :-)
Celia, I do think I like streamlined outfits more and more, it is definitely a shift from just 2 years ago.
Amy K, believe me you do not want to see my home outfits: this is something I still need to work on to reach Suz's level!
Just for the record I do have more refined booties I could wear in #5 BUT they are not best for cold and ice! I did not feel like changing at work that day so they had to be Borns where I could add sheepskin insole for warmth and which have good traction!
    Caro, very high standards indeed!
Dustt, I think I will wear my white and black dress this week just for you :-)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

I love the first tunic/dress and you look stunning in the white leather jacket. Great week!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

#1 is my favorite, too.  I also needed to see it, because I was beginning to wonder if layering skinnies under dresses was "over."  Your look is quite modern and stunning!

As for #1 -- I think this would look terrific with your red munro's (bootie twins!).  Do you have the snakeskin booties, I think they were Pettys?  They'd be glorious here, too.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You look wonderful all week.  My favorites are 1 and 5.  On a cold day, especially if snowy, the rugged boots look appropriate.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

A fanastic week of outfits!  Number 1 is my favorite!

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Loving the way you have layered under the LBD, and the purple is so lovely.
Goes without saying that I adore your blue knit dress too!

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Great week Sveta! I love it all!!! YLF and are always an inspiration!
    Thanx for posting!

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

I like this week's outfits, and I can see why you didn't swap bags, it goes very well with each look, probably because metallics work as great neutrals.  I don't mind outfit #5, the boots here give it a rugged vibe although I can see why you wouldn't care for the look, there is no crisp element in that outfit.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Shevia, Joy, Tracey, Lyn D and lyn67 - thanks!
Beth Ann, this dress is more like a tunic so it works with skinny pants:otherwise I would not be able to wear it at all because it is too short! As for my python booties for #5 - they would look terrific but they are literally killers on ice and snow - no traction whatsoever :-(
Lisa, you have a point - #5 may be not bad but it feels the least like myself...

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

    What a great style week.
    # 1 is divine-- the colors and blocking are made for you.
I like your use of color with the purple top and tights- I'm trying to find the best ways I can work in burgundy tights.
