WIW: My casual layered pastels and the moment of truth!

When I saw Kimbely's outfit Inge posted this week I was immediately smitten with it. Such a pretty and soft look - the epitome of a 'soft edge"!
Happily I realized that I can create a similar soft look with items already in my closet. I wanted to do it there and then but circumstances were against it so I had to wait until today when I wore it to work.
I was able to keep the colors pretty much the same as in the inspiration outfit but the top and scarf color reversed. This faux-Burberry plaid scarf was a lucky find in The Bay from this weekend. I was under the influence of Angie's travel outfit posts admiring this new coral scarf of hers when I was crossing The Bay with some returns and happened to pass the scarf section - and there was a coral scarf which reminded me of Angie's so of course I had to stop and try it on. I liked the color but it was 100% poly - not something I would like in a summer scarf...
...and then my eye caught this blue plaid number. I was looking for the pastel blue scarf for some time now and this one seemed perfect and exactly the right shade of blue. It was 100% gauzy and lightweight cotton too and the blue color was only one on sale! Of course it  came home with me.
So this newly bought scarf was the trigger point for creating this outfit. Paired with JCrew pink mixed media tee  it was a complete reverse of Kimberly's pink scarf / blue top combo but I think it still works.
The rest was easy in my head: Gap resolution jeans (look how REALLY cropped they are on me LOL), white Zara jacket and old Franco Sarto nude cage sandals were pretty close to the inspiration outfit so this is what I went to work in today (pic 1-2)

It so happened that I was not able to take the pictures until I got home in the evening. - and then came the moment of truth - or rather two of them:
1. I don't really care for skinny jeans with shorter tops- especially from behind. Does not matter the lost weight I still have curves in places which do not look good in this combination. I also find that together with the cropped length they make my legs look short. All in all not something I want to repeat. (pic 3) From now on skinnies are only with longer tops for me!
2. The second moment of truth was related to my beloved dove grey satchel. I suddenly realized from pic 4 how saggy it looks and began to investigate. Apparently the bag I got was defective  - there is a piece missing on one side of the top part between the handles. I have checked my black bag of the same style which does not sag  - and of course it has these hard pieces on both sides!  The sag was not as obvious before but most likely became more pronounced with the wear <sob>
I am going to take this bag to Danier. Even though I bought it 1.5 years ago it is clearly defective with a missing piece. Hopefully Danier will stand behind their product and can replace it or repair it - wish me luck!

Gorgeous, Sveta! Love this head to toe. You look beautiful in pastels!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

This outfit is beautiful on you, one of your best. The scarf was a wonderful find. I hope that Danier will stand behind their bag.

Nice copy cat look! I feel the same about wearing longer tops with skinnies.

That's too bad about the missing piece on your bag. Hopefully Danier will work with you.

I get it- but the colour combo is super!

What an absolutely fabulous version of Kimberly's outfit! I think you look great Sveta (I see no problem with the rear view either). The colour combo is gorgeous and that new scarf...wow.

What a shame about your bag. I do see the sagging. I hope Danier can do something for you.

I love this look on you  - I am surprised at just how well you wear pastels! I always think pastels are for blondes - you just proved that wrong :)
I see nothing wrong with the skinnies and shorter top - I think you look chic all over, even the rear view.

It's gorgeous, Sveta. Perfect combination and styling --- head to toe. I love how all these pieces of pastels come together for such a stunning look!

I can see how the bag sags. What a shame. I hope you'll get a replacement or repair for it because it's kind of hard to miss. Best of luck.

I can clearly see the influence from Kimberly's outfit.  Well done.  I love this color scheme on you also.  I don't see short legs, there is just no way you ever look short, anywhere.

The colour combination is absolutely lovely. The jeans are cropped on you, with your super long legs! I think they fit you really nicely, however, and I don't think you have too many curves at all.

  • Janet replied 8 years ago

I agree with Denise. This is a natural color combination on you, and the proportions look just fine. Believe me, it would be hard to make your legs look short. Absolutely nothing wrong with the rear view. If I fretted the rear view, I would never go out of the house!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Sveta, you are way too hard on yourself! I see nothing wrong with the proportions here at all! And the rear view is great! I am smiling, too -- those Resolution jeans are full length for me, for sure....I have to roll them (or get them altered) if I want a cropped look! I am the one who needs to worry about short legs here, woman!

I love the new scarf -- so pretty and a useful item for sure. This colour combo is really fresh and summery on you. It's a terrific outfit.

As for the bag, here is one case where duplication of an item may work strongly in your favour. If you get any argument from Danier, you can show them the other bag for comparison. I hope their customer service is helpful! I expect they will be.

The soft pastels look wonderful on you and the feel of the outfit is so calm and peaceful. And I think you can totally pull off the shorter top with the skinnies.

That's really too bad about the bag!

This colour grouping is really lovely on you!  I don't see anything "off" in terms of leg length or proportion or an odd back view - I think this is a really nice business casual look for you!! Too bad about the bag - and frustrating not to have seen this earlier, isn't it?

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

I think this outfit is lovely, Sveta.  The colours are so relaxing :)  I don't see anything "off", but I do think that we notice things about ourselves others don't, rightly or wrongly.   And once noticed, they are hard to shake.  I know I've made some style or pairing shifts based on similar observations.  Oh, the power of photos!

I really hope Danier can do something about the bag.  I assume it's no longer available?

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Beautiful outfit head to toe - and the jeans look great on you Sveta. The plaid scarf was a wonderful find too, love it with this outfit and I can see the inspiration from Kimberly's outfit.

I think this looks great on you!  I love the soft colors and your new blue scarf.  The shirt looks plenty long enough for the skinnies to me.  When I read your post before looking at the photos, I thought you were talking short, like waist length, but this top is not short to my eye.

  • Daria replied 8 years ago

Sveta, you wear pastels extremely well. I'm guessing scarf plays a role in balancing it all out with your skin tone. And proportions look good to me - I think you are being too harsh on yourself. :)

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

    That scarf is fantastic!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 8 years ago

This is fantastic, Sveta, all of it.

Thank you all for the moral "rear view" boost today! :-) At least you put my mind at ease that I did not look as bad as I thought.
Lucy,  up until several years ago I thought I cannot wear pastels at all but then I tried them, liked them and never looked back :-)
Denise - he-he, you are right - there is no part to me which is short :-)
Janet, you are right of course :-)
Suz - right, I thought yours would  be full length :-) Yeah, I am going to take both bags to Danier to show the difference.
Lisa, the worst thing that I saw it but ignored. I just did not see that the reason for that was the missing piece. It was very slight sag in the beginning and I did not want to bother...now I wish I did!
Elizabeth, you know me too well! :-) It is hard to say if this bag is still available as their website is awful as you know. Most probably not...

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

This is gorgeous on you from every angle! Good luck with Danier - I always admired that bag on you.

  • replied 8 years ago

You know though..... bags look great when they are worn in a bit and slouchy. I would not have ever noticed had you not mentioned it .

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

Sveta, you look fabulous from all sides, and the soft color mix is so light and pretty. Love the look!

  • abc replied 8 years ago

Love these soft colors on you. I see no issue with the rear view at all!

    Good luck with the bag.

  • Adelfa replied 8 years ago

You are dreamy in the soft colors. (I too have been going softer in my palette, hope I look nearly as good as you!) I don't see any problems with proportion or curves at all. Not at all. I looked at all the pictures three times, too!
