WIW: inspired by Angie's posts, constrained by the the Arctic Vortex...

Is there any end to this winter? It is going to be -24C Monday morning and it is March 3! The spring is definitely got lost somewhere. I read in the local newspaper that our city snow removal activity was already 25% over the average yearly budget in February. It is really a brutal winter...but I saw robins in the park today so spring should not be far behind! :-)

I have received my JCrew order and now I can give a try to this ensemble. I was a bit hesitant to order a yellow sweater on final sale when I did not see the color in person but I risked it and I think it works - what do you think?

I guess I was in a mood for brighter colors this week to fight the winter gloom.
This red tunic just filled the bill.

I have already posted this outfit as an illustration of a disastrous implementation of Angie's formula. The sweater is fluid enough but the weight is very thin so it clings a lot to the shirt. It drove me crazy all day to adjust it and I will not be wearing these Tippi sweaters layered over shirts again. I will stick to wearing them on their own or layering them under toppers which they are great for being lightweight and having 3/4 sleeves.

This JCrew sweater was a much bigger risk than a yellow one: at least for Tippi I was sure about the size and style. This cashmere framed long sleeve tee  in heather pebble was a complete wild card for me. Not sure about size, not sure about style, have no idea what this color really is (beige? blush? stone? totally not a color I usually wear) and final sale. Can it get any crazier than that?
Well it came and I think it is a winner. The cashmere  is nice and lightweight, the size is just right for a fluid fit and I love the black piping. I am still not sure what this color is - pinky beige? barely blush? - but I don't think it is too horrid on me and I like it with whites and light neutrals like taupe and grey. I think it will also work with black and I just love my dove satchel with it. What do you think?

Another FFBO for the arctic vortex of skinnies tucked into tall boots and a tunic. This is an exact repeat of what I wore before but if it works why change -right?

This was my week at a glance. As usual any comments and suggestions are very welcome.
Have a nice week!

Sveta, you look wonderful in yellow! I love both 1 and 3, but my favorite of the week is 4. WOW! Your wild card is a winner.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 10 years ago

I love them all! You look amazing!! My personal favorite is #5 but they are really all equally fabulous. :-)

  • rabbit replied 10 years ago

You look fantabulous.  Love them all, but my favorites are the new sweater ensemble in no. 4 and the tunics in 2 and 5.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Winter. Winter. Winter. More Winter.  Sigh.

You are looking ready for spring, however, particularly in #1 and #4.  Stunning.

I'm ready to celebrate the arrival of spring with a bonfire of puffers and boots.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

I love the graphic nature of all these outfits. It really suits you. I am particularly fond of the gray white and yellow ensemble. I love that color combo and you wear it well. The proportions are perfect on all of these.

  • JamC replied 10 years ago

I really like the sweater in 4.  The minimal piping adds structure and interest.  The color is calming.

  • replied 10 years ago

Sveta, you look superb in all of these.

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

I love how your new yellow sweater combines with and warms up the grey blazer and pants. At least you can LOOK like spring! The geometric figures on your second JCrew sweater suit your style well. Aren't you glad you bought the dove grey bag? It integrates so beautifully into your wardrobe!

Oooh! Your wild card is the sister to my new J. Crew super oversized sweater! I, too, am in love with that tipping detail -- it is the kind of pattern that suits our style very, very well. And I think it is absolutely stunning on you. Love it!!! That is my favourite outfit of the entire week. But you look sensational in all of these.

It looks like the yellow sweater is helping that Gibson jacket to get more wear. You have been doing much better with that jacket this year in terms of wear than last year, I think?

Wow -- Love them all - that yellow sweater is such a winner, and makes me want to don my yellow jeans this morning.

  • leopardluxe replied 10 years ago

These all look fantastic on you and the shade of yellow in the tee and sweater is very flattering to your skin tone. I especially love outfit #2 with the graphic red tunic. Very mod/bold (perfect for counteracting the cold & gloomy weather!)

  • MRL replied 10 years ago

All of the looks are so great it's hard to choose a favorite, but I do favor #4.

  • Helena replied 10 years ago

These are all terrific!! I especially love you in the cobalt and black. They are all gorgeous though!

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

That sweater in #4 is beautiful on you Sveta - what a great find! I love the entire outfit and really ALL of the outfits but #4 stands out to me in particular.

  • JAileen replied 10 years ago

You look great in all of them. I really like #1.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Great yellow color, how fun that the gamble paid off.  And it's nice to see the Gibson blazer in action.  It works really well both with the yellow color and the grey in the booties.

  • Catnip replied 10 years ago

Sveta, these are all great.  I'm struggling to chose a winner, and cannot decide between 1, 4 and 5.  You look terrific in yellow, and the wild card has so much style!

    As always, you look wonderful!

  • celia replied 10 years ago

You are fighting the polar vortex brilliantly. All fabulous outfits.
I hadn't seen the other post but I like your rendition of Angie's boxy shirt under boxy sweater ensemble , I guess it all comes down to how comfortable you feel in it.
Although it is not one of your usual colours I think # 3 works very well and I love the way the colour of the bag complements the pants.
My favourite of the week might be #1, you managed to bring spring to us.

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

Love 1 & 4.  Total on line shopping win!  You wear that yellow shade so well.  I know what you mean about wearing the shirt under the sweater.  Drives me nuts too.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I really like all these.  I like the yellow and grey combo in #1 and #3.  That soft yellow looks especially good with grey.  I LOVE the new sweater in #4.  It makes me want to check out J. Crew sales now.  I can see how the sweater and the shirt are fighting in #3.  Which is too bad because I like the combo otherwise.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

SarahTheWhite, Ceit, torontogirl - thank you!
Joy, rabbit, JamC, MRL, texstyle, Sara L - thanks for validation of my "wild" card. That was really a gamble for me and even on sale and with extra 40% off it was still $80+ sweater and a risk for a final sale. I was especially nervous because I tried to order another blush sweater form JCrew which looked a similar fit and it was awful on me. I am really happy this gamble was a success!
DV, grey and yellow (as well as grey and pink ) are among my favorite color combinations. I really needed to add more pink and yellow items to my wardrobe becasue I did not have many of those.
Celia and Beth  Ann, we need that spring, don't we? I am so tired of winter and ready for that bonfire!
Windchime, I am happy I kept the both bags and I really love this dove grey color. Actually I think it is flattering for my as well so I am on the lookout for clothing in this particular shade of grey now!
Amy, let's see those yellow jeans in action! :-)
Suz, you are right that this tipping is a good thing for us. It adds a restrained graphic impact which we appreciate so much, don't we? And both you and Lisa are right that now with my yellow and lilac Tippi sweaters my grey Gibson gets a new lease of life.
LL, JAileen, Catnip, AviaMariah - thank you for validating that this yellow works for me. Yellow is a tricky color for me to wear so I did not have any until last year. Now I ma slowly finding the flattering ones and ading them in because this color just makes me happy.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Despite the never ending winter, you look fantastic. I am really partial to the citron on you. The color both looks fab and is such a wonderful injection of spring on these cold days.

  • Pat Chenell replied 10 years ago

Weighing in late, but I have to say that I too love #4. The black edge detail really grounds the sweater, sort of like what a single black accent piece does for a "beigy" room. The silver hardware on your belt and satchel are just enough bling to keep the look chic. Nice! I like #3 too, except for as you noted, the clingy sweater.... that would be very annoying and unflattering!

And dastardly Polar Vortex be gone with you! I hope Mother Nature gets the memo about spring in time to sync with the calendar!!

  • greenglove replied 10 years ago

Ravishing in every picture- love the grey and yellow on you!

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

Geez Sveta, you look amazing !!  I like the yellow and imagine it with the longer days even though it is freezing.  Your are the crocus peering out into the longer lasting sunshine.  ( OMG,  I had a lame Shakespeare moment !  )

My favorites are 2,4,5,  those are 10s to me.  The other two are 9.5s.

    XXXXXXXXX

  • LoriFLA replied 10 years ago

All are so nice! The citron is totally working on you. I love the shoes in #1. I cannot pick a favorite-- all are so stylish and flatter your great figure beautifully.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

As I've already mentioned:-) I think this shade of yellow really works on you, Sveta, so glad you took a chance on this Tippi sweater! I really love how you've paired it with greys and white here. And I have a feeling it will become very versatile. Sorry to hear the white shirt frustrated you all day though. Perhaps someone has already suggested it, but have you tried it with a silk shirt instead of a stiff cotton one? If you button up the shirt all the way, you can achieve a similar look, I think. And of course the sweater will work splendidly with a lot of your jackets, so it's a win already.

Also love the blush sweater with tipping detail on you. It's a different fit than the Tippi so I completely get that it was a bit of a gamble, but you won again. Fit is perfect and I love the graphic integrity of it. Hurrah for two perfect new additions to your wardrobe.

And how you rock a tunic, wow. Both the red one and blue-black colour-blocked one are brilliant on you. Another excellent and super stylish week.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Chiming in quickly to say that I'm even more impressed with your killer style knowing that you dress like this in arctic temperatures. You are Sensational Sveta.

And the wild card is my best. xo

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

You look as happy as a little spring lark in that yellow! Thank you thank you thank you Sveta for the color today. Can you guess the only outfit that I think is underwhelming on you? You look fab, as always and forever.

  • Makrame replied 10 years ago

You look great (in spite of the weather)!

I am doing a copycat of your #1 today after reading your post in the morning, except that I did not have anything in yellow (I love your pairing yellow with white and grey) so I had to change the color scheme a bit (cream jeans, burgundy Gibson balzer, cream top).

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

Wow, you look great in all of these! I envy your attention to detail, your polished look, and the excellent fit of your clothes. And I'm totally envying your metallic tote!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

    Thank you , ladies!
Pat, I think this pale sweater would create quiet a different look without the black tipping. I fell in love with this particular detail enough to risk the final sale!
Isabel, you are so poetic (I cannot wait for those crocuses to appear; alas we have 3 feet of snow on the ground now so it is still a long way fro them).
Inge, I am glad you got to see those sweaters in action - after all you were their fairy godmother :-) I will Tippis try with silk-y shirt but I am fine to wear them on their own.
Angie - thanks. I am so tired of this endless winter, this is my rebellion I guess.
Karen, I guess you mean the neutral outfit? I really like to swing from colors to neutrals to match my mood...
Makrame, that sounds really nice with burgundy blazer.
Gigi, I cannot believe that I was not sure if I should to keep that silver tote or is it too bright! I love it!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous in grey and yellow and I love the sweater with piping also. The artic vortex is no match for you!

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

The wild card is my hands down favorite. You have impeccable style, Sveta. I love all of these!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

OMG, #2 knocked me flat.  And #4 is my next fave.  That tunic is so beautiful on you though - I don't think I've ever seen you in that red and it loves you!

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

I am honoured to be their fairy godmother :-))

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

A week of winning outfits! While I don't like #3 as much as #1, I don't think it was a failure either. The wild card sweater is my hands-down favorite. You took a risk and it paid off - that sweater is gorgeous and looks phenomenal on you!

And I hear you on the cold weather - we're stuck in the polar vortex here too. Since March came in like a lion, it sure as h - e - double toothpicks better go out like a lamb :)
