WIW: dark red with light blue and others...

pic 1 Dark Red and Light Blue
This morning ensemble post inspired me to dig in my closet in search of dark red and light blue! My light blue selection is pretty limited as it was less than a year ago I discovered that it actually suits me and began to add it to my wardrobe. Interestingly I always knew that dark deep red suits me but somehow it mostly evaded me so I was not sure if I can use the formula today. Then I remember that I do have a dark red dress  - I usually wear it in cool weather but this summer is cool enough.
Remembering Aida's rebellious outfit with midi wide culottes, longer fluid sweater and flats I decided to rebel to and added my oversized faded denim moto (light blue!) and flat  leopard loafers to continue the cognac theme from the belt. I may be kidding myself but I thought it is just flattering enough and felt good all day!

pic 2 Navy Stripes and Shades of White
I am so happy I got this Zara cream jacket as Angie's shameless copycat - I love it so much! Ideally I would like it to be a bit longer but I found that I like this length paired with longer tops and pants - or with dresses and skirts.

pic 3-4 Blushing Tuxedo
I really like the tapering  we did for these tuxedo window pane trousers. They were supposed to be slim fit but I sized up and got them tapered for a completely different look. I prefer this outfit sans jacket but I need a topper for  my A/C office. What do you think of this pairing of faded denim biker and these trousers and shirt?

pic 5 Plaid and Mesh
I bought this mesh polka dot sweater in Madewell several years ago and this summer I have not worn it at all. I decided to wear it this day - and it went to the Goodwill bag in the end of the day. The mesh is too large, the length is too long (awkward to semi tuck), the sleeves stretch out during the day and I do not feel fab in it. I think it looks better in the picture than IRL - out!

pic 6 Bright blue, ink and polka dots
I wanted to wear my polka dot midi flared skirt AND bright blue Zara blazer this day. I was not sure which top to layer under the jacket and was considering white but in the end decided to go with ink linen tee (waving to Suz). The tee is pretty oversized and not welted so I twisted one side and semi-tucked it to get more structure.

This was my week at a glance - thanks for looking and as usual all comments and suggestions are much appreciated.
Have a great weekend and enjoy summer until it is over!

You look fab in those outfits, Sveta! #1 is my absolute fave. You wear that shade of red very well!

  • Jules replied 9 years ago

I feel like you have an endless supply of visual treats for us! Always with new variations in silouhette and colour. I like all of these. The only thing I might suggest is a lighter shoe with the red dress outfit - would love to see it with the shoes from #5.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Your outfits delight me. I felt that each one was my favorite this week. The one I'd most like in my own closet is #3. The soft blush and grey version of sporty lux and the lovely little sling back heels are so beautifully done.

These are so gorgeous!  Your WIWs are always inspiring.

  • abc replied 9 years ago

You always look polished and elegant.

  • carolbee replied 9 years ago

Sveta, I love all of these, you always look fabulous, but #2 is wow!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

ah, the weekend is here and another feast for the eyes arrives in the form of Sveta's stunning outfits. Every one of these is sensational. I can't pick a favourite.

Jealous that you managed to put Angie's formula together so quickly yesterday and what a fun combination!

#2 is just WOW on you -- so dramatic and elegant.

#3 is soft, fluid, yet sharp enough still to be you with the tipping in the blouse and the stripe down the trouser echoing one another.

#4 I am sad to see that sweater go because it adds such fun textural interest but if it is not working and makes you feel unfab, it is best to make room for something wonderful. Those are the kind of purchase "mistakes" that we just can't predict in advance; we need to wear the item long enough to know that it bothers us, alas.

    #5 LOVE!!

  • Jjsloane replied 9 years ago

I love your take on the combo in #1 and I'm blown away by 5 and 6. Who knew plaid jeans could look so good and be so versatile? The sweater does look good in photos, a shame it's not IRL. Lovely week for you!

  • frannieb replied 9 years ago

    So i love every outfit.
#1 is my absolute favorite and I love how you tailored the pants in picture 3 and 4

  • Runcarla replied 9 years ago

Wow! Sveta, you nailed the dark red/pale blue beautifully! Love #6 very much, but I have a sugar eye for this full skirt profile. The plaid jeans are so much fun and are turning out so versatile. Love your weekly WIW posts.

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

Wow-wow-wow! All these outfits are beautiful on you. The red dress really suits your coloring and I can't get over how you matched your lipstick shade to the dress so beautifully - a very cohesive look with the surprise of the rebellious jacket. The white pants outfit leaves me speechless! The blush blouse has such beautiful piping details and drapes perfectly with the semi tuck, I like your bookending it with your pumps. I lust after your knit moto jacket every time I see it every time I see it ;) I adore the mesh sweater! It immediately caught my eye as it provides a very interesting textural and color effect with your shirt... I wish you were keeping it, but if it "grows" and bothers you while wearing it, well then, parting with it is the right choice. The column of black pairing is also outstanding specially with the added drama of the blue jacket. You a're an inspiration!

What a great -looking week you had!  I love your closet - and how you use your clothes.  What I like about this week is that every outfit is different, yet you.   I am also sorry the Madewell sweater isn't right because it is such a cool piece and looks excellent with the plaid jeans.  But I know how it is with growing sleeves and stretching and general knit misery :)

I keep looking back at the photos and honestly cannot pick a favourite. You look proportioned, coloured and styled to perfection in each one!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 9 years ago

I love them all Sveta but the last one is swoon worthy.  I don't even know why I love it but have gone back to look at it a few times.  Perhaps the ladylike skirt with the asymetrical jacket.  Love it.

The sheer top with the plaid skinnies is a close second for me.  You look good in so many shapes and styles.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 9 years ago

I love everything you post! You have fantastic style and I enjoy how many different looks you can pull off while still looking completely you! Amazing... My personal favorite is #5. You and Suz are killing me with these pants. I would have never guessed how many choices there are for a pair of plaid pants!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Sveta, each time you post - you look MORE elegant, beautiful, and stylish. Truly. And your poses are fabulous. I vote killer week.

LOVE #1. What a great take on yesterday's outfit formula. But I can't pick a fave. All so gorgeous. You shine from the inside out, Svetlana. xo

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you so much for you kind words!
Jules, I tried my silver pimps with this outfit but I liked the leopard loafers better for some reason - especially with this belt.
Suz, this is so true about purchase mistakes. I still love the color of this mesh sweater and how polka dots play against the white background but I am bot happy with the overall shape: too long and welt on the bottom does not have enough structure: I cannot pull it up. If I could shorten it it may be staying but it is impossible with sweaters...
Jjsloane, it is amazing. When I looked at the online picture of those plaid jeans I was sure it will not keep them - but they look amazing IRL and prove to be very versatile!
He-he Gracie, I did not match the lipstick really - this is the one I was able to find in the morning :-( -  but it must show how well this shade of red suits me :-)
Angie - thank you. You make me blush. You definitely should get credit for #1 with your blog post!

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

Great outfits all around, but I especially like the first and the last. The dark red looks like it's just made for you, and something about that polka dot skirt is so playful and feminine.

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

Sveta, you radiate elegance, no matter what you wear and this week certainly proves it!

#1 Adding your leopard flats to Angie's dark red/light blue ensemble is brilliant.

#2 This is a WOW for me; love that jacket on you.

#3, 4 & 5 I love blush and neutral colors on you so much, again, letting your radiance shine.  I see why you don't want a topper as I like it that way, too, but A/C often dictates layering.

#6 A twist and a semi-tuck for structure!  I must try this excellent idea, Sveta.  This is another favorite.  Is this an ink skirt?

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

I absolutely love #1 on you and the rest of the week is fab too. Light blue is an excellent color on you!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Vicki, the skirt is black and white and the tee is ink - it is hard to see dark colors well on the computer.
    Aubergine and Shevia - thanks!

  • krishnidoux replied 9 years ago

My, are you ever so elegant!
My favorites: 2-3 and 6. Although they ALL look good.

  • Colette replied 9 years ago

I'm very inspired by you. I was not loving dark red with light blue until I saw your first outfit. You look wonderful in all of your outfits!

It's funny you mentioned you are giving away the mesh sweater from pic 5, because when I looked at your picture I thought that sweater looked great layered over the white shirt. (I was thinking I also have a mesh sweater that I have a difficult time styling and this may be my answer.)

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

I was thinking exactly the same thing as Angie: your style quotient is through the roof, Sveta, and you look stunning, elegant and absolutely fantastic in all these outfits.

The shorter length Zara jacket looks brilliant with the longer navy striped top (stunning). And the combination with the trousers is beautiful.

I'm still so thrilled you kept the blush J.Crew shirt. It's fantastic on you, and looks beautiful with the tapered trousers (that was an excellent decision). Totally fab with the faded denim jacket too.

And boy, you are really rocking those plaid skinny jeans!! They have turned out to be super versatile already, haven't they? I really love them with the white shirt under the mesh sweater, and the loafers are the perfect finishing touch. But good decision: if the sweater isn't working out for you, then out it goes;-)

  • Reneeb replied 9 years ago

Wow they are all lovely but 5/6 are stunning. I love all the outfits you have posted with the plaid skinnies. Are the silver flats comfortable?

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

These are all knocking it out of the park.  The plaid skinnies are wonderful on you.  And the last outfit is like something from another era brought forward to today.  I love it on you.

  • Ingunn replied 9 years ago

I'm amazed at your coherent and effortless style. Sveta. Never overdone or forced, always elegant and great looking. It's very hard to choose a favorite, but I think #1 and #5 are mine this time. The drape of the skirts, the silhouette, the colors - all gorgeous. I love your rendition of the dark red/light blue formula, so inspiring!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

That's too bad about the sweater in #5 - that's one of my favorite outfits - but if you don't feel fab wearing it, then out it should go. Although I prefer the outfit in #3, I also really like the denim biker with the outfit in #4. And that dotty dress, oh that dotty dress is wonderful! Your rendition of Angie's dark red with blue formula is spot on.

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

It's always an inspiration to look through your chic and elegant outfit photos, Sveta. Great example of dark red and light blue in #1, and I'm filing away your smart idea to use your leopard print loafers to sync with the cognac belt.
#2 looks smashing and very on trend.
Ah, there are those wonderful pants again in #3. I love the sheer blouse with the black piping with those pants. Do you wear a belt with them or tuck into the waistband?
#4 Too bad that pretty grey sweater isn't working IRL. But glad you're finding so many used for the plaid jeans. Great shoes too!
I love your mixed blues in #6.

  • viva replied 9 years ago

Sveta, I love your style in all of these pictures. So hard to pick a favorite but if I must, that last outfit is just amazing. Stunning and luxurious.

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

You have such a wonderful style Sveta, all of these are amazing.  The red and blue outfit is smashing, and something about #2 just speaks to me.

  • Missey replied 9 years ago

Your style has been hitting an all time high lately, I said "wow!" with every ensemble you posted!  You are looking glamorous, chic, and naturally effortless in every outfit you have put together.  Wonderful!

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

You have the best sense of style Sveta.  Everything is tip-top with just the right blend of polish and effortlessness.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you ladies for the compliments - they made my day today (and yesterday)!
Colette, I would be happy if my outfit inspires you to wear yiur mesh sweater - and I hope to see it too!
Inge, this blush blouse is from Ann Taylor, not JCrew :-) Adn you are right, these plaid skinnies are amazingly versatile!
Reneeb, unfortunately the silver flats are not the most comfortable shoes. They are OK but not stellar. :-(
Windchime, I wear a black wide belt with pants in #3: otherwise they won't stay in the place. Beacuse of the black colorblocked belt of the pants The only belt I like with them is black.

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Oh what fun, you had another fabulous week Sveta!

LOVE #1, wow. The flats are superb with the outfit, and both the conventional and the rebellious side of me thinks so ^^ Also totally dig that oversized tan studded clutch.

#2 is graphic fabness, the jacket length is great with the longer length top. (Actually, I want to steal every piece in this outfit!) The back looks especially dramatic with the shorter jacket IMO.

Totally adore the pants in #3, your alterations were spot on. A slouchy blush look? Right up my alley. I quite like the gray satchel with this, for some reason it's unexpected but so perfect a pairing. Adding the faded biker jacket somehow makes it look even slouchier, even though normally a jacket adds structure. I like the look best without the jacket personally, but the jacket works nicely and that version looks good too.

The idea of the top in #5 seems good, and the color looks like it'd especially pair well with those jeans, but hey if it's too fussy and feels unfab I'm glad it's out. Also, all of your looks with those jeans are making me extra itchy to pull mine out! But I keep reminding myself I'll have 6+ months to wear them, so I'm being good and enjoying my summer wardrobe while I still can. You're giving me lots of ideas!

Going with the ink top in #6 was clever and looks very trendy to me with the pairing of the light-bordering-pastel blue blazer. That's how I plan to wear my dark colors this fall/winter, with pastels. The nude and natural sandals are a great foil to the dressy skirt.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Aida, I always enjoy your detailed and thoughtful comments and usually go like: " Ah, this is why I like this outfit! Now when Aida explained it is perfectly clear to me!" :-)

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Hah, happy to help :D Your outfits make me happy, too.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Do you iron, Sveta? You look so not rumpled. Lol, says the perplexed innately RATE rachylou :)

It also amazes me how much I like the plaid jeans on you and how much I hated them on myself.

  • Quietgirl replied 9 years ago

love those tuxedo pants! could you send me a PM and tell me more about them? You look GREAT in every pic!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Rachy - lol! I do iron because wrinkled after wash clothing makes me feel unfab. I guess I am not RATE at all.
quietgirl, I bought these tuxedo pants in Long Tall Sally last year. They were staright leg but I sized up and got the hems tapered for this fit. Unfortunately I have not seen anything of this style and fit in the stores :-(
