WIW: black, white and blue in a hurry

This winter continues to present dressing challenges. It was much warmer this week but because we have so much snow which began to melt and then freeze over again (eek!) footwear choice is pretty limited unless one is willing to change shoes in the office...not to mention that chronic running late every morning added its own challenge :-(

pic 1 - 2 Black and white
I was in the mood for a simple black and white theme, I wanted to wear a tux jacket and was looking for a top which is not very formal or the look would be too over the top in my casual office. I decided to go with this studded black tank which is on the casual side because the fabric is tshirt-like cotton. I wore the jeans full length all day  and then decided to cuff them as well and take a picture. Well, I think I like the full length version much better: I don't think the cuffed length does me any favors here...

Studded tank - Winners

I wanted to wear my cobalt moto that day and was limited to Blondo boots because I had to take bus to work. It was not very cold so I galdly wore sheer patterned hose instead of tights! (excuse my red vampire eyes here!)

Polka dot dress - JNY
Cobalt moto jacket - Gap
Blondo boots
Danier silver tote

I was running late this morning so basically grab-and-go basics here.

Striped sweater and black Martin trousers - Banana Republic
Red Munro booties
Danier silver tote

I don't remember if it was intentional or not but this outfit was pretty much by Angie's post. After I left the house I realized that pairing cognac boots and dove grey bag may not be the best color combination here...oh well!

Gap chunky sweater
Kut BF jeans
BP cognac boots
Danier dove satchel

That was my week  - thank you for looking. As usual all comments and suggestions are welcome!
Have a great Sunday!!!!

I like all of these...  a lot.

I agree that I also prefer #1 with the pants at full length.  This is a very stylish and elegant outfit.  Not over the top at all.  Very balanced in terms of the dressy casual vibe you have created.

Love #4, I really think of this look as "very Sveta" and the bag in #5 is soooo cool.

Well, it is a simple joy to peruse this post Sveta. Eye candy but restful, IYKWIM. You have an assured touch so each outfit works, even the two where you have expressed reservations.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Loving your black and white oufit in pic 1. I too much prefer the full length of the pants. You have got me craving a tux jacket!

My next favorite is outfit 2. That jacket has been such a brilliant addition to your wardrobe!

Outfit 3 is casual chic at its best!! I love the touch of burgundy with the black and white. I think I am going to copy that later some day.

Outfit 4 is great too. Loving the chunky knit over the boyfriend jeans! A cognac or animal print bag would have been brilliant, but dove gray doesn't look bad either. Pre YLF I always carried just one bag no matter what color shoes I wore :D .... Oh well moving on! I think all of them are stellar outfits!

Very well done for a rough week Sveta!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

These are all terrific - #1 is my favorite and I also prefer it full length.

  • leopardluxe replied 10 years ago

I really love the bright blue moto jacket over the polka dot dress. Really makes the whole outfit pop and looks fantastic on you. Also, in #5, I rather like the cognac boots with the softer tones of the faded denim, dove gray bag and cream sweater. It looks very casual chic (and comfortable!)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous as always! I love #1. I prefer it with pants full length as well. Love the moto with the dress, too, and how nice to see your knees! But it is getting colder again this week -- back to the tights and trousers, I fear....

Oh the joys. It has been snow boots each day for me since January 1. I only risked my La Canadiennes a few times. Here, the sidewalks and roads are simply too rough for them. Although one night I did wear them out to meet a friend and ended up in a huge puddle -- I am glad to say they did not leak and did not get ruined!!

I love all of these looks, Sveta, and prefer the pants unrolled in #1.   #1 and #3 are so chic.   #4 and #5 are also great and look so comfortable.

  • greenglove replied 10 years ago

My favorites are #3 and #5, the blue is wonderful- you look gorges in all

  • Jules replied 10 years ago

Are you wearing bfs over tall boots? I'm going to have to try that! I actually think the grey and cognac are ok here, maybe because the whole outfit is neutrals?

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Arms are sore - have to stop typing now. But wanted to say that #1 knocks my socks off. And wanted to give you a hug. xo

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

    Ooh I really like #1.

  • replied 10 years ago

You wow us in all iterations Sveta. I think my favourites are 1 and 5. Oh, btw, I prefer your jeans unrolled as in #1 too.

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Love the cobalt and polka dots so much! Also impressed with how pulled-together #4 looks for a running-late outfit.

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Such fab outfits, Sveta. I'm really loveing #4 and wondering why I've never worn my striped sweater with my black pants! I've given up on doing anything but changing out my footwear at work. Between the snow and the cold, there is no room for anything but my snow boots! I'm quite impressed that you dare wear light bottoms ; )

The tux jacket outfit is my fav this week Sveta!

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

These are all so amazing.  I love them all, especially the polka dot dress with the blue jacket, and #5.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I love all of these, but #5 is my fav, because I can copy it almost exactly! A question: Are the cognac boots short or do they come up higher and you have your BF jeans cuffed over them?

And isn't all this snow and ice awful? It's been warmer here too, and Fri. night after it had been raining all day, I went out to run to the market and my entire car was encased in ice!

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Oh Sveta, I adore the look with the cobalt moto. How amazing.  I don't know why, but on you I am always drawn to the looks you do with sharp color pops.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

#1-My favorite of this group.  And you've given me an outfit idea.  I've tried a black blazer with my cream jeans but with a solid top, the sparkle tank really gives this nice texture. I prefer the unrolled look.

#3-Another outfit idea, you are my inspiration this week. :)  I also just broke out my cobalt jeans and paired them with black.  Dots is a great idea.  I have paired my cobalt with a white blazer, have you tried a white blazer with your dot dress yet?

#4-Looks like a great FFBO, and a gal always needs a few of those!

#5-I agree, the dove grey and brown don't work for me, I'd like to see a brown bag instead.

  • Kristin L replied 10 years ago

You look gorgeous in all of them, but I think #3 is my fav.

  • Helena replied 10 years ago

Great outfits! I esp. love the stripes and the last one, as more cas. is right up my alley - but all are fab!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Thank you all for your kind comments, ladies!
I am glad I am not the only one liking the full length more than the cropped one in the first outfit. Angie said that cropped lengths are not the best for pear shaped gals and I think she is right. It is interesting that for BF jeans I do prefer the rolled up look to the full length but for straight leg/ skinnies and even slouchy trousers it is full length for me all the way.

Neel and Lisa, thank you for taking time and commenting in such details on each outfit! I guess I would use a cognac bag in #5 but I don't have one...

Suz, you are right, the winter is coming back. Our sidewalks were like skating rinks today. I so hear you on living in snow boots. This is why my goal for the next winter is to get 2 more pairs of winter-friendly boots which also look good - one short so I can wear them under my slouchy trousers and another pair of tall ones in color other than black and maybe in more dressier style than flat riding boots. My Blondo boots proved very useful in winter. I can wear them up to -15C, they are slip resistant, waterproof and warm. Of course I would not wear them for 2h walk in the woods but they are great for commuting to work and for walks in the city.

Jules and Karie, these cognac boots are knee tall. I wore them with knee high socks and pulled BF jeans on top of them.

Lisa, I don't have a white winter blazer but I did pair this polka dot dres with my white leather moto.

Angie, not your poor wrists again!!!! Please take care of yourself and get well (and many hugs coming right back at you!!!)

Karen, it is interesting about 9shart color pops). I am going to do more of them next week for you ;-)

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

All of these looks are SO  inspirational. I adore #1! They give me hope that I can continue working with copious amounts of black for a little while longer ;-) . I completely understand your desire to avoid the shoe change at work (who knew shoes weighed so much?!) Stylish in the winter with a sloppy slushy ground is indeed a challenge.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

They are all great but 1 and 4 are smashing! You do bl&white soo well, Sveta! love the dress and the last outfit, too! Cobalt is such a good color for you!

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

You had a great week, even with running late and the odd weather.  I think they are all great.  I agree that the pants look better full length rather than cropped in #1.  The cobalt jacket is fab in #2.  I have that same sweater in #3, but haven't worn it this winter because it didn't fit.  It might fit now though, I should try it on again.  Love the lighter colors of outfit #4.  I thought I wouldn't like the cognac and grey together, but it looks surprisingly good.

You look fab in all of these!  I commiserate re: the icy conditions...
