WIW: a week in patterns and white

I have not been too active on the forum lately: life is getting in the way all the time. However I want to keep posting my weekly WIW just to keep myself on my toes :-)
Here I had some experiments and would appreciate your honest opinion on them. I also see that I wore a pattern and white every day - must have been a theme of the week for me!

pic 1 Stripes
I wanted to try this pointelle sweater from JCrew with a flared skirt but I am not sure if it is too long for it? I wore it over a white button down tucked into the skirt to work but also took a picture of this sweater without a shirt underneath. Does it work at all and which way you prefer - layered over the shirt or on its own?

pic 2 Tartan
Pouring rain all day so skinnies tucked into tall boots were in order. I had a nasty jolt in the middle of the day when I went out and was caught in a downpour: I discovered dark blue streaks appeared on my new white jeans! At first I could not figure out what caused them but then I discovered they came from my silver bag when it became wet. Thankfully I was able to get them out in the wash that night so my new white jeans are saved!

I felt like culottes that day and thought that this more cropped and less fluid sweater should work with them. Somehow I like this sweater with culottes much better that with my flared skirts...
Bonus shot of my outerwear that day.

This is where I went copycat on Suz and ordere the same toile sweatshirt as hers. I wanted to wear a red skirt and could not decide what to wear on top until I remembered this sweatshirt. It is quite oversized on me, I guess I could have gone with a size down but it was on a final sale so I am stuck with this size :-) I wore it over a shirt tucked in that day but I ma including pictures with the shirt untucked - what do you think? Works?
Also this is the first time I am wearing my flat black Chelsea booties with a skirt. I thought they are not very skirt friendly with a taller shaft and flat heels but I hope the darker hose just made them flattering enough?

pic 5 Snakeprint
I wanted to wear my Danier snakeprint jacket that day and it really needs a simple support act. Black turtleneck seems the right layer with it but I did not feel dark bottoms this time. As my white skinnies were in the wash after a bag accident I decided to wear my new white slim BF jeans from Gap. I wore them rolled up all day but I think that rolled down version is better even if less friendly - what do you think?
I planned to wear my taupe suede booties with this outfit to echo the taupe in the jacket but unfortunately I woke up to see another snowfall on the ground so I had to go with these Naya booties.

Thank you for looking and I hope you have a great weekend!

Wow Sveta... once again, a week of wows... :).  Love them all, but here are answers to your specific questions.

    1.  I don't think it's too long for it - I think it's JFE.  My preference is for the top underneath, it looks more finished/polished.

    4.  I also prefer this with the top showing underneath, the proportions seem better.  It's that straight line from the sleeve bottom to the sweater bottom thing. And I think the dark hose with the booties work well.

    5.  I think I prefer rolled, but both work.

Glad you were able to save your white jeans!!

1 I would prefer with a shorter sweater. I like 2 and 3 quite a lot. What about a black long sleeved tee under the toile in 4, if that's not too casual for your office? I feel like the outfit needs more dark colors so the booties don't seem out of place. I prefer unrolled in 5.

Such a great week - again! I love all of your outfits. In #1 I really like this sweater with the skirt; with your height it looks great (with my 5.1 I could never pull it off). I actually prefer the option with just the sweater, without the shirt underneath.

As a side note: I got this same skirt at a great sale price at the Rack recently, but just cannot decide if I should keep it or not. It looks SO good on you, with your height, but I think I am just too short for it. I will probably end up returning it, even though it's so beautiful.
    #2 is beyond amazing!
#4 The sweater looks great in this oversized version, it's really perfect! Here I prefer the version with the shirt.
#5 I like both the long and rolled pants.

You look gorgeous, as always! We were Toile twins this week as you will see when I post my week of outfits. I really like this outfit #4/ 5 and think the booties absolutely work on you. I actually like it with the shirt either way. Proportions are really good untucked but it is nice tucked, too.

#3 I understand why you like this sweater better with culottes....I think it is a bit feminine (polka dots) so amping up the masculine just a tiny bit (culottes) gives it a more interesting feel.

#2  A complete WOW outfit and I can't wait until my own LLBean shirt arrives so I can copycat you. Glad you rescued your jeans!

#1 I ordered this sweater, too, and cannot decide if I will keep it. It feels as if it is neither here nor there in length on me and I am generally unsure, although I truly want a white/ ivory/ cream sweater. I'll post for comments later this week. I do like this on you but think it would be better with a pencil or a pair of pants.

Another gorgeous week Sveta! #2 is just amazing - that long vest is a fantastic piece on you. I also love your jacket in #6 - it was made for you.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

    What a fabulous week!
    1. I like the outfit both ways. The version with just the sweater is more clean but I love a popped collar on you.
    2. Perfect for your day. I'm glad that you could save the white jeans. The long vest really makes the outfit special.
    3. The polkadot sweater is wonderful paired with your culottes. An elegant but comfortable look.
    4. The outfit looks great with the dark hose and flat boots. I like it best with the shirt. The whole effect is beautiful and creative.
    5. Stunning, especially with the white BF jeans. I like it best with the jeans rolled as it seems deliberate and modern.

Gosh you carry your clothes beautifully. My favourites this week are #2 and #6......super flattering looks and great colour mixes! You look sensational in these two outfits!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

    Yeah!  Sveta outfits!

1 works -- I'm surprised I like it, since the proportions shouldn't work by their description, but they absolutely do.  Love it!

    2.  This gilliet is one of my favorite of your items -- a great way to make the most of your height.

4/5:  Love the layering with the white shirt -- high fashion silhouette and lots of fun detail.

    6.  Unrolled, I think, is my favorite here.  What a gorgeous jacket.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Smirking smugly at all the gilet love here. (I pushed her to order it, you know). Not that she needed much persuasion....   :)

  • donnat replied 9 years ago

Great outfits, That jacket in 6, you look like a rock star,or a magazine ad.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Sveta, you are looking amazing! My answers are the same as ElizabethP.

I'm so ahoy you saved your white jeans!! And the dotty sweater looks so fab with the culottes. Isn't it funny how that works.

Love everything all around. You always look sharp :)

I am commenting before reading the others because I am often at odds with the gang and don't want to be influenced since you asked for honesty.

#1 I don't think the sweater is too long but would like to see this with booties instead of tall boots to see how it compares.  I do like the look and the white/off white is very dramatic worn close to your face.  Probably the higher contrast with the darker hair that makes it look so fab.

#2 Very nice outfit and I'm glad you rescued the jeans.

#3 This one works for you but I would like to see it with tall boots.  It is perhaps too fashion forward for my conservative approach but I am not sure I "get" the taller booties with longer culottes.  As I said, it is probably my lack of fashion eye and not the look and i suspect when I read the other responses, it will be a much loved look.  :)

#4/5  I prefer the untucked shirt but I am all about figure flattery and to my eye, the proportions untucked are just a touch more flattering.  That may be the pose though and you look great in everything so perhaps that is me projecting your outfit to my shape and it isn't about me. LOL

#5 I love everything about this outfit.  The simplicity of the silhouette, the B&W with another neutral and the darker boot that bookends the hair.  I prefer it slightly with the jeans unrolled but both are fab.

Now to go read the other comments and see how far off the norm I am.

Sveta, I just adore nr 1 with the white shirt underneath! Very stylish, and elegant. 2-and 3 are masters of changing up the silouttes, OMG, you do this so well. As for nr 4-5. The flat boots work well with black sheers for a skir, too. Esp loved the untucked version, as it feels more curent to my eyes on you, but for me I would have probably wore the other version, as I am late to all trends and  seldom can stand layering on a crips button down, at all:-).I like the simple but still  quirky look in the last pictie, too. To me both versions are great! YLF Sveta as always:-).

  • frannieb replied 9 years ago

love all your outfits as always -
1 - i like the sweater you have worn with other things - just not with the skirt. I feel that skirt shines when the waist can be showcased.
I adore outfit 3 and every time you wear you culottes I want to find a pair that would fit. YOu rock culottes like no ones buisness.

  • replied 9 years ago

I am quite intrigued with this lovely JCrew sweater, and have been since you first posted it. I think it looks wonderful that way! I also like your boots and culotte pairing : to me it looks intentional and fashion forward.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I LOVE #2! I don't have a gilet, but you have inspired me to attempt a copy with my sleeveless vest. I think the sweater in #1 works with the skirt. It's a nice change from a more fitted top. I like it with the shirt under. I also like the sweatshirt in #4/5 with the shirt under, and it looks great with the booties. I think it would also look good with sheer hose and light booties. As for #6, I like the jeans both rolled and unrolled - no preference - I would wear them either way depending on what mood I was in.

    Another week of gorgeous outfits!

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

You had a stellar week. I am glad you rescued the jeans. I like the shirt under the sweater. Outfit #2 is my favorites. I am so glad you posted these.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you all for your comments and for your opinions on my questions. Interesting that #1 has a mixed opinions on it - I guess it was not a complete failure then if some like it. I know if is not the most flattering look with a midi skirt but I hoped it was JFE.
Next time I will try the tole sweatshirt with a shirt untucked if you all like it better this way :-)
Dianthus , I find it interesting that you prefer a midi skirt in 1 with the booties and want to see tall boots with culottes. For me culottes play by the same rules as a midi skirt does in terms of proportions. I like them equally with booties and tall boots - I guess my eye got adjusted to a bootie look completely.

Sveta, what a stunning week. I like each and every outfit--simply cannot pick a favorite.
Yes, the sweater works in outfit 1, and I think I like it best with the blouse.
Love the red skirt as you work it and also with the shirt untucked. They look equally good, just different vibes--the first is neat and sleek, the second edgier and more casual looking. The booties are super fab--way more flattering than "just enough."
Your last outfit is fabulous, even with your second-string booties. Can't imagine it looking better.
I'm so glad you saved the jeans--that's a weird thing, to get blue streaks from a silver bag, isn't it?

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

Sveta, this was a week of wonderfully-unique silhouettes, too, in addition to patterns and whites.  I cannot get past #2, which is a WOW for me.  I love this on you.  You look amazing in the Halogen striped skirt and I'm so glad this belongs to you, because you wear it well.

Pairing red with the toile is wonderful and your Chelsea boots is a great combination.  Also, please keep both white jeans in rotation and away from your silver bag, when wet.  :)  The white adds such a fresh and wonderful pop to your wintertime wardrobe, all of ours, in fact, and I will follow your lead.  Loved your entire week.

I am totally mesmerized by #2. WOW. Killer to the power of Killer. (Glad you could save your white jeans). xo
