WIW - the week when I tried Angie's formulas..

...but almost nothing went according to plan or worked like I envisioned it!
pic 1
Another try with a lace midi pencil skirt. It looks pretty boring in the picture, isn't it? At least I have a piece of my front garden to add some interest here!

Still a pretty cool day so I decided to wear my booties once more - who knows, maybe the last time before fall... This is a light grey lurex tank I thrifted last week with the main intention to wear it like a vest. However I wanted to wear one of Angie's formulas that day (dress skirt and denim jacket) and need something light (because the jacket is dark) and sleeveless (because this jacket has tight sleeves). Itried to leave the top un-tucked but it did not look right to me.
Dark wash denim jacket - Calvin Klein
Striped midi skirt - Spanners
Light grey lurex tank - Laura
Animal print booties - David Tate

day 3
Tried another formula that day - column of denim and bright jacket. Things could have not been any worse! It was supposed to be 21C so I thought I should be fine in A/C office in a blazer. Boy, it was hot even in a denim shirt alone. So as a result instead of wearing an outfit on the left I ended up wearing outfit on the left for the whole day - it looked pretty dull, didn't it?
bootcuts - Paige
denim shirt - Banana Republic
green blazer - my mom
grey Trouve oxfords - NAS

day 4
I felt pretty well in this outfit but again it looks kind of blah in the picture. This is my BB shirt, I thought it is OK to wear this length with wide leg trousers - is it? The shirthas a very fine stripes and the light grey and silver lurex tank is a very low contrast with this shirt which I actually liked. Too bad it does not photograph well (at least with my photography skills)!
striped shirt - Brook Brothers

wide leg grey trousers - Long Tall Sally
animal print pumps - Fitzwell

I was ready for hot weather today in my new coral dress - again in one of Angie's formulas! I liked this outfit the best from the whole week. I also put a skinny yellow belt but then I felt that it is too much with the scarf and removed it. I guess flat oxfords with this dress are not for everybody's liking but it felt right to me!
What do you think of this bag? It is Tommy Hilfiger and I have it for more than 5 years now. Last summer I did not use it even a single time.so I thought maybe it is time to retire it? However this morning it felt like the right bag for this outfit. What do you think - keep or toss?
coral lace dress - Banana Republic
white denim jacket - Old Navy
white / yellow oxfords - Hush Puppies
sherbet check tote - TH
white / black silk scarf - boutique in Paris

And a bonus pic #6 - coral dress before and after alterations. The changes may be not very drastic but they make all the difference to me between feeling fab or drab in this dress!

Thanks for looking and as usual any suggestions and feedback are welcome.
Have a great weekend!

The coral dress with the white denim jacket is so pretty and flattering on you!

    Sveta,
You are too hard on yourself! I like all these outfits very well with #5 being a total standout!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

That teal blazer just ROCKS! I love the pattern mixing in #2 as well. A GREAT week!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

    MG, Meredith - thanks!
Kari, that blazer is bright emerald color, not teal - for some reason this color does not photograph well even in natural light.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Oh the coral dress is PERFECT on you now Sveta! Absolutely adorable and I love the pairing with the white jacket and white/yellow oxfords.

I'm also crazy about outfit #2 - I think all of it work so perfectly together! There's something very European about that full skirt and the booties together.

Actually, I really like every single.one.of.these.outfits!!!

Team You're Too Hard On Yourself! I especially love #1. And you are so fortunate to have a seamstress practically on-site to do these genius alterations!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

I like the pencil skirt. The striped top & red shoes stop it from being boring.
I agree the lurex top looks better tucked & I like the skirt with the booties.
It's a shame it was too hot to keep wearing that gorgeous green jacket.
I think outfit 4 looks fine but a slightly longer top would be even better.
The altered coral dress is summer fab.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Sveta, everything is fantastic! Honestly! I agree with the others. You look sensational.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I am so glad you showed the effect of the alterations. Really, the fit makes so much difference! You are lucky to have your mom available to help out with that. The coral dress is superbly flattering!

Love that teal jacket with the denim shirt, too, oh shirt twin! I would not have thought of that combo but I love it.

It is very tough to dress with the weather switches so radically with each day. It makes planning difficult. As usual, you came up with creative combinations!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I need more booties to pair with those skirts! :-)
    MaryK, I am lucky indeed...
Kiwichik, maybe I should reserve that BB shirt for skirts and for layering under dresses...
    Sarah - thanks!
Suz, you know that right proportions and good fit are my biggest obsessions in dressing!

I really enjoyed this collection of outfits! The bright touches (like the emerald blazer, your wonderful red bag, and the yellow oxfords with the colorful tote) really spice up the subtle, neutral-centered ensembles.

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

Honestly, none of your outfits could ever be boring. I think you went for some lower contrast colors than you are used to until coral dress day (fab!) but they still look great. I love #2 with that absolutely incredible skirt and I can imagine the slight sparkle of the tank now that you described it.

  • Irene replied 11 years ago

For some reason I LOVE number 2. It's so not my style, but it works very well!!

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

As usual I love everything, and I agree with Lemonade- number 2 is extra- FAB!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Sveta, I really think you are too hard on yourself. #1 is a very classy look. Gives of a very neutral look beautifully lifted by the red shoes. I think this is a very smart and work appropriate outfit.

#2 is very creative and clever. The boots are a very cool addition to this combination.

#3 looks anything but dull. Swapping out the necklace for something with more color could provide the lift you feel is missing. But otherwise this outfit is quite strikingnin it's simplicity and the denim blue is very flattering on you.

#4 is another great work outfit. You look cool and professional. And that summer dress looks really pretty. I wasn't sure about it when you got it but it looks great.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

I like them all, but personal favorite is #5 (and the outfit that should have been in #3) I LOVE that bag, but it's very girly preppy (my style). I like how you've used it with the dress (which does look great now). Great week for you even if it didn't go as planned, it came out wonderfully.

  • replied 11 years ago

#2 makes me sigh with delight. I love that skirt with the animal-print booties! The wider-leg pants are stunning on statuesque you, and I really like the yellow oxford paired with the coral dress. You rocked the week, lady!

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

I sound like a broken record by now, but I love and admire your creativity. No. 2 is genius in showcasing your ability to remix. I wasn't 100% feeling that skirt...until now. This combination is great, and very you. It's my favorite for the week. No. 3. Not boring. I like the simplicity and the juxtaposition of the pearls and denim is quite nice. That shirt is great on you. No. 5: Again, genius remix. No. 1 and 4 are solid outfits and, as usual, you look lovely in them.

  • marianna replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous! #3 and #5 are my favorites. A great week.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Well, 4 and 5 are my favorites! Love that new dress, especially with the dotty scarf. I also happen to love the column of denim, even without the jacket. For the ones that you feel blah in, I'm wondering if it is because you don't have the usual drama? #1 is nice, but seems very classic for you.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Sveta, I think all of these outfits are fabtastic! The lace dress looks elegant and perfect with the striped top and red shoes; I love that you brought back your orphaned bag with the last outfit--it looks so summery and sherbet-y! I think you look consistently terrific here.

  • replied 11 years ago

I love #1! Not boring at all, stripes and red buckle shoes see to that! #2 is unbelievably fab, because I know how hard that skirt has been to style. Well remember this combo (maybe a change of footwear when it warms up?) because it's a winner!!! Your mom did an amazing job with the coral dress. I love the white denim with it, and would have never thought of that scarf. I like the green ballet flats you had on with it in the *before* photo, too. IKWYM about having to take off a jacket and not being thrilled with an outfit without it. That has happened to me many times. But at least your pieces were fab and well-fitting. the length of the new denim shirt is perfect with pants!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Thanks everyone for your kind comments!
I am a bit relieved that #2 and 4 got some love here: I guess some outfits just don't photograph as well as others. This grey / silver lurex tank looks so much better IRL.
I only wish that BB shirt was 2" longer...:-)
I am not sure if am too hard on myself or maybe my style sense is evolving again and I don't feel satisfied with what I liked before...Rae, you may be right about #1 being too classic for me? Maybe I need different footwear here: pumps and midi pencil maybe too classic together...
I will continue to challenge myself to style midi skirts in ways which feel like me - stay tuned!
