WIW - my humble contribution to Blogger Copycat extravaganza!

I was planning to participate in MaryK's Blogger Copycat challenge this week but circumstances prevented me from doing all 5 outfits: I was sick at home on Tuesday, have a day off tomorrow and leaving for a business trip on Friday morning. Actually maybe I will still do it for the next couple of days select different outfits matching my conditions...
Anyway here are the two outfits I managed so far. Both of them were inspired by Jessica Quirk from http://whatiwore.tumblr.com/page/6
1-2 Polka dot and burgundy
I like the simplicity of this outfit and unexpectedness of burgundy tights with black. I don't have a moto jacket yet so I settled for my brown leather blazer. Also I tried this outfit with black shooties like Jessica did but in the end decided that Iike burgundy booties better here.

3-4 Sparks and denim
I have seen several versions of this outfit on different blogs but I picked up Jessica's again. Although I have worn a version of this outfit in the spring but it was with a dress shirt so denim felt like a change. I had hard time deciding between python and putty booties but python won in the end. My vest is not as sparkly because it is a lurex, not sequins but I think the general idea is here. (waving to Janet who did a very similar look today)

It was really interesting to play along. I picked up images which resonated with my style and elements for which I had in my closet. However reading Suz's post yesterday I suddenly realized that literal outfit copying is not the only way. I am going to do it again with a 'new' approach and see if it can get my creative juices flowing. Thanks for the inspiration, Suz!

These are great, Sveta! I love Jessica Q and find her super-copyable! And especially by you because you are a statuesque beauty like she is! I especially love your super-faithful version of the first outfit!!

MaryK, I find that Jessica's style really resonates with me for some reason. Copyable for sure!
However I think I need to expand my horizons and find more inspiring fashion bloggers...

These are both great outfits, Sveta! You really know your style...I wouldn't think these were copies at all but something you would normally wear. They both look great with your coloring too.

I agree, I think Jessica's style is very relatable...in fact all of my outfits for the challenge are from her blog. I think it's because I have a lot of the pieces (or similar) that she wears. Maybe she will be my "gateway" blog into the world of other fashion blogs!

Oh, and I'm wearing the polka dot and burgundy outfit myself tomorrow!

Natalie, I cannot wait to see your version. I saw that you also selected it for the challenge.
Actually I think this is my problem - I select something I could have worn myself. I definitely need to step out of my comfort zone...

A beautiful dress on you Sveta, and I love the hose and shoe combination.

Interesting comment, Sveta! Your style is so well honed and fits you so well and definitely very inspirational to me. But I see what you mean. You've been here a lot longer, so it makes sense that you tend to want to push yourself and challenge yourself to grow in a different style direction. I have to say, you look like a model or fashion blogger though! I don't think you need to change a thing!

For me it's the opposite. I think the fun of the copycat challenge for me was actually to find stuff that I already had and could wear that was similar to my own style. I'm just happy doing an exact a match as I can (I love matchy matchy), which is why I even try to copy the poses. I'm just happy that I can still participate in the challenge (and at YLF in general) even though I'm pregnant. After one year, I'm still new enough at this that I'm in the "hanging on to my newly discovered style while pregnant" phase, which is my year 2 challenge. Maybe year 3 and beyond will be when I'm ready to push myself in a new style direction!

You are jaw-droppingly gorgeous in the first photo didn't see the clothes till about the 3rd look.

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

I like the grown-up vibe you bring to the looks!

Stunning. Ms Quirk is quite the inspiration. I check her blog daily too:). Svelte you look stunning and #1 surpasses the inspiration.

I'm in love with no.1! I prefer your outfit! Gorgeous

Great interpretation in number one and is that something you would have done on your own?

As for the second outfit, I think the bling in the inspiration is definitely a newer look and something maybe outside your current style... The other pieces are very much you and perfect for your body type....

    Great job for the challenge!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Very interesting, Sveta! Jessica really seems to have a style that appeals to a lot of us on this list; quite a few people are using her posts for inspiration.

I love your interpretations here. I actually prefer your polka dot version to hers! It looks terrific on you and I agree that it works best with the matching booties. And I like your sparkles with denim look, too. It looks easier to wear than the sparkle daytime look that I chose.

I don't think it is wrong to pick a style that easily resonates with yours. You have had a lot on your plate the last months! And even by doing this, we learn.

Lovely copycat looks. I am also a fan of Jessica's blog and style.

  • Rose replied 7 years ago

excellent! I love both outfits, esp. the boots in #1.

    Thanks for the comments, ladies!
Natalie, I think we all have different goals and objectives in how we play with fashion and this is what makes this forum so interesting.
Tracey, yeah, this is something I would wear on my own too - that's why it felt as I was cheating :-) As for the bling in #2 - I have a bit of it in my style: black sequin top, this silver lurex vest, copper metallic sweater... and wear them from time to time. This is how I wore it in September...
Suz, one thing about Jessica is that her style is interesting and very wearable. This is very appealing. And yes, nothing wrong in picking a style similar to your own but hey, you challenged me with your picks!:-)

I like your outfits better! Esp. the first one. (-:

  • Kiwichik replied 7 years ago

    I agree with Jenava.

Interesting observation about picking inspiration that already resonates with your style. I think I do that for most of these challenges, too. If you get satisfaction with the result, or learn something I think it's probably still a success. Of you want to push yourself, I think it's still possible when looking at outfits that already resonate with you: change colors, silhouettes, pull out an orphan... Though of course I am looking forward to seeing your next round of inspired by something other than your style outfits.

Anyway! I think these are both super. I really like the light pants in #2, that is a take on this outfit I haven't really seen.

EDIT: Also wanted to add that Jessica's style also really appeals to me, even though our styles aren't super similar. She was one of the reasons I started doing my style over way back when she was just posting on Flickr ^^

These are flawless! In the first outfit, yours is a little more tonal which I love. As for the second, I think your denim and sparkles pants outfit is better than the original.

  • rae replied 7 years ago

I agree with Natalie - you sure chose your inspirations well!

I'm more inspired by YLFers like you than the fashion bloggers out there... both of these are not just inspired but *inspired*!
