WIW - including another BF jeans attempt!

Sorry I was MIA this week: our home computer caught the virus and my DH was trying to get it back to health. Also the work is crazy now: we were officially asked to work extra 10 hours a week because of tight deadlines - for the next 2 months. I don't have time at work even to look at the site and by the time I get home I am completely exhausted to comment on anything. :-( I will still try to post my weekly WIW as they help me to stay out of style rut though and here is this week's one.
Also sorry for the state of my hair - I have a long overdue appointment for tomorrow!

My attempt on the white summer suit with Melanie Lyne white blazer and Express Editors. I got this black tank at Laura last weekend very marked down ($75 to $12). It is long enough but the embelishment if not attached very well: I wore it once and already some applique pieces are coming off. It is good I got it on sale!

pic 2
Midi skirt with flats! I know it is not for everybody's liking and my mom told me that this skirt is not as flattering on me as the length in #3 but I quite liked it.
Spanners midi skirt via consignment, BB shirt, Born teal flats.

I blame Shannon! I wondered into the mall a couple of weeks ago and how could I pass Cleo store after seeing so many amazing dresses on Shannon? Well, let me tell you that they don't look anything amazing on me. I guess Cleo is not a good brand in dresses for pear-ish bodies. I had to size up from my usual size to get the his fit but the top part was at least 2 sizes too big on me in this dress. I liked the pattern though so I bought it and my mom did her magic.
Cleo dress, CK denim jacket, Chromia bag, Fidji nude pumps.

Another find from my last weekend in the mall: striped shirt from Suzy Shier. I don't usually shop there as the quality is not to my liking but this shirt caught my eye with its almost architectural look. I am returning the NAS houndtooth shirt (too short) and this will be a substitution for a bold graphic white and black shirt.
I hope I don't look like a prisoner in it :-)

pic 5-6

Here is another attempt on BF jeans - less structured this time and I liked this one too. I bought this linen sweater in Madewell during my meeting with Jonesy at NAS. The color is not my best - I think you can call it taupe - but together with the texture of the knit and a sparkle from a silver lurex thread I think it is not soul sucking at me. Bonus here: polka dot knit pattern (I hope you can see it in pic 6)
I thought of wearing my nude wedges for a leg lengthening effect but then I rebelled and decided to go with bold flat oxfords. I have also added my Parisienne polka dot scarf to echo the polka dot pattern in the sweater and animal print belt - just for fun. Does this less structured BF outfit works -what do you think?

Thanks for looking and helping me to to still look presentable even if my work is crazy now!

One is super chic. I adore the blouse in #4, Equipment did a similarly striped blouse last year that I discovered too late and my size was sold out.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

I just want to say how elegant you look in #1! And totally at ease at the same time. Awesome.

  • Echo replied 11 years ago

Sveta, you always look fantastic, but your BF jeans outfit is AMAZING. I absolutely love the combination of the open-weave sweater, the polka dot scarf, the perfect BF jeans and the yellow shoes. You look like a page out of a magazine!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

For a busy week, you look great. I especially love #4 and 5/6. I like the skirt in #2 very much and don't think it's too long.

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

Wow, another great week Sveta! I LOVE you in those white pants! Wow! I'm crazy about your BF jean outfit, too. That sweater is really cool and looks fab with your oxfords and jeans! Are you loving your jeans? They are comfy, aren't they?

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

You look amazing, Sveta. the white suit is stellar, and the boyfriend outfit is outstanding! All the looks are really fresh and flattering. Hope that knowing you look good gives you a little oomph over these next few months!

  • Debbie replied 11 years ago

A great week. You would never know you were having a hectic week.

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

I am beginning to think work stress brings out some of your best outfits!!

I am blown away by #4 -- SO striking, but then again, so is #1! Your dark(er) hair with the bold white and bits of black. FAB! Love the extra sassy hair in #4.

I'm also thinking #3 is very chic and #5-6 is BF with attitude :-) I'd love to see it another time with those nude sandals you mentioned (as I'm still working on my poisoned eye toward oxford flats).

  • christy replied 11 years ago

Great week all around Sveta! But 1, 4, 5 are SUPERB to my eye. Really stunning.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Wow, #4 is so simple and striking, I just love it. I wish I had the lifestyle to wear more white. I recently purged/returned all but one of my white jeans.

I also think #1 and the bf jeans outfit are well-conceived, attractive looks. Actually, they all are top-notch looks and look at you pulling off a midi and flats! Whenever I see your WIWs I totally "get" why tall people are models.

On another note I am impressed that you are working so hard and extra hours yet still find the energy to dress so well. I admit that because I work 6 days/week in the summer, and since my work attire is a uniform, I allow myself to fall into a rut. But that doesn't mean I still don't shop!

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

The new striped shirt is the stellar opposite to the one you have returned in a super fab way!
    Adore the B.F. looks too.

  • Vildy replied 11 years ago

You may be overworked but sure aren't under-inspired.
Look at you in #4. Where is the Sartorialist when ya need him. He really missed an opportunity by not lurking around your house. This is a look I would grab off the internet and save for inspiration.

  • Laurenlaurielala replied 11 years ago

You look lovely! So chic. I really love your dotty scarf and glitzy sweater. That is a fun look. Gorgeous!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Thanks for taking the time to post WIW's. you are such an inspiration and #5 is my favourite. You look so sassy in the open weave shirt and scarf. I also like the blouse from Suzy shier.

  • Midwest Girl replied 11 years ago

Very stylish week. My favorites are 1, 3 & 5--you look great your boyfriend jeans!

  • JennyAnne replied 11 years ago

#1 is so sharp but I am head over heels for the last one. I must get some similar shoes! I'm longing for some cooler days. I'll be getting out a mesh sweater this morning.

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

I love 1, 4, and 5 is killer. Right out of a catalog. I love the texture of the sweater, the leopard belt peeking out, the scarf is so chic, and the shoes are unexpected and fun. The fit of those BFs on you is just right. The blouse in #4 looks like an Equipment version I've been admiring in red stripes.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Taking notes on all of these. A great week, my favorites being 4 and 5. I think the Cleo dress is nice on you (worth your mom's tailoring efforts). I like the midi with flats, but maybe a lower vamped flat would be more Audrey to my eye. Very nice. I can sympathize with the crazy work (but I only worked 9.5 hour days without break)- hang in there.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Thank you all for your kind comments!
Anna, this blouse attracted me in the store right away. I wish it was silk but for this price I can play with it for 1-2 seasons.
Malina, I was a bit afraid to wear #1 to work: what if I look too dressed up? In the end I dared and it was completely OK. There is something about white color which makes look dressy...
Jem, I LOVE those jeans! What amazes me the most is that I ordered them on a whim in one size only (1+ from my regular) not hoping for anything - and the second I tried them on I was smitten. I got it the way I need it from the first try - sheer luck, isn't it?
Sara, I have completely adjusted to flat oxfords. I think they look cool even if not the most leg lengthening. There are times when I choose cool over flattering...not to mentioning comfort factor. Actually in my "poisoned" eye flat oxfords look more interesting than the sky scraping heels! :-)
Denise, I never wore white as much as I do now, it must be Angie's influence. There is more laundry involved, it's for sure - my new washer is a savior here!
Lyn D., this is what I tried to think too! :-) I really like the hound tooth blouse, the fabric drapes beautifully but it has the wrong proportions for me. Finding this shirt with a similar graphic effect the next day after I decided to return the NAS on was like confirmation that I did the right thing and Universe will always provides! :-)
Vildy, this is the highest compliment, thank you!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Sveta, I LOVE the BF jeans outfit! So effortlessly chic, you should be in a resort catalog somewhere. The white suit outfit is also a standout for me.

And I actually love the full midi with flats. It's like what Angie was saying the other day about how it looks so edgy and fashion-forward because it's unexpected and different.

  • Marigold replied 11 years ago

Love your 'hectic' week! One would never know ;). As others, love all the outfits, perfection, but the BF jeans outfit is spectacular. The close-up, straight from a magazine, really. Love!!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Sveta, I LOVE that bf jeans outfit. You look fun, fresh, spunky, modern. And that sweater will take you (layered) into early fall. Great purchases!

I also love every single other outfit here. The black and white outfits are so crisp and striking, and it makes my heart happy that you've been wearing the heck out of those white pants that you laboured to find for so long! When you buy something, you really get your use from it.

It also reminds me of the value of a weekly WIW like yours; I am thinking I'll get a tripod so I can do the same, which may help me keep my style quotient a bit higher.

The Cleo dress problem - yep, I have it, too. I DO own one Cleo dress; it is a bit big in the bust but I was able to deal with that with a simple, small alteration. The others I tried on would all have required much MORE alteration and they did not look as nice on me as the one I bought. So our friend Shannon is very lucky with them, I think. I'm not a pear -- more of an hourglass/rectangle -- but I have a small bust. So maybe that is the issue - they are made for larger bust women? However, yours was worth the alterations!

  • Queen Mum replied 11 years ago

you never disappoint Sveta! Every one of these is great, and what I love most about your style is that you consistently wear a variety of silhouettes keeping things fresh and interesting every day.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

KILLER week! You have great fashion flair, Sveta. I mean that with all my heart.

Is the shirt in #4 not up to your quality standard, and the reason you don't shop at that particular store? While we cannot judge the quality of an item from a photo - that's my favourite outfit!! So simple, unfussy and strong. My best.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

I think the length of the midi was just fine. You look great!

And I agree with the comments on the last outfit. It's wonderful.

Man, you guys are going to convert me to polka dots yet.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Wow, Sveta, you certainly don't look as though your are overworked and overtired. Good grief. I am going to have to pronounce you Queen of the Boyfriends. You certainly know how to put these looks together. And I LOVE #4 and the others, of course.

    GREAT week.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Diana, high five on the flats! Bossy Angie is right as usual... I only wish I had a better pair of ballet flats now: these teal ones look worn already and I don't like how they fit my wider feet. I have really hard time finding ballet flats for myself!
Suz, nice to have you back! Get a tripod, it makes picture taking so much easier. Even though my hubby does not mind taking pictures I find that I feel much more relaxed when I am doing it myself. As for Cleo: I am an hourglass with pearish tendencies but small bust and a narrow rib cage. I almost always need to have sheath dresses altered on top if they are to fit my bottom but never as much as this one: I swear at least 2 full sizes on top. Lucky Shannon to find her go-to dress store - alas it does not work for me :-(
<waving to Kim> it is so nice to have you out of a lurkdom!:-)
Angie, it was inspired by you as usual :-) As for the blouse it is not too bad in quality - sheer chiffon-like polyester fabric which drapes pretty well. However it is not at par with the NAS blouse fabric but it also half the price. It also required a cami but I really like the style and graphic feel of it so it does have a room in my wardrobe now. I also like that I can button the collar all way up and it does not suffocate me (they often do) and it stays up well. All in all I think I am going to have fun with this one!
JR, polka dots are fun as well as the stripes!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Big Bossy Angie thinks that if the quality of the very inexpensive striped shirt lasts for just one season - it was worth the fun of wearing it :)

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

    Aye-aye, Captain Angie! :-)

  • merwoman replied 11 years ago

Steller Sveta- love your style! Hope the extra workload ends soon!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Goodness gracious me Sveta! I couldn't even begin to pick a favourite here. You look fab in every single outfit. I gasped out loud when I saw #4 - so chic and beautiful. And girl....you have got the BF look perfect in that outfit - love the sweater and belt with it. You totally slay me with your style Sveta!

And I accept full responsibility for your Cleo dress! I admit that at times their dresses fit strangely but other ones fit great. This dress was worth altering though Sveta - looks great on you!

  • Krista replied 11 years ago

    Sveta,
These outfits are sensational. I mean it - you knock it out of the park for every single one.

Also, I'm just wondering if you've ever done any modelling? You could, you know! :)

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Wow, your work schedule sounds really rotten!! Man. I hope you're going to get a nice Xmas bonus or something :)!

You had another fab style week! I love the white suit and the midi skirt outfit (agree that it would be great to find another pair of cute flats, but I saw firsthand with you that they are tough to find!). The new Cleo dress looks gorgeous on you, as does the new striped blouse (perfection with the white pants--LOVE the volume over volume), and the new Madewell sweater. It was made to go with your BF jeans!

  • Kate replied 11 years ago

They are all great, but #3, 4 & 5 blew me away. Love the dress; love that striped blouse and the boyfriend look is stellar from top to bottom. Gorgeous sweater; it's so becoming on you. I smile every time I see those white and yellow oxfords, because it was those oxfords and how stylish you looked every time you wore them that encouraged me to buy a pair of oxfords. I finally did just before we went on vacation in late May, and I wore them everywhere and loved them. I recently bought my second pair (the cream colored Joely oxfords by Born) and am loving those too. Thanks Sveta!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Another BF convert! I love it! And the first outfit was so stunning I had to wonder whether you were off to some incredibly elegant event. You look like a model! Love the skirts too.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Thanks! You do know how to make a girl fell better after two weeks of overwork! :-)
Shannon, I also tried on your famous green dress - well, the blue version of it as the green is petite only and it looked hideous on me while you really rock it. It shows that it is actually good that different brands have different fits so we all can find something well fitting to wear.
Krista, ha-ha - I am too ...well curvy and big for modeling - at least 3-4 sizes too big :-) Anyway I am OK to do all my modeling here on YLF - one cannot ask for a better audience! :-)
Kate, you are welcome. I love my oxfords for their comfort and edgy look even if they may be not the most flattering shoes. At first I was afraid that my big feet will look enormous in them but I don't care anymore :-)
Jonesy, are you back from your vacation - I missed you! Well, you are right to call it rotten work and I don't keep my hopes high for any bonuses as it is several departments which have to work overtime... It ended up a bit too hot for that sweater on Friday and I should leave it or later when the weather cools down a bit... but I love my BF jeans and thanks for assuring me that they are worth buying. Have you worn your Madewell jeans yet?
Una, I wonder if my co-workers thought the same thing about the outfit #1...but I don't care! :-) And yes, I am the convert now!
