The first round of my NAS "hits"...

I always prepare for NAS. I love to have Angie's picks to guide me but I feel that I need to do my homework as well. I need to identify what I need and what I want: otherwise NAS would be too overwhelming for me. I did it last year and it helped a lot to avoid expensive mistakes. This year I have added one extra category to my list: what should leave my closet when I keep NAS goodies. I am starting to follow this "one in / one out" rule religiously now to avoid closet overcrowding.
Some of my goals for this season were to add more colors and also add some interesting pieces which can revamp my style. I think this first NAS installment fits this requirement. These all were "wants" from my list:
1 - 3 Pleione striped cross-over top. This is just a purely fun piece. It fits the requirement of adding interest AND color - kill two birds! I tried it with semi-tuck in #1 and untucked in #2-3. I should work with all my jeans and trousers but maybe not the skirts. The blouse in #6 is what left my closet to make room for it. I have this blouse for 2 years, did not wear it much last year and did not wear it even once this summer. I think I am over this style so it goes (to my sister).
2 -3 Vince Camuto loafer I was looking for some fun printed flats and these filled the bill. They are very comfortable and I think I will get a lot of wear out of them. They are replacing my animal print pumps (pic 7) which give me bloody blisters on the balls of my feet :-(
4 -5 Vince Camuto tube skirt. After much agonizing I went with wide striped purely because it is more fun! This skirt is replacing my flared black skirt which is a tad too short and too tight for the moment (#8).
4-5 Munro Robyn booties in cranberry. Comfortable, manageable heel and refined enough for me. I also think they look good - and fun!:-) They are replacing my very old Clarks tan boots which were torn inside (#9)

This is the end of the first installment of my NAS goodies. Stay tuned for more!

Oh, yes!!!  The bold stripes and style of both the blouse and skirt take full advantage of your height and striking looks which make them extra breathtaking.  I especially like 4/5, but thought you must be pleased that the blouse wasn't a tad short here and there because I know that's often a source of frustration for you.

Good for you in your one in/one out discipline!  I'm thinking of switching to thinner hangers as my solution to a filling closet, lol.

  • hedgiehog replied 10 years ago

Wow, I like everything! The top in # 1 looks really good on you. You have the height to pull t off and I really like it with the beige trousers. The animal printed flats are super cute. My girlfriend came over for dinner the other day and had a similar pair on...I was having shoe envy. :-) the cranberry booties are myf havourite....I wish I could wear them. Sadly, I am vertically challenged.

Love your pics, and good call on the things you have purged to make room!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Sharp and sophisticated! Choice pics all around.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Very nice, Sveta. I am so impressed with how clinical you can be about your wardrobe.

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

Perfection! So informative and inspirational to see your thought process behind "one in, one out". Thank you Sveta!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

    Great choices, Sveta!
The bold stripes of both the Pleione blouse and the VC skirt look stunning on you, and both the cranberry booties and the animal print loafers will be terrific accent pieces to work with your wardrobe!

    PPP pays off again!

  • Isis replied 10 years ago

Fantastic choices.  I also really liked reading about your rationale and the pieces these were replacing.  I predict all of these will be workhorses!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Brilliant choices (if I do say so myself....heheheh...let's keep that suspense going...) AND I love to see the items these are replacing. Your thought process is so valuable! I will do the very same when I do my own post on the weekend....

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

How brilliant to plan so well ahead even to choosing what will be replaced! All of your buys look fun and gorgeous on you. You are an inspiration not only for style but for your wardrobe planning and shopping strategy.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Stunning! #1 has me speechless. #8 is so playful and pretty. I see you have a stripe theme going on. It certainly has me thinking about how I use print in my own outfits. Good for you with the one in one out rule! ( I am not ready to commit to that yet ;-) )

  • pastrygirl replied 10 years ago

Love your choices! I also appreciate seeing what they're replacing. Great shopping strategy!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

You have such good taste as well as good judgement!  And I got a great deal of pleasure out of seeing what goes out.  I need to follow your example.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Love all your replacements - more you imo. The x-over top is sensational on you :)

  • deb replied 10 years ago

The #1 blouse look so good on you. I tried it but it did not work for me like it does for you. The rest of your loot is great.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

These new goodies are super!  I can't wait to see them styled.  I just got my red striped blouse today and need to snap some photos to see if it is a keeper for me.  I've never worn tassled loafers, do the tassels move around a lot (ie are they distracting when you walk)?

It's really interesting to see what items are being replaced.  This is truly doing one in/one out and I need to do this with all the new goodies I just picked up from NAS.  I shopped without a specific plan this year (I knew I wanted to overhaul my style but that was as far as I went with planning), so now of course I have too many new goodies and I need to seriously purge a bunch of items or start returning. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Donna, you got it right - top length is my constant bane... and trouser length...and sleeve length...:-(
Hedgiehog, try the booties anyway: you may be pleasantly surprised...
Ceit, Rachy, pil  - thanks for looking!
merwoman, Isis, Joy, pastrygirl, Denise - I hoped that my "one in - one out" report may be helpful to somebody :-)
Parsley - yes, PPP all the way!
Suz, you bet! I also want to put my "hits" before you unveil yours because yours are much more spectacular, aren't they?
Day Vies, I LOVE stripes! It is hard to believe I did not wear them at all just 3 years ago!
Caro, thank you for the confirmation that I am moving in the right direction!
deb, I am sorry the striped top did not work for you :-(
Lisa, I don't usually like tassels but I don't mind those: they do not move at all. Suz did not like the shoes in the online picture but liked them on me.

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

Brilliant choices for you! That top works so well on you, the flats are much more fun than the pumps and the booties are such a great shape and color. Oh and I'm glad to see you went with the wide stripes in the skirt! They should all be great pieces for you and I love that you shared your thought process with us.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

BIG success! Everything functions just as you said - I especially love the Munros on you. They do look refined on your feet, even though I thought they weren't right for Natalie. How different feet can me, right? I also very much love the tube skirt!

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Fun picks times four! So much sheer joy in each one of them I can almost feel it... or maybe because I have been here long enough to think these will all be workhorses for you, now that you are so picky about fabrication.

You show me how a crossover draped top must be worn. I am a little sad about the excess volume of mine now.

One question: will the booties be born with the same sort of things as the tall boots? Or is it that your wardrobe just does better with more booties than boots now?

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

I love everything you bought! I tried those Munro booties but they looked like flowerpots on my skinny ankles, LOL. They look fab on you. And good for you for purging and being disciplined. I just keep adding and adding and it's hard for me to get rid of stuff that I've bought post-YLF. I liked seeing what your new items are replacing too. Great haul!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Wow Sveta!  These are all winners!  Beautiful additions to your wardrobe - and thank you so much for sharing your thought process and the pieces that you purged to make room for these "beauties!"  Can't wait to read/see the next installment!

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

I like the picks but I really appreciate you outling your strategy and closet replacements. This is the true gem here! and I think you so much for sharing it! (Oh, and #3 is inspired a copycat :) great casual look )

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

Sveta, I think you carry the draped blouse like no other! It's stunning on you. The loafers and booties are great additions, too, and seeing what they are replacing clearly states that your wardrobe now is updated very successfully. The pumps are very cool, but if they hurt your feet, then it's no use. The striped tube skirt is also very fun and suits you so well. Thanks for sharing your thought process, it is highly inspirational and educational.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

    WOW- measured and perfect!
I agree that it is very useful to see your purging decisions too.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

What a brilliant post concept - not just your new items but the ones that you will purge! I love your choices and think you have made a great balance between your needs and the fun factor in your choices!

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

Fantastic - great items on their own and great replacements. Sveta, you are such strategic and clever shopper.

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

Wonderful hits! especially the pleoine blouse. Just love its fit on you.

  • Kristin L replied 10 years ago

    Absolutely gorgeous. Great picks!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I'm thrilled you ended up with these NAS purchases. The blouse, booties, slipper flats and skirt are all KILLER. You are a knock out, Sveta. SO GLAD you went for the rugby stripe skirt. It's definitely more fun. xo

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

Perfect! I love the Pleione top and am glad you went for the red. It's an 11/10 with those beige trousers, for sure. Everything else is fab too - happy you went with the wide stripes.

When I'm ready for one in/one out, I'm going to keep this thread in mind. It would be really helpful for keep/return threads to show not only the new piece but also the one the new would be booting. Genius.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Great choices and a wonderful post Sveta! I was so happy to see you went with the red/black shirt - I think it must have been a tough decision. The red will be a wonderful addition.
Like the others I have loved reading the thought process of one in/one out. Very inspiring and I can see how the replacements are right in line with your style.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

These new additions to your wardrobe are so fantastic on you! I love all looks 1 through 5, but I have to say my jaw dropped at 4-5. That outfit is amazing on you. I love the elegance of the top, the playfully feminine skirt, and the gorgeous cranberry booties, which are also very feminine while still a clean look. Thanks for sharing your 1 in-1 out process, too--it's so helpful to see this concept in action!

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

Love all of this but #1, #6 and #8 are extra FAB I think! I esp. love the blouse in #6 for you - you look like a movie star in that and the outfit in #8.

  • Freckles replied 10 years ago

I've so enjoyed your and Suz's NAS story.  These items look spectacular on you Sveta and with that plan in mind you can't go wrong.

  • chewyspaghetti replied 10 years ago

    Great finds!
