Should i purge this jacket - part 2

I have asked your opinion if I should keep or purge my grey denim jacket here. Here is a second chapter.
I have decided to try to style this jacket once more and even browsed Pinterest for inspiration last night. I came away with a grey jacket over a column of white with silver accents.
So this is what I wore today - pic 1. While it was not a disaster but I did not feel overly fab either. By the end of the day (and in a big part thanks to your wise comments) I was leaning towards a purge...but decided to do a little experiment first.
Here I tried 4 other jackets I own with the same outfit and took pictures (pic 2-5) #3 is as casual as the grey one and ##2,4 and 5 are dressier options - but in each of them I felt much better than in the grey. Like by 1000% better!
It is no brainer now - this grey jacket is going...going...gone! It frees space for my new cream Zara jacket (pic 5) which I enjoy wearing much-much more!

I still think this experiment was very useful for me today. Now I have no regrets, no "what ifs", no looking back!
Thank you for all your help - just wanted to share with you my decision which you helped to make!

YES!! I love all your stylings and the grey one can flit off to another home elsewhere!

What a cool experiment! I agree with your conclusion. While your gray jacket is nice enough, it pales in comparison to the other choices. Decision made!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Yup. You are making the right choice. Which I knew all along....  :)

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

Yep. I didn't weigh in on the other thread, but this is a great example. Your gray jacket is perfectly fine, but pales in comparison to the rest.

    Brilliant! And ditto Janet.

Yes!  now you can break up with a clear conscience.  all the other jackets look so much better than the grey.  Did you buy the grey jacket before darkening your hair color?  If so, that may make a difference.

    Thansk for the support!
Joy, this grey jacket was one of the first purchases I made after joining YLF - so yes, before darkening the hair. I still think it is mostly style than the color though...

Great tutorial on how to decide on a purge when you aren't sure what to do...but so clear in comparison!

  • deb replied 9 years ago

    Ha, the decision is made!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Well I'm going to do this the next time I am unsure on whether or not to purge an item. You made the right choice!

Excellent choice--BTW I love the yellow/citron jacket on you--so FAB!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Agree.  You look like you feel more fab in everything else.

Great way to refine decision-making, Sveta.  I may well borrow it!

    Love those keepers on you.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

More thumbs up for the purge. xo

What a great idea!  I often seem to keep things just for "variety".  But when you have variety already, and know the variety is better... bye bye!

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

I agree with your decision to purge, Sveta (and may I just add that I love the outfit with the other four jackets). You gave it a big second chance, and can now let it go with no regrets :-)

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

Great to see your thought process in pics, Sveta. I am also enjoying my Zara cream jacket so much.

  • Glory replied 9 years ago

No regrets - you have done your homework!

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

    Clever Sveta- best decision :)

  • Echo replied 9 years ago

This is the very best way to purge. Like you said, no regrets or what-ifs; you have the photos to prove what works and what pales by comparison. Great decision, and I love all the other options you have much more than the grey!

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

This was so helpful to see. The gray certainly looks fine, but no need for "fine" when you have so many options that are way better than that!

Don't settle for less than the best! Perfect way to decide when you get to the point where all the so so items are gone and you want to move towards the best of the good. A real teaching moment too!
