Round #2 of my NAS "hits"

This round of my NAS purchases is mostly essentials and therefore pretty boring. Three items were from the "needs" list and two fro the "wants".
pic 1-3 NYDJ ponte skinny pants. One of the "needs": I got rid of my Gap leans because they were too tight and needed a pair of ponte skinny pants to wear with tunics and tall boots. Suz assured me they are not too tight :-) I would not wear them with a shorter top like this IRL, just happened to wear one at that time.

pic 4 features 2 items: Halogen red skirt and Only Mine polka dot sweater. Both of them were purely wants! I was looking for a red skirt for years and this one is perfect in color. I also ordered a purple one but it was too muted for my wardrobe but the red was a keeper! My not very comfortable teal lace skirt is going out to make room for this darling (pic 5)
Polka dot sweater was also on my wish list for at least a year just because it is fun! It is also very soft and nice quality and I hope it will work well in my wardrobe. I have sized up to XL: L was fine but I would not be able to layer a shirt under it comfortably and this is how I like to wear sweaters now. This sweater is replacing my brown lurex sweater which is too stretchy for my liking (pic 6)

pic 7-8 Foxcroft white shirt This is purely an essential replacement for me. My current single white shirt has seen better days and is really embarrassing to wear. I was on the hunt for a longer white shirt for ages. This one is not non-iron but pretty crisp and I hope long enough. It is a bit roomy through the body and I am not sure yet if I should tailor it more or not.

pic 9-10 Born combat boots in charcoal to replace my deceased Steve Madden boots (pic 11). This was the need #1! However this is the item I am still not sure about. I love the color (dark bluish grey) and the comfort is great but I am not sure about the look because the toe looks very round and big. True it adds to the comfort level as my toes have a lot of room to move and not squished and I need these boots mostly for heavy walking activities. Even if I hesitated I still got them because I have such hard time to find anything in my size. I decided to keep them for now and see if I get used to the toe shape: if something better comes along I can always return them (they are already gone in my size from Nordstrom). I am also encouraged that Angie likes them and thinks they are good for me so I am hopeful here...

This concludes my NAS haul. As you see I did not get anything very exciting, for that you have to wait for Suz's post! :-)

Glad to see the ponte pants -- I looked at those in the store, but didn't have time to try them.  The skirt and sweater will get good wear 3 seasons of the year in your climate!

I think the boots look terrific.  The color is phenomenal and, while the toe may be round, they fit close to your leg and aren't as "clompy" as many boots of this style.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

I like the boots and vote keep. The Ponte pants look very comfortable.

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

    Good choices all around, Sveta!
All of your items are bound to be workhorses. The red skirt may have been a want more than a need but I bet you will wear it as much as any skirt in your wardrobe. Red IS a neutral, after all! :-)
I like the boots. I think they will take the place of the old ones very nicely. BUT, it seems like you're feeling more drawn to a sleeker style. I don't think that lots of walking and a sleeker style are mutually exclusive if that's what you want. It's too bad that your choices are so limited in your size, though. That always makes it more complicated, doesn't it?

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Blow me away! Love every piece and the way you've styled them here.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Sneaky, Sveta! You already showed us the ponte pants last time, didn't you? And so they are clearly great neutral workhorses!

Love your red skirt. Predicting another workhorse there that will go with most things and to almost any occasion happily.

Sweater is sweet! Just one concern... is there a little pulling at the top of the chest? Or is it the layering or photo angle? I suppose you already tried the next size up, though...

I liked the boots last time and still do, and vote leave the little bit of ease in the shirt. More contemporary.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Wow, everything looks great, Sveta! I 100% agree with Suz that the pants are definitely not too tight. Both the sweater and shirt look like a nice "classic" fit (or whatever the term is for not tailored yet not oversized), but I could see how you might want more tailoring as a matter of personal preference. I think it could go either way.

When I commented on your boots thread, I didn't realize which boots you were replacing - I now think these are a really nice choice, almost exactly what you had before, which clearly saw lots of use in your wardrobe.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

The red skirt is my favourite!
The boots look and perfect for your needs. Might just be a matter of adjusting to the toe-shape.
I like the shirt shape and am not sure about the need for tailoring either.

  • Sylvie replied 10 years ago

I like everything, with the exception of the Foxcroft shirt.  I think it could definitely use some back darts, even if you don't make it super fitted, some of the ease should be taken out.

The Born boots look really good and I like that they fold over.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Great choices! I like the boots - the toes don't bother me at all and I am sensitive to too big and round toes. You look fantastic and I love the thoughtful way you approach your decisions.

  • replied 10 years ago

Great boots -- a good upgrade to your SMs. The other pieces I see being workhorses for you!

  • pastrygirl replied 10 years ago

Those pants look fantastic on you!! I need a pair of ponte pants and had passed them over in my online browsing. But now I'm taking a second look!

  • Laura replied 10 years ago

Sveta, you look stunning in all of it. Glad you made such a good haul this year! Are the boots shiny? They look a little shiny in the photos.

  • DeclawedJaguar replied 10 years ago

Yes, the polka dot sweater! So glad you got it, because it looks great on you. I think it's my favorite. The shirt looks crisp from the front, and a couple of darts in the back will take care of the extra fabric there. The red skirt will be a neutral staple for you, I think. The boots do not look clownish at all. Their toes may be rounded, but they are small enough to still look fairly refined. I really like everything, and think all the items will inject some freshness into your already fab wardrobe!

By the way, did you get to try the Natori briefs?

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Fabulous choices and again, it was fun to see what each piece is replacing. I'm already sorry I didn't get the red skirt and will have to stalk it.
I bought NYDJ black ponte pants last year and mine stretched out some but have been such workhorses that I should have replaced them. Yours don't look too tight at all and will probably get looser.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Wonderful choices on the additions and purges - especially those Madden boots - now they have seen some serious action :)
I love all your choices. I would wear the shirt a few times to see if you want tailoring.
You know how much I love those boots (sigh). The colour, fit - I like the toes. I like your idea of wearing them around a bit in the house to see if the toe look question resolves for you.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

All your choices look great and I like seeing what you're removing from your closet as well. The boots look fairly sleek from my view, which may just be the camera angle.  I was expecting a big clompy toe from your description and was nicely surprised when I opened the photos.

  • replied 10 years ago

Sveta, these are such great hits! Each one is so carefully thought out and I'm impressed with your purchasing discipline. Please keep the boots! Compared to the ones they are replacing, they look super sleek and refined. It all depends on what you put them next to I guess. They are lovely on you and I'm sure they will give your feet many happy miles of comfortable, stylish walking. :)

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Beth Ann, the ponte is pretty good quality on these pants: so far no stretching at all and they feel very substantial.
Deb, Rachy, Lyn D, Shevia, Ceit - thanks!
Parsley, I feel it may be The Year of the Red Skirt :-) I agree on comfort and sleek style not being mutually exclusive...in theory but it is much more difficult to find IRL when your feet are wide in the toe area. :-(
Mani, the sweater is not tight around the chest. I did size up for more ease for layering. What you see maybe because I selected the hottest day of the week to take pictures and could not be bothered to adjust it better over the shirt to make it quicker :-)
Rae, you are right, combat boots did work well for me but my concern was that old  SM boots were a bit sleeker in the toe than the Borns...
Sylvie, you may be right on the shirt but this is a very common problem for me to have too much fabric on the back as my back is very narrow compared to my shoulders. I think it can be easily altered.
Pastrygirl, do give these ponte pants a try, they were Angie's recommendation.
Laura, the boots do have a bit of shine (as in not matte) but I think camera increased it. They are not like patent and not more shiny than a regular leather.
DJ, I did and sadly I had to pass. They felt a bit narrow in the leg opening. However to tell the truth I was so tired and overwhelmed that I did not spend much time assessing them. When I am in the Nordstrom next time I should explore underwear better.
Joy, I don't know if these ponte pants are the same quality as yours from the last year: they felt very thick and did not stretch at all so far. Give them a try. Oh, and please stalk the red skirt: I would be thrilled to be a skirt twin with you!
Glory, I DO know you love the boots: I am so sorry we could not make it work for you :-(

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Great and really smart choices. I am also enjoying the logic on why items were purchased and what items are being replaced.  I am starting to do this with my NAS purchases and it is a great exercise.  Thanks for the inspiration! I adore my lace up booties, they are by Rockport.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Personally, I think you did really well at the NAS, Sveta. Three pairs of shoes! That's gold all on it's own :). An all your items are KILLER. My hat off to you. Well done. xo

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

I love the dotty sweater and the leopard print loafers. These are wonderful interesting pieces and you mix them in a way that only you can. I am really enjoying how you are using the loafers with the stripes in #1.

I am so glad you replaced your boots -- they have been well loved but I understand I had a pair that I loved that much! The gray is a very interesting replacement -- I am loving gray as a neutral.

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

I have a pair of NYDJ pointe pants (not those exact ones) and I duplicated them because I wear them so much.  I love them and they have not stretched at all.  I love those boots.  I hope you keep them and they see as much love as your old one.  :)

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

I like the new boots a lot, and I'm super glad to see that you did get the dotty sweater. Great NAS haul!

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

Great choices Sveta - it all looks really nice in fit and style.

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Love your choices. We are red stripe shirt twins.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Love these pieces for you, Sveta.  The boots are great and your tops appear likely to be happiness inducing workhorses.  I also like those pants and the red skirt is gorgeous. I like the white shirt and while there is a bit of drape to the fit, I think it will work well.   Nicely played!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Looks like Born boots getting more love now than from the fitting room post! :-) I really want to make them work for me so keeping my fingers crossed...
Angie, you are right - 3 pairs! Last NAS it was the one...I don't complain :-)
My purchases may not be spectacular but I hope they are going to be very useful.
    Thank you all!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Fantastic purchases! I love the white shirt and would not alter it (I like mine to fit slightly roomy) - I think it looks like it fits perfectly now. I also vote keep on the boots - they look great, fit great, and fill a need.

And the polka dot sweater, oh the polka dot sweater!! :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Well, you already know what I think of your impeccable judgement!

I hope you will also show the other, not NAS, but NAS related goodies. They are certainly worth their own chapter!!

    Gorgeous choices Sveta
