Potential glasses: installment #2

I have already asked for your help with glasses before and I was going to look for other options. My car troubles took over so I was not able to resume the specs search until today.

Here is a new installment - please tell me if any of those are good options. Unfortunately the colors did not photograph well but I tried to stay away from solid black and went for other dark colors instead.

pic 1: Dark teal / clear  These ones are big but I kind of like them anyway

pic 2: Oakley with turquoise inside and details - the front seems almost black though

pic 3: the same style as in #2 but  dark purple

pic 4: Versace  - medium purple

pic 5: Vogue  - very dark purple. This one has a pearl embelishment at the temple but I think I can live with this kind.

Any of those get your vote or should I keep looking?
Thank you so much for your help!

I vote for #1. I am a big glasses person. I also like #4 if the size of #1 is too much for you. But #1 really looks good on you.

  • Susie replied 9 years ago

I agree with Deb- I like 1 best and also like 4

My advice will depend on your prescription.  I have a "bad" prescription and need to avoid larger frames to not get the dreaded "coke bottle" effect.  If that's not an issue, I like the shape of the 1st.  I like the color of the 3rd, but that's the only one I could really see the color in.  If you don't love any of them, though, keep looking.  I've had good results with some online places if you want to take a cheap plunge with colorful glasses.  If you don't have a bad prescription, you could get a couple pairs for $20 to try out more adventurous styles and then replicate them with a better quality pair.  I have high quality glasses and the cheaper ones.  I'm happy with both but quality ones are worth it if you wear them everyday.

They all look good on you, but before I read the responses above mine, I said, "I like #1 best." My second choice is either #4 or #5 - it's tough to choose between them.

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

I like 2, 3, and 4, although the pic in 4 is not quite straight ahead, so I'm not 100% positive if I would like it as well as 2 and 3. As for the color diff between 2 and 3, I don't see much difference and would probably want to see more pics to decide between the two.

Funny that Deb and Susie both liked 1. That was actually my least favorite.

The Versace's are my favorite because they are not as heavy/dark as the others, and the shape is different and unique. #1 - I like where they are going -- and love the pink arms -- but the front seems too dark/heavy and they are too big for your face. #2 - fit well but they are kind of ...boring ...for what I think of your style. I suppose they are "safe" but not wow. #4 - nice fit and shape, but I think I would prefer a lighter purple.

  • Zibbets replied 9 years ago

Number 3 is my favorite for color and shape.

I also love the shirt you're wearing. Does it have tiny animals on it?? Would love details, if you care to share!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

These are just for reading, correct? Or also for computer?

It is relevant, because a large frame can be annoying for only reading glasses. If it is also for computer, the trouble is not so significant.

I think I prefer the ones I liked best in the earlier thread to any of these...but could be persuaded otherwise by seeing side by side of the "best of" versions.

  • Isabel replied 9 years ago

4 is my favorite, followed closely by 5.    :  )   But the face..oh the face  !!!! PUUUUUURRRRRRRFECT !

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thanks Deb, Karie and Susie for loving the "big ones"! :-)
Laura, this is for reading  / computer glasses so pretty simple lenses.
Zibbets, this is last season Gap boyfriend shirt in a cat pattern.
Shiny, this is interesting because Versace ones seemed the "tamest" to me of the bunch...
Gigi, I also wish I had a straight shot of the Versace pair..:-(

  • Kat replied 9 years ago

I think you look naturally dramatic and chic in glasses, really.  I like your taste and I liked the first round of frames you posted, too.  Of this group, I like #4 -- and great that simple lenses for reading give you lots of leeway.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Another vote for 4. Love the lighter berry shade on you and the shape of the glasses too. I was completely confused in the first set of glasses and I wasn't sure which one I liked! Which is why I did not comment! I like Suz's idea of seeing the best ofs side by side for a final decision.

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

I like 4 too, then 5. 1 is appealing but I don't like it on you as well as the other two.

  • Laura J replied 9 years ago

Sorry, I just saw your other post.  And knowing these can be reading glasses, I just want you to know I absolutely adore the yellow glasses in the other post.  I like the red glasses in the other post, too.  But I have glasses like those and I always like bright colors.  And the last glasses in your other post are fabulous!  I had a hard time seeing the colors in this post, so I like the colorful ones in the other post more.

5 is my favorite but, you have such a great face shape that all compliment you well.

  • Rusty replied 9 years ago

Wow Sveta ! You have a lovely face shape that suits a lots of different styles. Lucky you ! My vote goes for 4. Your eye sits in the right place and they have a refined and classic look to my eye. I think the purple ramps up the style factor in just the right way.

  • ManidipaM replied 9 years ago

of this lot I favour one. reasons being it follows your eyebrows best (the other frames are straighter on top) and the width is actually to my eyes more complementary to your wide set eyes. my second best is the fourth one

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Nr 5 wins all here for me. Feels trendy and it has a slightly uprounded shape which is uplifting and kind of echos the shape of your cheek on the sides. Then nr 4, which echos more the shape of your brows.

Now, so curious what Angie will say.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

I'm a spanner, Sveta. I like #3 best, followed by #1. I might like the shape of the yellow frames on the other thread the best of all though - but in another colour.

I like the Versace the least actually - too delicate, although the shape is lovely on your brow line.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

I like #4 and then #1 because they're friendly looking.

  • dustt replied 9 years ago

I am a fan of #1 on you Sveta - it seems to really open up you face!! - if they are just for reading and the computer - make sure you can see over them if needed -so see distance - overwise you'll be pulling them up and down all day.  That is the reason that given my rather HUGE face I tend for a rectangular set of readers

  • pil replied 9 years ago

I adore #1 on you, Sveta.
Can you give me the style information on the Versaces? My sister is looking for purple glasses and this is one of the shapes we have been looking at.

  • shiny replied 9 years ago

Looking at this set of frames again, the Versace's somehow do something magic to Sveta's cheekbones. Can you see it? Flip from one photo to the next, focusing on the apple of her cheekbone, to see what I mean. I am not sure what it is -- is it frame shape or color or delicate vs thicker -- or how to articulate what I'm seeing.....

Versace's seem to soften her features and really call out her cheekbones in a delightful way, whereas the other frames to me seem too heavy or something, I thought last night it was color, but maybe it is actually the shape, and how they are cutting into the cheekbone, rather than above it....

Now that I look again, I do agree on the yellow frames in the first thread -- that shape -- does the exact same delightful apple cheekbone effect as these Versace's. But I'm also not crazy about the yellow.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you all for your opinions!
Dustt, this is a good point. As I never had glasses before I have no idea how actually wear them. I need to take it into consideration for sure  - thank you.
Suz, I need separate glasses for computer and reading and these are for the computer as this is where I spend most of my work time and where my eyes get really tired. I have a reading prescription as well but I may not get them yet as I can read fine without glasses.
I like the narrow rectangular glasses  but unfortunately most of them are too narrow for my eyes so my upper lids stick out over the frames. Some people think nothing of it but this drives me crazy!
Angie, you made the penny drop - too delicate! Right, I cannot wear anything delicate including glasses and have to remember that! :-) So this means more substantial frame, right?
I am going to the other shop this week to ask if they have those yellow frames in a different color because I really like them too.
Again thank you so much for helping me out, I am afraid installment #3 may be coming as well because I am not in love with any of those (unless the yellow frames come in a good for me color).

  • Missey replied 9 years ago

I love 1 the most, bit I am partial to the lift a cat eye gives to the face.  I think 5 is lovely on you, as well.

  • shiny replied 9 years ago

Sveta, if you need for both reading and computer, what about bifocals/trifocals?

I know I need to bite the bullet and just get trifocals already, as my eye doctor recommended months ago, but I have resisted for  a variety of reasons, that made a lot of sense to me at one time, but not anymore. Like you I could get away reading without glasses but the computer glasses I got a few months back have worked so well, now i need reading glasses... and I also think my longer distance prescription has changed again, because my contacts don't seem right anymore. (By change, I mean *improved* -- I am some bizarre freak of nature with eyesight that is actually improving with age.)

I hate to say this but, as much as I want fashionable trendy frames, my Rx changes so much and has been in such flux, I am better off going cheap with the frames, especially since I rarely wear them out of the house.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Yes, a more substantial frame, Sveta. The shape of the Versace's is very good, but their daintiness looks off to my eye. You are on the right track. xo

  • viva replied 9 years ago

1 and 5 are my favorites. Well, YOU are my favorite. :)
