My unstructured summer dress: keep or toss?

I wore this dress with flat ankle strap sandals to Toronto last weekend and decided that I don't feel fab enough it in so I was thinking about demoting it to a summer loungewear.
However Angie's post about the "flag dress" got me thinking that maybe it still has potential at least for this summer?
I decided to give it another go and wore it today to a farmer market with gold slipper flats and platinum crossbody bag (pic 1)  It is pretty breezy and would be nice on a really hot day (which today was not but I was not freezing in it either - YAY for no A/C on the market!)
I am including other pictures to give a better idea how it looks on me from all angles. Originally it had a belt and a strap on the collar but I removed both. I have left all loops intact because they look fine IMO. I also tried to close the collar (pic 2) and wear it open (pic 5).
What do you think? Keep or demote? I am on the fence now...
Thanks for your help!

Hmmm, I actually rather like it on you Sveta! The slipper flats look good with it.

It looks great Sveta, and right on trend. Very similar to Angie's look. I'd put it in the capsule that needs it the most. It would be fine for work or weekend. If you wore it for "loungwear" and suddenly had to run out, you'd look like a million bucks. :)

I really like it too, Sveta! I think it looks fun and modern, in the same way Angie's dress did (and the accessories make it!).

Like the way you are wearing this--and love the color!!

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

Ooooo...toss it in my direction, please!!!

Love that! Really beautiful color and it looks so good on you. Don't you dare toss. (Unless it is to me :) )

The colour is fantastic on you and the fit is great! Maybe it's just a silhouette you don't wear much? I love the way you styled it but would some slip on sneakers like Vans and a more casual bag give it the "sporty lux" look we're so fond of lately?

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

I love this on you Sveta!! Gorgeous color on you too. Another vote for keep!

  • Jen W replied 9 years ago

Love it! It is a great shape and color on you and your choice of accessories is fab. Of course you have to feel fab too for it to be a keep.

  • Susie replied 9 years ago

I like it! I like the shape and the color is gorgeous.

  • AJ replied 9 years ago

Keep and reserve for the hottest temps since you still appreciate the way it feels. Everyone else will be in tanks and shorts and you will look chic while feeling cool as a cucumber. ;)

  • Parsley replied 9 years ago

Well, if it were mine I would keep it and wear it all the time!
I think it looks gorgeous on you. It's a great color and the style is on trend. What made you not feel good in it?

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

Like Parsley, I wonder what it was that made you not feel so fab in this? It looks pretty great, but you have to feel good in it!

  • Alexandra replied 9 years ago

You look great in it! Based on that, I vote to keep it and wear it. But if you don't feel fabulous in it, then it should go.

  • amiable replied 9 years ago

I love it Sveta!  If it were mine, I'd wear it all the time.  But if you don't feel fab in it, perhaps you should send it to me!  :)

  • replied 9 years ago

Agreed- in fact I think it is a fantastic  rendition of what Angie posted other other day . I really like it buttoned up on you, and find it flattering from every angle. Plus the colour is great on you !   What's wrong here?  :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

From the photos the dress looks amazing on you. I like it both buttoned up and open. It looks a lot like Angie's flag dress. I hope that you keep this for hot days.

  • Hil replied 9 years ago

Definite keep in my opinion! I really like it on you!

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

    I love it.

  • annagybe replied 9 years ago

    I like it, too.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Such a united approval of this dress! Honestly I did not expect it!
I think I did not feel fab in it last weekend because I had to wear a topper over it almost the whole time because I was cold. Maybe this dress is strictly to be worn on its own sans topper? This is how I wore it today for a trial and felt much better in it. Honestly it was Angie's post this week which prompted me to re-assess this dress again...
I like the color and the fact that this is silk. I think I will reserve it for very warm or hot weekends - I won't wear it to work mainly because of the A/C but also because it feels too unstructured and too casual for work.

Thank you all for your opinions! This one is saved from the"demoting" pile!:-)

  • Kara replied 9 years ago

I love it and I can see how it would be much better without a topper.

  • Deb replied 9 years ago

It's a keeper for sure. Fabulous fabric, flattering style, complimentary colour and current. It is loose without being overly oversized and you could belt it with a contrasting belt if that took your fancy. Yes, dresses like this one look best on their own when the weather is warm.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Yes -- this is perfect modern simplicity!  I think you may just "feel" a lack of structure, although the collar and your polished accessories carry this load well.  There's nothing wrong with being dressed at home, either.  This would be a great dress for entertaining casually at home.  Of course, I'd get olive oil all over the silk!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Are you joking? KEEP AND WEAR THE HECK OUT OF IT!!!

It looks absolutely spectacular. It would look awesome with your animal print slipper flats, too. And with gladiator sandals. I adore it on you.

Keep the accessories polished and crisp and Bob is your uncle.

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

    Keep it looks very summery.

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

    YAY! :)

  • BethL replied 9 years ago

I'm glad you're going to keep it, Sveta. It is very reminiscent of Angie's flag dress, and you look gorgeous in it. I particularly like it buttoned up, but it looks great unbuttoned, too. I'm happy you were able to figure out what was bothering you about it and then make a plan for how to wear it.

  • Nicole D replied 9 years ago

Glad you are keeping - it's lovely, I like it best unbuttoned.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

    Keep and wear!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

OK, it is done deal now: I am keeping the dress and even wearing it again tomorrow for mini-golf outing!
Thank you all for setting me straight - and especial thanks to Angie for the inspiration!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    All sorted. xo

  • Runcarla replied 9 years ago

    Ditto!

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

Oh wow, Sveta. This is stunning on you. If I passed you on the street when you were wearing this dress, I'd probably stop and stare; it's that fab. Glad you've figured out how to wear it in a way that feels good to you.

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

Phew, I'm very relieved to hear you are giving this beautiful dress a second chance, Sveta:-)
The colour, style and silhouette are all so stunning on you. You rock this look for sure!

  • serene5866 replied 9 years ago

    I think it's a keeper!!

  • Kari replied 9 years ago

Glad you are keeping it. The color is fresh and flattering; the fabric looks soft and drapes beautiful. You look so effortlessly elegant.

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 9 years ago

I'm glad you're keeping it and wearing it!   It looks fresh and stylish, and you look stunning in it!

  • Angela K replied 9 years ago

I'm glad you decided to keep this dress. It really looks great on you. The color is very flattering and the length is perfect. I hope you enjoy wearing it! :)

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you ladies! I wore it today to play mini-golf with my family and it felt blissfully cool on a hot morning. Actually my body felt cooler where it was covered by the silk in comparison to the arms and legs which were bare. Angie was right - covered with the right style and fabrication is cooler than bare skin!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

You look terrific in it. The unbelting is key. But since it is supposed to be breezy and effortless, if is also key that you could identify fuss- free ways to wear it, with the slip- on shoes and minimal accessories.

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

I'm with others, this is a keeper piece and reminds me of Angie's dresses.  But it does look like a stand alone piece, no layering for this dress.  How fun you already owned a baggy style dress for hot summer days.

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

So bald you are keeping it! Fabulous interstate on of Angie's flag dress.
