JCrew order #3 - and yes, this is not the last :-)

Another JCrew order came and up for the review. This one I am not sure about so can use all help I can get!
pic 1 Embroidered floral tee
The only item I am dead sure about - it goes back. Too short and too stiff front so tucking is not possible.

pic 2   - 4 Merino tunic - the same one Suz got
I am not sure if this is the right size for me or if I need to size down. I loved how it looked on Suz but I am afraid I don't rock it as well :-( Definitely need help with this one.

pic 5-7 Stripe-sleeve merino sweater
This was one of Angie's picks some time ago and I was waiting for it to go on sale - and it did. This is the color I love the most and sporty stripes appeal to me here (rare event). This is XL and I am not sure if it is too big but it was the only size available when I ordered. However it came back in stock in L today so I ordered it again and I will reserve my judgement until I get it - but I think I definitely will keep it, just need to decide which size.

This order was Suz's lemming - she got one in blue. This was the only available color and size on a very good sale so I decided to risk it - and I am not sure. Is it too big? is this very light grey color unflattering on me? Should i send it back? I may need to take pictures in the daylight outside to see the color better. As for the size -- lately I am not sure about it anymor as I have changed...need honest help with this one as well!
That was it. I have a new order on the way with a different size for the lilac merino  sweater and linen amethyst sweater but otherwise this is it for now - I have been bad as is :-(
Thanks for your help, it is priceless as always!

I really love 1 on you. Boo it's going back :( Do you *have* to tuck it? It looks so pretty untucked!

I love the navy tunic and the merino striped sweater too. But I find the grey sweater to big (not loving the color either). The sleeves especially. While the XL in the striped sleeve sweater looks fantastically fluid to me. But let's see the L too :)

  • Jeanie replied 9 years ago

I'm with Neel...I like #1 untucked.  The tunic looks too big and not sure about the shape.  The cashmere sweater is pretty but not sold on this color.  I am so thankful for all your posts.  I have a lot of these items in my shopping cart and love seeing them on real life Sveta and Suz models!

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

I haven't been getting many packages lately, so I am enjoying everyone's K/R posts, because I feel like I have been shopping vicariously!

As for 2, I guess I am on the fence about the size also. My guess is that it will depend on whether you want the fluid fit. I think the next size down will appear more fitted. It might be tough to know for sure without trying the next size down. (Sorry, I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear!)

No. 3 looks fun...glad you're able to try it in the L.

As for 4, I am not a fan of the color either. If the color is accurate on my computer screen, it is a relative of the soul-sucking beige. :( As for the size, I will fall back on what I said about top 2: the difference between sizes may simply be the fitted vs. the fluid fit. Not much help, I know!

Yay, another J.Crew post from Sveta;-)

    OK, here's my two cents:
    - The embroidered floral tee is beautiful, but I agree that it could be a little longer, and if you'd like to be able to tuck it in too, then the stiff fabric might indeed be an issue.
    - I think the tunic looks great on you, Sveta (and FWIW it does seem to fit you the same way it fits Suz). To me this looks like the right size, as I like a fluid fit for this type of tunic style.
    - Love the sporty stripe pullover in these colours! And again, I also love the fluid fit of the XL. But you'll be able to compare sizes soon and see which one you feel best in.
    - Cashmere sweater: I really like the light grey with the light trousers, and to be completely sure about the colour on you perhaps it would be good if we could see it in daylight. From the back, the sleeves do seem a little big?

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

The top in #1 is gorgeous and looks great untucked, but if you want to tuck it and can't, back it goes.
#2 is a tough one - I like the fluid fit but I'd like to see the size down for comparison. This one does look a little big.
The stripe sleeve sweater is stunning, keep, keep, keep! I think this size looks perfect, but I'll be looking for your comparison post when the size down arrives.
To me, the cashmere sweater looks too big, both in the body and in the sleeves. Plus I'm not sold on the color for you. Outdoor pics might show the true color and how it looks on you better than indoor pics.

I think I need to purchase stock in J.Crew, they're doing pretty good this quarter :)  You look fantastic!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Yay!!! I am glad you posted pics so we can weigh in on these.

    1. Lovely top, but totally agree with you. Not long enough to give you fluid looking fit with semi-tuck so not versatile for you. Pity, because it looks really nice. But now you have eyelet tees, so perhaps those fill the "eyelet texture" wardrobe hole. (Yes, folks, on YLF we can have "eyelet texture" wardrobe holes, just like we have "orange blazer" wardrobe holes.)  :)

    2. What are you smoking???? This tunic looks fab on you, and for what it is worth, I think it fits you similarly to how it fits me! Nodding 100% with Inge. It should fit fluidly and it does. It is such a thin knit that a little extra drape is not unflattering at all.

    3. I LOVE this sweater on you. LOVE. (Why didn't I order that one, too??) I actually really like in this size, but since you will be able to compare, let's do that. :)

    4. I really like this sweater and don't think the fit is bad (or no more oversize than my own, which is one size up from my regular size) but to know about colour I would like to see outdoors. Again I am nodding with Inge that it looks great with white. It is too warm to wear at this time of year (for me, anyway) but I was thinking it would be a fantastic early spring piece to bridge and "lighten up" when we still need a lot of warmth. So this colour would fill that function well.

Sveta I LOVE #2-4 on you, it is so beautiful. Does it just feel off or something because it looks fantastic. I also love the striped merino and the cashmere sweaters and think those both look truly lovely on you too. That soft light gray is really nice on you. I understand trying the other size (as you are) just to compare because sometimes it is just a little tweak in size that makes it feel right. I sometimes order L in jcrew when I typically wear a M - and I especially like to do this with sweaters, but last time I tried the linen sweater in pond in a M, it was pretty roomy. I sent it back for other reasons (too sheer to wear without a cami). But it just goes to show that sizing can be inconsistent, even with a company I order from all the time.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

    Thank you ladies!
The problem with #1 is the lack of structure AND fluidity. The embroidered front is still and does not drape. This could have worked if this top had a welt aka sweatshirt or hi-low hem but it does not. The fit looks pretty not-current to my eye and I cannot "save" it with semi-tuck because of the stiffness. It is a pit because it looks pretty but lacks the "currentness" in my eyes.
I will try the tunic again to see if I still feel it is too big today :-)
The cahsmere sweater is a big question. If at least color OR fit were spot on than I oculd have lived with the other being not perfect - but if it lacks in both departments it may be too much for me.

The lilac sweater is a thicker knit and does not drape as well as the tunic or cashmere sweater. Therefore I would like to see a size down to compare which one I like better. However one or another size will be a definite keeper!

Love the striped top!  It has such an interesting and flattering detail.  The only item I'm not sure about is the grey sweater -- I love the light tonal outfit as a whole, but I can't speak to the color with your skin.  It's hard to tell from the photo -- I think the color of the wall is skewing the photo.  I agree that natural light would be best -- at least for you to snap and view yourself, if not to post.

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

I really like all the sweaters on you 2-4, and especially love the 3rd and 4th-the last gray sweater, doesn't look too big to me! Score.

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

I like the blue tunic and sporty stripe-sleeve sweater on you, to my eye they look just fluid enough and you're able to scrunch the sleeves up for structure. The gray sweater looks too big on you, specially when I compare the side view of the sporty sweater with the side view of the gray sweater.
Thanks for "warning" us this is not the last of the J. Crew K/Rs ;)  Looking forward to the next installment!

  • Jules replied 9 years ago

My first thought with the grey sweater is that the colour is not far off from the jacket you just purged - a light, warm-toned grey. It also seems maybe just a little big, and a large amount of a colour you are not sure of IYKWIM. I'm sure you could wear it and "make it work" but will you love it?

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

The cashmere textured frame sweater (pic 8-12) is the one I like... nice soft lines and colour. I feel like you might already have things that cover the spots the others would fill.

  • carambola replied 9 years ago

I like them all, but am curious to see the cashmere in a size down.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

I LOVE the sporty lilac stripe. It fits well on the photo. But get the size down to compare drapes. You must satisfy your curiosity.

I love the silver grey cashmere pullover too. It's stunning with white. It would fit in a smaller size, and I am fine with either size.

Blue cashmere tunic is gorgeous. Better with black bottoms I think. xo

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Well. at least everybody agrees on the lilac stripe sweater (except Rachy). This is the one of the bunch I am the most sure about, especially as I will be getting another size to select the best fit. If this sweater was a thinner knit (like Tippi or cashmere sweater)  this size would be perfect but this knit is thicker as less drapey so I think it is important to get the size right here.
Grey cashmere sweater...it is encouraging that Angie likes the color for me (because it is clearly not my best light neutral) but I feel it is a bit too oversized - and yes, I think it is more oversized than yours is Suz, at least this is what I see in the pictures. I think I am more between M and L now in tops according to JCrew sizing chart so XL is more like 2 sizes up really. Alas - this sweater is completely gone now so no exchange is possible :-(  I need to sleep on this one.
I am on the fence about the blue tunic. It is encouraging that Angie (and everybody else)  likes it too and not finding it too big. Do you think it can be worn with slim or should it work for other styles as well?

  • Kristin L replied 9 years ago

I think all of the sweaters look great on you.

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

Sveta! #1 and #5 looks fabulous on you. I really REALLY like #5 on you, actually, and I think sizing down May be a good idea. Too bad about his you feel about #1 but I totally understand you. Not a fan of fabrics that are stiff in the front either!

#2 and 8 - definitely size down. The drape is a bit off.

Lol it's hilarious you say that you're Suz's lemming lol!

  • Jjsloane replied 9 years ago

I'm no help as you model these all so elegantly I lean toward KEEP KEEP KEEP. You are shrinking before our eyes!

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

I adore the stripe-sleeve sweater on you--the color and style are wonderful for you. Seeing it on you is making me wish I'd ordered it, so I'll enjoy it vicariously.
You rock the blue merino tunic as well as Suz, in my opinion. It's gorgeous on both of you!
Too bad the light grey sweater is gone in your size; it's very striking with your hair and skin.

  • MsMaven replied 9 years ago

Love them all except the last one, although I'm sure you could make it work.  Still, it looks too big to me and just doesn't do it.

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

I like the navy and pink (lilac?) best of this group both for fit and color flattery.  The first one is too short and too stiff for your current style leg of fluid fits and the last one, I think this color washes you out a bit.

  • Elly replied 9 years ago

I love the blue tunic on you Sveta-- plus the shoes-- those are great. Are they new?

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

I LOVE the tunic and the sizing of the grey sweater, but not the color. And I'm not sure I love the color of the stripe one but that could be my iPad. The first one looks nice but if it is stiff that defeats the point!

I have the tunic and I think it runs big - I had to go down to an XS which never happens to me with j crew.
