JCrew loafers: what do you think?

I love JCrew cognac monk strap loafers from Angie's round up and seriously considering to order them if they go on sale. However while browsing other shoes on JCrew site I was strangely attracted to those double zip loafers as well. Am I crazy or are they cool?
They look pretty plain except for the zips and at first I was not sure...but they are growing on me. Now I think they are sleek and streamlined and actually like a low cut pair of booties...
I want a navy pair but it is gone in y size now. I wonder if burgundy pair can be equally versatile for me...
What do you think? Double zip or monk strap for me?

Oh, and JCrew also has Chelsea booties now which come in black and chocolate...another consideration...

Oh tough call! I sort of love the zipped ones, even though I don't love a lot of hardware generally, they give a very minimal vibe. But I love the buckle ones too. Order both and see how they are on your feet!

Oh, I love the sleekness of the double zip loafers and can see them slotting into your wardrobe like they've always been there

I think Emily just tried on the cognac pair and posted a K/R. I'm pretty sure you could make any of them work.

I really like the zippy ones.

The cognac ones ... I suppose they could be made to work, but the zippy ones just look more organically and naturally cool.

I have been eyeing the zipper pair.

I really like the zipper ones. They're sleek and minimal but still have fun details.

I love the cognac ones. They look very fall. They are also on my wish list.

This is hard. Could you order a pair of each to try since walking comfort is important?
Burgundy could be your cognac. Just going by the photos, I like the sleek zippered ones best. I also like the Chelsea booties, so I'm no help.

I have been drooling over the double zip loafers too. I wish they came in cognac.

I like both pairs but personally am more drawn to the buckled pair. I would try both if you can.

But I wish JCrew shoes would go on sale!!!! I'm waiting to order the silver tassel loafers. :(

Well I love just about everything J.Crew, and these are no exception. I like the color of the cognac but prefer the style of the double zip. The booties are great but I shy away from boots with those tabs in the back as they always get caught on my pants.

I think the double zips in burgundy will be very versatile - they'll look fantastic with pink, blue, black, just about any color. Give them a try!

I am biased towards the monk strap, but I really like the double zip loafers, too.  They are much more interesting than the average oxford/loafer/slipper flat!  The burgundy is gorgeous, I think it would make a great neutral shoe.

I like them all. It would come down to comfort for me. I think burgundy would be equally as versatile as well.

    I love them ALL!!!!!

Try them all on. This is the ticket. Comfort is the most important. All are good in the looks department.

I bought the dark blue zipper ones. I have not worn them out of the house yet but they seem comfortable so far. Because the top of the shoe is plain, other than the zippers, they do make my size 8.5 feel look a little long. But I like them anyway. I am always on the hunt for dark blue shoes. And I like zippers as embellishment.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    Try both. xo

I love both zippers and monk straps.  Both are in my default-love styles list.  I just can't resist them when I see them!  I vote try both too.  You never know when a detail in fit/comfort or appearance will make or break a shoe until you have the shoe on your foot.  (That's why I love the Zappos shoe videos!)

Thank you! I definitely want to try all of them but want them to go on sale first: they are pretty expensive. :-( Also with JCrew shipping and return policy just "trying on" gets very expensive too...so I am waiting here - but thank you for the validation that double zip loafers have a potential and I am not crazy! :-)

I'm partial to the chelsea booties and I think they'd look fabulous dressed up or down!

Hmm. Tough call. Very tough call. I'd go for the zips, probably, personally. Edgier, a little less casual.
