Gap cobalt moto arrived!

It took a week and a half for this jacket to get here but it came today!
The color is lovely cobalt on the purple side of it (which is good for me). I still need to see it in the daylight because purple colors may look very different in the artificial light. The fabric is amazing: Italian wool blend 79% wool / 29% nylon. It feels very nice to the touch and less heavy than Ceit's ombre moto. It also does not look to have the same lint problem as fabric is very smooth to the touch. I don't have any biker style jackets in my closet (aside from a denim one which is strictly a summer piece) so it will add variety to my toppers.

So what is left to assess is the fit on me and I would like to get your help with it in case I am blinded by the points above. I have ordered Tall L.
It may have a but too much fabric on the back (my usual fit problem because I have wide shoulders and narrow back) but there is a middle seam
there so I hope it can be easily altered by my wonder mom. However I don't think it
is supposed to be a fitted silhouette, no?
The sleeves are on the longer side for me (surprise!). It would be a perfect length for the outerwear - is it too long for the indoor jacket? I never have this problem of too long sleeves so I am not sure... The zipper on the sleeves does not have an opening so I cannot really turn the cuffs up (I wish I could - maybe it can be altered too?) I can try to get L in Regular to get shorter sleeves but it will be also shorter in length and I think this length is good for me.

What about the epaulettes? Are they too much for my already broad shoulders?

pics 1,3 and 6 show it closed, the rest open.

So what do you think? Worth keeping or not? Please vote!

That color is glorious on you! Just my own uncertain opinions here, but it looks terrific from the front both zipped and unzipped. Sleeves look better scrunched, but even if they are a bit long while down how often are you standing still with your arms to the side? Maybe the sleeves will look better to you in motion? I think you're right about having your mom take the back seam in a bit if she can. But, you are such a fit expert you'll make the right decision for you.

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Wow, it's brilliant on you! Love the color, love the fit. The sleeve length doesn't bother me at all, but I like my sleeves a little on the long side.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I like it on you and I think the color is fantastic. The shoulders don't look too broad with the epaulettes, and the back could be taken in or not, I think either way looks fine.  I do think the sleeves would look better shorter - is the zipper at the end of the sleeves and would prevent them from being able to be taken up? If so, perhaps the sleeves could be taken up from the shoulders, but that is a lot more work.
I'd like to see the regular L for comparison, but I agree it will probably be too short in the length.

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

I think it looks great. I'm not talented in assessing proper fit, but in my opinion, the sleeve length is OK. It may be a tad long, but it's not anything that looks odd to me. I think the epaulettes look OK too.

I also just ordered a Gap Moto jacket! I love love love them, good choice! These jackets were made to fit just perfectly and that is what I love about them. Did you happen to order the wool one? All in all, I love it. It can be dressed up or dressed down and that is the awesome part about it! I would agree with most that the sleeve length is also good!

I think the shoulders look great. Definitely not too wide. And the color and overall look are fantastic.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

That color is just luscious on you! I suck at fitting issues .... So no comments there! That color would sell me even if I had fit issues! :D

  • peacechick replied 10 years ago

I think it looks great and the color is stunning on you. I prefer it unzipped, it looks perfect that way. I don't really feel there is a fit issue. With the sleeves of my moto, I just unzip, fold over (like with BF jeans) and then scrunch up. You could try it?

  • deb replied 10 years ago

Beautiful color on you. I vote keep. I like my sleeves on the long side so they look good to me.

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

I love the jacket on you, Sveta!
The color is beautiful on you, and the fit looks good to me. I don't think the sleeve length is a problem, unless they bother you.
This is a big KEEP in my opinion!

  • Runcarla replied 10 years ago

Oh! Sveta! This is an amazing jacket. Colour is glorious and the fit in the shoulder's is great (and does not look too broad...and I know where you are coming from...I take shoulder pads out, and toppers fit perfectly, including the extra length I need in the arms. But I digress.)

I wonder if a regular might be better? There IS too much fabric in the body, and *surprise* the arms are too long!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Wow, the colour looks spectacular on you. I really love it. I would order the regular to compare -- there is no cost to doing that. Then, decide which is the better fit and consult with your wonderful mother about any needed alterations. I do think the back could be taken in a tad on this one. The epaulettes do not bother me in the least (and you could always leave those for now and remove them easily later if you desired, anyway.) As for the sleeves, they don't look too bad to me (and I'm fussy about too long sleeves, as you know). But wear it around the house for a few hours to be sure about that. I do think it could be easily altered to be a real opening at the zipper if you wanted to turn them back. Or hey, maybe take it to Danier and pretend it is leather so they will do the alteration from the shoulder.  :)

  • Jeanie replied 10 years ago

Wow, this color looks fab on you and the fabric looks divine.  The epaulettes don't seem to make your shoulders look wider...maybe a little higher but that is not a bad thing.  I would have the sleeves shortened a bit.  I vote keep!

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

I vote keep, no doubt about it! The color is amazing on you, and I think the fit is really good. The extra fabric in the back doesn't bother me, you will probably not zip it up a lot anyway. The sleeve length I'll leave for the more competent to comment on.

  • rute replied 10 years ago

Love the color and the fit!
I like the sleeves lenght and the fit on the back.
My mom alters many things to me but she doesn't do leather, as it's difficult to work. I would leave as it is.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

Love the colour, love the style, love the fit and the epaulettes, Sveta. I think this is the right size, but of course comparing it with the regular can't hurt (and don't mind the little bit of extra fabric in the back, nor the longer sleeves).

  • dustt replied 10 years ago

Sveta - swoon!! - I love it on you!! - but yes I would have Mom take in the back just a tad and I'm envious of the sleeve length!! - if it's bothersome I agree with Suz - perhaps a regular is in order?? - I find GAP sleeves to be long enough in most cases in a regular for me and I have Gorilla arms!!!  Can you scrunch the sleeves with those zippers? - I adore the moto on you  - I only wish I could wear one - it looks not right on me for some reason!!

  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago

Love this colour and style on you!  My two cents... try the regular.  I think this one looks great undone, but when it's done up, the extra length seems to "sit" on your hips and bunch up a bit.  A regular might not do this.

  • Robidi replied 10 years ago

The color looks gorgeous on you and I think the fit is great. YLF!

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

This piece gets my yes vote, a great color for you.  I don't think the shoulders look any broader here from the epaulettes than if they weren't there.  I almost didn't notice they were even there!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

I love the color on you Sveta and I quite like the fit. I'm a "serial sleeve scruncher" so to my eye, I prefer the sleeves scrunched. This also solves any length issues.

  • Classically Casual replied 10 years ago

It looks to me like it's already an integral part of your wardrobe.  The fit looks correct & the color is a winner for you.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

    What Suz said!!  :)

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

This is the right size. I like the fit at the back and vote no alterations. My thumbs are up. Looks fabulous, Sveta.

  • Vildy replied 10 years ago

Glad Angie likes the size on you. I think the little bit of back fullness takes away all the toughness a jacket in this style can have. Makes it look less wannabe and more like a ladylike way of pulling things off.

  • Catnip replied 10 years ago

The color is wonderful and the fit of the shoulders is fine.  The back is slightly large, but that doesn't bother me.  The sleeve length is the question, and I guess you have to decide how much the length bothers you.  Do the sleeves stay up when you scrunch them?  If they do, then that problem is solved.  But if not, I would probably try the regular or see if the length can be altered. If neither option works, I would return the jacket.  Sorry for this opinion, because you look great in this jacket.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous! I vote keep as it is. To my eye the slightly loose fit goes better with your fluid pants than a strict fitted look would. The length looks fine with your pants. Will you be using this jacket with dresses and skirts? It looks like the length should work with them too.

  • rebekahphoto replied 10 years ago

looks gorgeous to my eye on you! love the color and the fit is nice.

  • replied 10 years ago

    Looks gorgeous, Sveta! Please
    Keep it!

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

LOVE! Brilliant colour on you and the fit expert has already weighed in!

  • viva replied 10 years ago

I love the color on you and think it looks brilliant as is. Gorgeous!

  • viva replied 10 years ago

Possible inadvertent stealing of the word "brilliant" from merwoman (see above) -- sorry about that. But it is a brilliant jacket on you. :)

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

Chuckling at viva's comment. I'm glad to see this happens to others as well - so many times I've posted, then realized my words/phrasing have already been used...what's with that? :-)

  • DonnaF replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous on you!  Moto sleeves are supposed to hit slightly longer than normal/regular sleeves, so this looks perfect on you.  I'm thinking that a regular size might look skimpy on you, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

Jacket lust! gorgeous color for you and I think this is a style you will wear well

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

Glorious, gorgeous, splendid, stupendous!   I love the fit on you!  You are a total glamazon!

And don't get me started on how wonderful the color is on you - you just glow in this cobalt.    I just realized, you have the same coloring as my mom, and I would love to know more about that - are you considered a winter?    She's always complaining that she can't find colors that suit her complexion.  I would love to pick your brain about your color palette sometime.

I know for sure I am going to show her this thread when I head back home at Christmas.  :)

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

Please keep. Color and fit are amazing on you, Sveta.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Wow, practically universal enthusiastic YLF approval! :-)
Thank you also much for your feedback, it means a lot to me.
Of course if Angie says the fit is right who am I to doubt it anymore? :-)  I am beginning to think that this moto style suppose to have a roomier fit, similar to my denim moto.
As for the sleeves I will ask my mom if she can make an opening between the zipper sides: it would be more useful to me this way as I would be able to wear sleeves unzipped with cuffs turned over. I think they are the same length as Angie's white leather jacket and I always admired it.
I do think that regular size would be too short in the body but I can stop in Gap on my way from work and try on the pink one for size. BTW for those who interested it is not fuchsia but bright hot pink color, practically neon. Nice color but too bright for me for sure!
I am still wowed with the quality of the fabric: I did not expect such quality from Gap for this price. Angie is right; never leave any retail stone unturned! :-)
I think tags are coming off this week!
LBD, I have no idea what is my coloring. I am sure I am no deep winter because while I can wear black it is not my best color. I also cannot wear very bright "neon" brights, they are too strong for me. I thought before that I am Autumn but I am not sure anymore. After I accidently turned into a very dark brunette I can wear stronger colors better than before when my hair was medium brown. I know that my best ever color is purple, basically I can wear any shade of it. I hope you can help your mom to find her colors! Suiting cobalt and dark saturated blues like navy and ink was a big surprise to me as I always thought that blues look bad on me.
Thank you all again for your help, you are the best!!!!

Late to the party, but I'm swooning.  This is absolutely perfect on you!  KEEP!

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

Ooh, Sveta, I love it on you! Beautiful color. I would be trying it myself if I didn't already have a cobalt moto. I hope you keep it!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

What a great winter pick-me-up!  Stunning jacket!  I looked at this online about a month ago,but the site made it look perfectly purple, so I passed.  Now I'm sad!

But I can enjoy it on you!
