Blue shirt showdown - as promised!

If you remember I posted about BR chambray tunic which had a defective placket? Well, I have ordered a replacement in hope that it won't have the problem. It arrived and there is no placket problem with it so definitely I got an oddball the first time.
I also  posted about BR BF shirt in a brighter blue and overall verdict was that it is too big so I promptly ordered a size down, It also arrived and here is the showdown of both shirts for your viewing pleasure :-)
Please ignore the slight grinning cause by the flash - it should not be an issue IRL.
So tell me what you think - which one should I keep or just return both of them? I will keep my opinion with me for now :-)

Oh, tough. I like the lighter blue one a bit better. It seems to fit you in a more flattering way.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

They both look great on you.  One is lighter than the other, obviously, so would have different wardrobe roles.  However, if you keep just one, I prefer the darker blue one with the contrasting buttons.  But that's simply a personal preference.

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

They both look great on you to me.

My question is which fabrication do you think will work best for you -- the more drapy silky one, or the more cotton-y one (assuming there is a slight difference)?

Also the colors are pretty different -- in my wardrobe they would almost fill different roles.  Based on the outfits you are envisioning does a mid-tone blue or a soft pastel blue work better with the overall outfit color combinations?

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

I hope that you keep the brighter blue if it fits in with your wardrobe because the color is wonderful on you. The lighter blue is also a beautiful shirt on you and the color seems more neutral when making outfits.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Oooh. This is tough. I see them as filling quite different roles. The drapey mid blue one reads as a bit more casual in one way (the buttons) but the drape would make it feel elegant in another way. The lighter one is more crisp and summery to me, and would look most flattering at that time of year. Can you keep both?

PS did you see my Zara gilet post? Just in case, added the Find. It looks a bit boxy but just making sure you don't miss it! ;)

  • Zibbets replied 9 years ago

I love the brighter blue! If the grinning is only flash-related, I say definitely keep that one.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

I especially love the darker blue on you, so I pick that one if you can only have one.

  • Echo replied 9 years ago

I very much prefer the brighter, darker blue.

  • Lucy replied 9 years ago

More love for the brighter, bolder one. I like them both, but I think the brighter one is a touch more flattering, and it is a great shade of blue.

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

The boyfriend shirt is a more fluid fit, the tunic a bit more tailored. I actually love them both on you, Sveta, and am now kind of hoping you can keep them both.
    That's not much help, I know -((
ETA: that brighter blue really is a fantastic colour on you.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Lighter blue tunic. I don't like the shirt at all...

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

I like both but if I have to chose I find the darker blue just beautiful on you.

  • replied 9 years ago

Darn, close call. I like them both for the different reasons already mentioned. They both fit in a similar way, with the only main difference being a little more drape at the back on the brighter one. Can you keep both? No help am I??? :)

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 9 years ago

I am going to be of no help at all.  I prefer the fit of the lighter blue from the front but the darker blue from the side and back.  See what I mean?  I think they are both gorgeous and the blues both work for you.  Perhaps it will come down to the shade of blue and which one you are more drawn to for your wardrobe.

ETA:  I almost ordered the darker one after seeing it in the other post but then remembered that I am trying not to shop.  :)

  • Daria replied 9 years ago

Sveta they are both gorgeous. I slightly prefer the fit of the brighter one and the color of the lighter one, so I'm really of no help at all. :)

  • abc replied 9 years ago

    I like the lighter one

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    What did you decide??  :)

  • retailgirl replied 9 years ago

I like the lighter one, both color and fit. But both are nice! A blue shirt is universally flattering and I use them as a neutral.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

This might be the toughest comparison EVER Sveta! They both look great on you so there's no problem there. I have a slight preference for the lighter blue tunic. I find the color incredibly flattering on you and like that it almost has a lilac tinge to it. I think it would look brilliant with many different bottoms. And I prefer the slighter crisp factor to the fabric.

But really you can't go wrong with either - does one tickle your fancy a bit more than the other?

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Tough. Love them both now that size of the brighter one is also sorted, but I say the lighter one goes in trend with the pastels:-).

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

    The brighter  one.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Thank you all for your feedback.
I am leaving for London UK in 4 hours so I will leave the decision making until I come back and have proper time to play with both of them in my closet :-)
Have to run - I am still "working" until that time :-)
Love and hugs - see you soon!

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

I think I like the color of the darker one - the fit is just slightly more "fitted" on the lighter one but the color sways me to the darker.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

I prefer the brighter blue of #1, but the fit and crisp-factor of #2. Can't go wrong either way though, Sveta. So go with the one that is more comfortable. It's all good.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

I'm going to reply before reading other responses.

I like the newer one better. The deeper colour looks AMAZING on you.

ETA just read responses - have a wonderful trip to London :)

  • Susie replied 9 years ago

I prefer the darker one, both the color and the fit. It's lovely on you.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

ENJOY LONDON. Much love to you too.

  • Elle replied 9 years ago

I vote for the darker one - that color looks great on you.  Plus, if you like that fabric more, you are more likely to wear it

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

They both look great and I think the fit looks very similar. So I think it comes down to which blue you prefer and which fabric. Personally I like the darker one; in addition to preferring the color, I like the more visible buttons and the fact that the button placket goes down all the way. I've never liked those half placket shirts.

I'm hamstrung a bit because I don't know what the term "grinning" means in this context---I like the brighter blue shirt better in terms of color and fit, but I would be a bit put off by its sheerness.  If "grinning" means that it's not sheer in real life, but just an odd feature in the photos, then the brighter blue is my preference. What does "grinning" mean as it applies to the first photo?  Thanks!

  • replied 9 years ago

The brighter blue gives you a "lift" that's flattering but they're both good. I agree with Angie, you can't go wrong either way.

  • abc replied 9 years ago

    Have a great trip!!!

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

Laurel, perhaps this blog post will help:
    http://youlookfab.com/2011/07/.....g-garment/

  • Laurel replied 9 years ago

Ahhhh!  Thank you Inge!  Now I "get" it---  I had a hunch it was related to the sheerness, but I wasn't familiar with the term and the specifics.  I'm not a fan of "grinning"---have an eyelet top that is PERFECTION, but only with a light colored bottom.  I wanted to pair it with blue jeans, but its demure quality was totally lost once "grinning" occurred.  Thanks again for the link to the explanation.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

I prefer both the fit and color of the darker blue and I think the buttons add a nice touch. To me it is plenty summery enough. If it truly "grins" a lot more, that would bother me, as I am annoyed by that in general.
If you are trying to wear it with a lot of other colored jackets and pants, the lighter blue may be more neutral, so you might try it with dark jeans if you plan to do that, but with the white the darker blue is stunning.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Both are great!  I prefer the color in #1, but the fit in #2 -- I think the feel of the shirt, and the way it pairs with your travel wardrobe should make the final decision.

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

Sveta, you are now in London and enjoying yourself.  I'm voting for the brighter, darker blue, with the contrasting buttons.  This one is such a beautiful blue on you.  Here's a shout out to Inge who reminded me and Laurel about "grinning" and, yes, I only like grinning on the face, with a big smile.  :)

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I'm sure you're enjoying London by now (how fun!), but I'll throw my two cents in anyway. I would consider keeping both for the reasons mentioned above, but if you're only keeping one I would keep the one that goes better with the other items in your closet. If they both work equally as well, my preference then falls to the darker blue. I like the way that one drapes in the side view.
