Ask Angie: versatility of a white moto vest

As a lot of us on this forum I was in love with this ensemble. Interestingly the same BR vest which was featured in his post was already on its way to me but in white. It came and I am very tempted to keep it. However as it is a pretty expensive piece (even on sale it is $250) I am thinking hard if I really can justify keeping it.
I need to do a photo session soon but for now my question is - how versatile a white moto vest would be (because this is the color I got).
Most likely I would wear it with sleeved tops as I get too cold when my forearms are bare. White out is a no brainer and also wearing it over a column of black but what else? Most of my summer wardrobe is white/cream, light pink, light blue, light grey (bottoms only), navy, a bit of black with some brighter colors like yellow, cobalt and orange.
Angie, would the white moto vest fit into you wardrobe and how would you style it? We have pretty similar style preferences so I hope if it works for you it should work for me :-)
Thanks in advance!:-)

I like the concept of a white sleeveless moto more than a black.  I bought I white faux leather moto and it has become a workhorse it gets worn every week.
I can totally see a white vest in your wardrobe and with the colors you wear.

Following this. I got a cheapie at kohls a season or two ago but purged it bc it was faux and made me sweat and also bc it was cut narrower in the shoulders than the one you show above and I felt a little linebacker-ish in it. I would say as long as you are sold on the fit and know it will work with your existing pieces it could be a nice summer 3rd piece. Looking forward to seeing you style it.

Grr I can't find this on the USA site. The find takes you to the Canadian one. Anyone find it on the USA site?

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

frannieb, I would love to see your outfits with this vest.
abc, I am afraid they are completely gone from US website but we still have them in Canada in all sizes.

I've been totally in love with this one since I first saw it as well Sveta. I'm waiting for a sale that applies to it! Obviously you found one. How's the sizing? Just in case...

Anyhoo, I vote keep, if the fit is good. I think this would become a classic. Can't wait to see your pics.

But if you decide to return... Let me know first... :).

You see! Finally a scenario where you Canadians win! :-)

Keep us posted. I really like this vest a lot. I can see it working for you and your style too.

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

abc, I think it is so expensive in Canadian dollars that not many people buy it :-)
Elizabeth, I got Medium and it fits with a bit of room to spare. I was toying with the idea to try Small as well but decided that it would be shorter... I hope you can catch the sale - if you on BR mailing list they sometimes have there "best customer" targeted promotions which have no exclusions.I will let you know if another one comes along!

I think it will work brilliantly for you, Sveta. It's a gorgeous item. My reservation for myself (besides price) is simply the fact that it is leather. Unless it is super lightweight, it would be too warm for most of my non-air conditioned summer life. But I have to admit I find it tempting anyway and if another sale comes up and you say the quality is great, I might have to try it.

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

Suz, the leather is thinner than our white Danier jacket. I really think I can wear it in summer on not-too-hot days - it would be a perfect 3rd piece last summer.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

What size is your navy vest?
I find I'm 50/50 in two different sizes in BR tops. Another difficulty in ordering it. Although if the timing is right on the visa it wouldnt matter if I had to try two.

Yes, let me know if another promotion with no exclusions comes up, if you remember. thanks! I didn't notice that last one. Or maybe I was just trying to be good...

I tried the vest on yesterday at BR and I think it is fantastic. I've seen you wear a lot of vests, so I think this will fit easily into your wardrobe. The leather is thin and drapey, the lines are simple and clean.

I am also very tempted by the black version but like you I am deterred by the price. But, despite my mostly-black wardrobe, I actually almost prefer the white.

I think this is totally perfect for your style! It's a lot of $$$ so I can see the hesitation. But if you keep it, I really look forward to seeing you wear it :)

Sveta, I really think you'll never regret it! A sleeveless moto is a structured trendy piece- if it's white it's even better! Will  dress up all your casual outfits, and will dress down your professional wear! Will lead you through the chillier summer days, or the brighter ones all year round. I'll keep it, if fit is fab!:-)

Elizabeth, my coated vest is also M and it fits approximately the same in the shoulders and the bust.
Thank you for the enabling ladies! :-)

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 8 years ago

I think it will be an excellent add on piece for the not hot summer days. And white is very versatile. I hope blush is, too, because I ordered a nice price blush moto vest that should appear this week.

Sveta I personally think this would work amazingly well in your wardrobe. You wear vests so well, and this one seems very versatile and perfect for the nice weather. I can't wait to see it on you.

  • Marilyn replied 8 years ago

I've been lusting over this vest as well.  Both colours look amazing.

Sveta, I agree that the high price is the reason this vest is still available in Canada.  It was quite a bit less in the US.  I've picked up entire jackets for less at Danier.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Stunning vest, Sveta. I'm sure it looks killer on you.

Your own outfit creation session will be the test, so that's the most important part. I look forward to seeing it.

To answer your question, I'm not sure whether a white or black vest would be more versatile in my own wardrobe. I would have brought home both and played around in my dressing room to figure it out.

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

Marilyn, that exact thought crossed my mind.  Maybe we should petition Danier? :)

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

    Thank you ladies!
UmmLila, I hope it works for you - beautiful blush vest!
Angie, I hoped for an easy answer :-( OK, outfit creation session is in the books this coming weekend so stay tuned!

Sveta, I'm a little curious about something:  do you not find it tough to keep white leather looking clean?  I see in comments above that both you and Suz have and love a white leather Danier jacket.  I had one for many years too, but rarely wore it for fear of it getting dirty around the cuffs etc.  I found it really a lot of work to keep fresh looking. How do you manage this? A vest would be even worse, I would expect, with the armhole edges looking dirty quickly....

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

I have one as well Lisa... it's by far my most worn leather jacket.  Wearing it today!  And I've had no issue with it whatsoever - I got it two years ago.  They did sell me some stuff to put on it to protect it, but I confess I've been really bad at doing that. I think I did it when it was new, but never since :(.   Really should before the season gets going.  My biggest fear is dye from a coloured handbag rubbing on the shoulder, so I'm very careful about that.  They also told me a Staedler eraser will take dirt off.

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

Lisa, my white Danier jacket is in its 3th season now and it does not look dirty. I wear it everywhere including travel. I spray it with Danier protector once a year and this year before my trip to London I also used Danier conditioner to wipe it out  - it also cleans the leather. It looks clean and I don't thinkl it requires any dry cleaning yet. I do a spot cleaning if required but I did not find it more difficult to keep clean that my darker jackets. If I keep the vest I will follow the same routine.
White leather is definitely easier to keep clean than white wool! :-)

This is a huge yes from me for your style!

  • replied 8 years ago

very interesting - maybe another white leather piece is in my future, as I sure like the look!
