Another K/R: blue sweater

In this WIW post Anna and other said that this light blue color in the dress is very flattering for me so I was looking to add this almost pastel color to my spring wardrobe. This Gap luxlight sweater (also featured in Angie's list) in simply blue attracted my attention in the store and I liked it the best from the available colors. Imagine my delight when it matched exactly to that pale blue in my sweater dress! I really love this color for me which is not a small thing because usually I stay away from pale blues as they do not flatter me.
I also like the feel of this cotton / nylon / silk blend against the skin. I think it should work for summer as well except for very hot days over +28C.
This sweater runs large. I got M and L in Tall - which do you think is better? I think M is very fluid fit and L is oversized.
Also I usually stay away from V-necks because I think they do not flatter me much. This one is not very wide and not deep enough to require a cami. Do you think I can pull it off with my small bust and short hair?

pic 1 : first 2  pics is size M; next 2 pics is size L
pic 2: size M
pic 3: size L

So: is this sweater worth adding to my spring wardrobe and if so which size - L or M?

Thank you!

M! It really is a gorgeous color on you!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Medium! The large seems too large. The color is stunning.

  • columbine(erin) replied 10 years ago

I vote for the medium and love the color on you. The L looks a bit too long in the back.

  • Gaylene replied 10 years ago

I prefer the drape of the large, but I think the tall is a bit long. Maybe an L in a regular? I think the shape of the armhole requires the extra width at the bust to drape without pulling at the sides.

  • rabbit replied 10 years ago

I'm not good at fit, but the Medium looks good to me.  The color is great on you.

  • adorkable replied 10 years ago

I vote for the smaller one - the larger one is REALLY large. I love the color on you!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

I like the length of M and the fit of L. Hah .... I got you all confused now. I think I would go with what Gaylene suggested. I too seem to like the way the L drapes.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

From the photos, I think the M looks a bit like it pulls in the chest area. But that could just be the photos, how does it feel? I prefer the drape of the L in front, but not from the side view. Did you try the L in the not tall size?

That color is gorgeous on you!

Gorgeous colour. I think I like the M best of these two options.

  • leopardluxe replied 10 years ago

Definitely medium. I think the color and style are very flattering on you!

  • Joyce B replied 10 years ago

I think large is too big, go with the medium.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Thank you all for your help.
Gaylene, I will try to order L Regular and compare, thank you for the suggestion. I am also ordering this one. It is a different style but the same gorgeous color. Maybe it will fit better: looks like the current one may not be the best fit for me. Too bad because I really like the hi-lo hem and a very fluid fit...

  • El Cee replied 10 years ago

That color is stunning! I love the high-low hem on you and think that the V-neck is flattering. I also think that, of the two sizes, the medium is a better fit. These sweaters run very large. (I own three of them and had to size down to get the fit I was after.)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

I prefer the M here and the color is absolutely amazing on you!

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

M pls! Great color, lovely fit!:-)

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

I agree the m is best and find the colour wonderful for you. My vote is yes for the spring wardrobe. I do like it with white - very fresh.

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

Very pretty - I think the M works best!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

That soft blue is amazing on you Sveta and I really like the v-neck. I am wondering if it will shrink at all when cleaning? If there is that possibility, I would go with the large. Honestly, I like both sizes on you.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Pretty blue shade, I vote size M, the large has too much bulk with the side view.

Sveta, if you are going to put in another order at Gap, pop one of the drapey T's  in a L into your cart. http://www.gapcanada.ca/browse.....=941613003   I threw one into my my recent order and it was my DH's favorite item of the lot, even though I normally avoid pastels like the plague. The welted bottom adds a nice structure to the drapiness of the top. I liked this one so much I put in another order for the burned out version. The style seems to be selling fast online, so I think I'm not the only one who is smitten by this style.

I think we are about the same size on top, so that's why I think the RL in the Luxlight sweater might work; that size was roomy enough to drape well on my body and there was more than enough length for my long upper torso.  I'm also going to put in a good word for the Gap fluid T's which also have that high-low hem; the rayon fabric has a gorgeous drape and, again, the LR had more than enough length for  me, especially from the back. I did find that opting for the larger size in these drapey items keeps the drape lines more vertical than horizontal, if that makes any sense.

I have a feeling that my more fitted tops won't be getting much play this summer.

I love the color on you and I vote the smaller size.

  • suzanne replied 10 years ago

The color is beautiful on you. As with nearly everyone else, I like the medium on you, as it is just a little bit more fitted. You know, there's not that much of a difference. If we weren't looking for differences we wouldn't notice. If you feel a great deal more comfortable in the larger one, for reasons that aren't obvious to us in photos, then you should just buy it. In time with washing, the garments tend to shrink anyway.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I think I am going to get L Regular and compare.
Gaylene, thank you for the recommendation on the drapey tee. Actually I already had the burnout one in my cart :-) Did you get L Tall or Regular and also which color? Out of the available colors I feel maybe pink but not the rest.

Thank you all again for your opinions, as always they are invaluable! :-)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Ooh - the colour is fantastic and I love the drape. I agree it's wise to try the other size to compare. Jealous of you and Gaylene with that drapey tee. The neckline would be way too loose and low for me, alas. I like the looks of it a lot. I will have to enjoy it vicariously on you.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Suz, I am afraid the drapey tee neckline will be bad for me too but it does not hurt to try, right? I find that narrow v-neck suits me better that the scoop.
This 3/4 sleeve tee has boatneck neckline, I am considering to try it as well: I found that I really lack simple layering pieces now.

Love this blue on you. Maybe your summer 2014 colour?

  • Gaylene replied 10 years ago

I found the LR to be more than long enough. I ordered the Drapey T in the light green with an almost certain feeling I'd be sending it back. Even when I pulled it out of the package, I was dubious because, frankly, it didn't look like anything I'd bother picking up if I was in the store. That's why I was more than a little shocked when my husband's first reaction was "hey, that looks really good ". The combination of drape and structure really worked for me, and the green is a very pale, almost white-ish, shade that actually is quite flattering. The pink one and the burned out one should be here tomorrow, so I'll post an update then.

I'm still slightly amazed because I normally detest pastels and, like Suz, I had serious misgivings about the neckline and sleeves. If you are interested in a drapey T for summer, though, I'd say this one Is definitely worth a try.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Thanks Gaylene. Was this color "soothing sea"? I will try both this one and pink and see if neckline works for me - I am really sensitive to deep and wide ones...
Too bad burned out tee is gone in L, if it comes back I will give it a try.
    Thanks for the recommendation!

  • Gaylene replied 10 years ago

Right--soothing sea ;) weird name but a very pale light green.
